Once the kids go to bed all I want to do is eat eat EAT.

Ugh.

I’m really tired and I think that has a lot to do with it. Tonight I stayed with only the PopChips but let me tell you, my brain was running with all the possibilities in the pantry.

The cookies.
The chocolate.
The pretzels.
The graham crackers.

It all just sounds so appealing right now but instead of continuing to mindlessly munch I decided to challenge myself. Anyone want to join me?

Here’s today’s journal and in other news…

Food Notes
Uncle Sams cereal with frozen wild blueberries Aaack STILL want to write a review of this. I’m so behind.
Some cheese and fruit kabobs Long story – working on a recipe for The Laughing Cow. Will link to it when I can.
Quick stir fry wrap with this leftover grilled chicken and some veggies. Lunch was tasty!
bowl of sweet cherries with peach yogurt on top Got hungry a few hours after lunch. I decided to bulk up my regular yogurt cup by adding some fresh fruit.
A small burger on a whole grain english muffin, a sweet potato and some roasted Brussels sprouts cooked on the grill. Dinner was amazing! I’m in grill mode and I LOVE it!
Fresh Strawberries Dessert!
Kid Size frosty It was our after karate treat. :)
popChips with some black bean dip I just can’t NOT snack right now. I swear I’m doing it just to stay awake.
Activity
2 mile run this morning. It was HARD! Ugh.
Water/Vitamins
Could have done better. Took my prenatal at lunch.

Disclosure: Got free samples of Uncle Sams and PopChips at FitBloggin.

Gahhhh we must have the same thing! But i did get almost an hour of exercise today, which really has seemed to help! And i LOVE the video of the guys :)

  2. nikki says:

This is the whole reason I can’t lose weight. I can’t stop eating are night. I wake up thing, man I have to have that, cheese sandwiches are my downfall. The only difference with me is that I am a night person. I work midnights, so on my days off when everyone is asleep its only me and my affair with the bread and chezse. Any ides how to stop this? I have been doing it for years. There isn’t much I can do since everyone in the world is asleep, including my family.

  3. Leanne says:

After you put the kids to bed, if you can, go for a quick walk. Even just 10 minutes. If you’re exercising, you can’t be eating…. and after you exercise, you’re less likely to WANT to eat.

Do you find that you are hungry right after a nursing session? I am struggling with this, as I’m not making very good choices when snacking. I’d rather have some chocolate. ;) But…I’m jumping back on the WW bandwagon tomorrow. I’ve been a follower of your blog for several years, and I just had my second daughter in March! :)

  5. roni says:

    Congrats on the baby!!

I haven’t noticed too much cravings after nursing sessions I really think it’s more about my tired level than anything else.

  6. roni says:

Leanne – GREAT idea. I could and it may just be what I need to clear my head at the end of the day.

  7. Lynne says:

Allison Sweeney (host of Biggest Loser) made a comment somewhere…can’t remember where…that she told Jillian that nighttime eating was her downfall. Jillian told her it was because she was tired and she just needed to go to bed. Everything else will wait.

I’ve tried to remember this but, as a mom? That’s tough. There are things to do! Dishes to wash! Laundry to finish! But it’s still good advice, I think.

  8. Michelle says:

Did you finally get a grill?!

  9. I used to “reward myself” with ridiculous snacks after getting both kids down, back when I had to lay down with the baby to get him to sleep. It was quite a chore, and I’d lay there the whole time thinking of the Oreos in the cupboard. When he finally fell asleep, I’d make a B-line for them. That was before I started my “healthy lifestyle,” before I met you, Roni!

After I started being healthier though, I would lay there and think of a reward that had NOTHING to do with food… no matter what it was. I’d think of a nice relaxing shower, maybe a bath, or even just allow myself to fall asleep with him for awhile instead of rushing out to hang with the husband. So, in the evening, after the kids are in bed, whatever appeals to you that doesn’t have to do with food, you DO IT. Maybe that short walk is the perfect thing, especially since it’s summertime now and it’s all sunny and nice outside.

I ate my way thru nursing my 1st. He did not sleep thru the night until my 2nd was born 2.5 years later. I did not sleep and I ate. After everyone started getting some sleep, I did not feel the need to munch at night. You will conquer it just as you do everything!

  11. Lori says:

Just to clarify I did only nurse my 1st for 15 months. It sort of read that I did it longer, which is wonderful if you choose to but it wasn’t for me.

  12. Tina says:

If only someone could come up with something that would give us INSTANT satisfaction for stress/tiredness like snack food does! I noticed my best friend gives her 1 year old a “num num” to eat anytime she starts to get fussy. I wonder if that’s where it starts? Feeling grumpy – eat a treat. *sigh*

  13. Mandi says:

I am doing it right now…while reading this! UGH!!! Tonight it is fat free peach frozen yogurt…straight from the carton, of course, because I don’t want to dirty another dish when I am only going to have a few spoonfuls, right?! LOL Yeah…RIGHT! I am putting the lid on the frozen yogurt and putting it back in the freezer right now! And…off to bed I go! thanks, again, Roni…for being right on time! :)

  14. roni says:

HA HA I TOTALLY do that!

  15. Mish says:

I find that I nighttime snack for

    1. Exhausted, but I have ‘so much to do and just can’t seem to get it all done, so I need to stay awake a bit longer. but really I don’t want to.’
    2. I had too much gluten throughout the day and it makes it hard for me to fall asleep
    3. I am honestly just thirsty
    4. I’m doing too much

But I totally get it. Try frozen blue berries w/ milk splash over the top of them with whatever sweetener you use. It kicks the sweet tooth/tired monster and it’s healthy.

  16. Ronni says:

@julie, I am nursing right now and I am the same way. I get ravenous after he eats! It takes all I have to eat some fruit or carrot sticks instead of junk.

  17. Nadj says:

Oh my gosh this is me, i totally do this…. but for the past few days i didnt and vola i felt so much better the next day….. Oh why only us mums have to go through this???:(
