My Sensational Sunday can pretty much be summed up in three chapters…

The Race

I did it! Ran my first 5k since having the baby. I must admit I felt a little out of place and nervous. I went alone. It would have been too much dragging the whole family and the husband just wasn’t into it.

I actually ended up doing better than expected. I stopped to walk three times and still finished under 33 minutes.

The race did spark that running bug in me again. I love events and need to map out a few this summer to keep me going. I’m also considering signing up for the Baltimore Half in October. I’m thinking it will give me something longer to start training for.

After the run I danced around with the baby…

and made everyone breakfast. I had a 2 egg veggie filled omelet and A Less Green More Blue Simple Smoothie.

TOTALY yummy and may be my most favorite breakfast.

The Party

After breakfast we headed to a friends party. It was nice just to hang out for a bit. I had a turkey burger and tried to stick mostly with the fruit and veggies they had out. But I had to indulge in a chocolate chip cupcake. I wish I had the camera with me, it was too pretty.

Why are pretty desserts are so hard to pass up?

The Nap

After the party we crashed. Well the the baby, the husband and I crashed. The Little Guy stayed up playing with the iPad.

I was tired. Up 3 times last night to nurse and I went to bed late after a couple of margaritas with friends. Then I woke up and ran 3 miles.

Yea.. it was a bit much.

A nice 3 hour nap was exactly what I needed. I felt and still feel so refreshed!

After the nap we ATTEMPTED to finished up the laundry but our washing machine is acting up. Now I have TWO appliances giving me trouble. In fear of sounding like an old fart… they just don’t make things the way they used to.

Anyway, we made dinner. Leftover wings, zucchini and burgers on, yup you guessed it, the grill. I have now successfully grilled every day for 8 days! I’m obsessed!

We then hung out until bed time. The husband folded the laundry we did get done and the Little Guy played with the Baby.

They are really starting to interact! It’s nice!

Once we got the kids to bed, the husband and I settled in for our favorite night of TV. I warded off the mindless snacking with a quick bag of homemade 100 calorie popcorn. I was in a munching mood and this was my compromise. Only 2 more days left on the week of snack-less nights challenge for me. It’s helped immensely to snap me out of the auto-munch mode I’ve been in.

OK, must go to bed. The Baby’s been changing up his night time feeding schedule. I’m not sure when he’ll be up tonight.

    congrats on the run! after that, I think you deserve that cupcake! I know my heart melted the first time Alex(2 months) smiled at Nick(2 years). They are so cute!

    great job on the run! I’m on week 4 of C25K. It’s so hot now I may wait until fall for my first race though. I’m seriously considering a half in late November.

    Great job, Roni!! Love the prerace pic which is prompting me to ask: what kind of sports bra are you wearing? Very flattering!

    3. You COULD run the Baltimore Half in October, ORRRRR you could run the Philly Rock n Roll Half in September with me (well, maybe not RIGHT with me… you’re faster than I am, but you get my point ) :-) Post-race concert with Bret Michaels!

    Hey Roni!
    I am loving that you’re getting into the grilling. I have a grill, but am so afraid to use it. My husband is NOT a griller (or cooker or baker, for that matter) so its up to me! I am a big recipe follower, so I am afraid of screwing up the food. I’ve tried to do steak under the broiler, following a recipe line for line, and had it come out like shoe leather, so I am afraid of wasting money on steak that I ruin on the grill. :( Any chance for a blog with healthy grilling tips? Or a grilling how-to video perhaps? I know I’d be grateful for the help!!

    Hi Roni! Congrats on your “Re-Entry!” I am planning to sign up for a Half in October as well. I am just finishing up the C25K program and feel pretty good about what I like to call “my joggling”. A little running and a little walking combined. I just did a 10k in April, but I walked most of it. So I think I’ll be OK as far as distance is concerned. My problem is finding a consistent Half training program. So many options out there! What program will you use to train?

    lol, someone mentioned above that husbands folding laundry is sexy. I remember seeing a ‘porn for women’ book that had photos of men folding laundry or vacuuming etc., made me laugh. Congratulations on: the 5k, setting a new running goal, a snack-less week, choosing mainly healthy options at the party, and a sensational Sunday! Your food photos always make me crave healthy food – went out and bought sugar snap peas the other day just because it looked so good in one of your photos. I’ll have to try spinach in my fruit smoothies next.

    What an amazing Sunday and congrats on your first run post baby! I think you two little guys are going to have lots of fun together!

    I had gotten into the habit of having a large bag of micrwwave popcorn at night while watching TV with hubby. It is way too many points and sodium for me but such a difficult habit to give up! I have been trying to trade it in for a bowl of fruit and sometimes a snack size bag of popcorn. So far so good!

    Hi, congrats on your first post baby race…it is a Good bug to be bitten by!!!
    I really relate to your experience, my boys are about the same age difference…and when they started interacting it was awesome. Now at almost 2, and 6, the younger one is so attached to the older one! He wants him more then me or daddy right now! So there is lots to look forward to!!! They really start to totally love each other…and the older one LOVES that his younger brother loves him….(at least now he does!) :)

    So, I mentioned on facebook that I was scared to register for a real 5k…well, you inspired me to reconsider an official race. I’ve been doing some searching for opportunities in my area and come across several this summer. I’m committed to registering for at least 2…I may have to walk it due to a back injury that is not fully recovered but I’m going to DO IT!!
