One Mom’s Journey from Fat to Skinny to Confident

FOOD JOURNALS

Still Decompressing Plus a New Food Journal.

24 Comments 1618 views

I’ve been spending a lit of time on twitter and reading all the FitBloggin recaps. Oh! and the pictures were posted! It’s been nice to just be.

I did write the second part of, I’m a Crazy Breastfeeding Momma!

Other than that I experimented with a new food journal. Twitter is just not working for me anymore. Too much to mange with multiple accounts. Instead I plan on keeping it offline and then just posting it here nightly.

Here’s what I came up with… Oh! and this is what I ate today…

Food Notes
Dark Chocolate Raspberry Oatmeal I may make this every day! Such a treat.
Nibbled the husband’s Dorritos. Stopped myself after 3-4. I was just eating them becuase they were there. The few I had where tasty.
Leftover Whole Wheat Pasta with Rainbow Chard and White Beans This was the end of it. I love having leftovers to grab for lunch!
Attune Foods Dark Chocolate Bar Cause I saw it and I wanted it. lol I have to admit, these things are better then I thought they be and this one is only 80 cals!
Carrots & Popchips with Garlic Hummus I was hungry and I wanted to up my veggies so I peeled about 5 carrots and hit the hummus. The PopChips were a total add on becuase I didn’t want to stop dipping! Note: Hummus now gone.
Ginger Snap Larabar SO GOOD! I was hungry and I wanted something to hold me over until dinner.
Taco Night! I made them with beef and bulked up with veggies and beans. So good!
Banana soft serve Was a little hungry before bed. This totally hit the spot. I added some frozen blueberries at the end. SO GOOD!
Activity

Ran 2 miles today! It was tough. I lost a lost of stamina. Had to stop and walk a buch of times but I felt great afterwards! Posted the Nike+ chart on Facebook.

I also walked Little Guy to the park after school.

Water/Vitamins
Did "ok" in the water department. It’s all I really drink but I wasn’t married to it today. Just a few glasses, mostly with meals and after the run. Took a multi-Vit mid day when it popped into my head.

What do you think? Do you keep a food journal? If so, what works for you?

Disclosure: Got free samples of Attunebar, PopChips and Larabar at FitBloggin.

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

I think your food journal is great! I keep one, and it really does help me to write down and see exactly how much I’m eating and even think about why I’m eating it.

Good job on stopping on the Doritos! Those things are addicting but so not worth the points IMO.

Trust in muscle memory. Meaning, you’ll recover your stamina way faster than if you were training for the first time!! There is biology to it but it’s boooooring LOL

I like your new journal format – especially the notes. I started eating the attune bars in the last couple of months and was equally suprised by the taste – I look forward to my occasional treat. I currently don’t keep a food journal, but I have email check-in accountability weight loss friends that I meal plan and log with. So I guess that counts.

I try to keep an online food journal (i.e. sparkpeople) but i imagine i would do worlds better if i could make one i like and be able to print it off and write on it.

I should keep a food journal. I did not while losing and in hindsight, should have.

Did you continue keeping a food journal while maintaining?

I did for quite some time, a few years, but then it faded away. I only revisit it when I’m feeling a bit out of control. Now that I’m trying to lose the baby weight I’m trying to be diligent with it again.

I keep a record of my food in myfitnesspal – but I like the idea of keeping notes as well. I love looking back at my old food journals too – is that weird?

    I don’t think so! I do it too. :)

I like your new food journal, I’m going to give it a try. I have not been keeping a food journal since stopping ww. I havent found the right balance yet. how do you stay within a certain amount of calories/pts if you dont count anymore?

I just don’t worry about it and eat sensibly. Took me a long time to get to this point but I… wait for it… TRUST myself.

I’m not doing this to hit some ideal body figure or fat percentage. For me it’s just about balance and eating consciously.

Congratulation’s! that’s such a wonderful accomplishment…being able to trust your self.
Thank you for being such an inspiration!

I think the most successful long term journal for me was tracking on Livestrong, but lately I’ve just been scribbling them down in a notebook. It helps that I’m purposely not counting calories, but instead taking a good look at my eating habits throughout the day.

I have to tell you Roni, ever since the Ditch the Diet panel, I have been trying to related my feelings to food. I figured until I can learn more about intuitive eating, I can try to listen to my body and make better food choices. It’s been liberating!

My food journal I am keeping in this app called Springpad. I set up a notebook for it and add a “post it note” for each days food journal. No PointsPlus values though I still check them for new foods, just so I don’t over do it.

I weighed myself this morning and I am downs 3 lbs since my weigh-in before FitBloggin. Tomorrow is my official WW weigh-in and I think I’ll only stick to getting on the scale once a week. I have been doing daily weigh-ins and I don’t think they are for me. We’ll see still trying to figure out what to do with what I learned.

I’m so grateful for the inspirations I received from the conference. :)

Why no points added? Much easier to read format.

I keep a journal. I don’t trust myself! I am forgetful and think I would eat too many points.

I don’t count anymore. I out grew it with a lot of practice.

I trust myself to make good choices and I would probably maintain where I am, but I still have about 15 more to lose and I don’t know how to do that while trusting myself

I’ve really lost my WW mojo and haven’t tracked in a few weeks. I know I lose weight when I track but I just can’t/won’t do it. I need a kick in the butt.

I have been using myfitnesspal. It has really been helping keep me on track. For whatever reason, logging on is a lot easier for me than writing down…=D

LOVE the journal. I track all my food, but don’t make notes. I like that…. Congrats on what I’m reading was a wonderful conference. Very much enjoying the recaps. Have a great day Roni!

I like that you have added some notes on what you are feeling – makes it more creative and probably more insightful for you as well. I’m a firm believer that there is always something new to learn about ourselves if we are open to it.

I want to try the Larabars, but there aren’t any stores around my area that sell them ( that I know of). I am considering ordering a box from Amazon, but I don’t want to waste the money on a whole box if I am not sure I’ll even like them. And there are so many flavors, I am not sure which one to get. Are they really that good? And what flavors would you recommend?

That explains it. I sure hope I outgrow it with practice, it would make it easier. Does that mean you don’t have to weight and measure your portions anymore?

I am thankful you made the menu similar to what you used to do, Agreed “good job”.

My kitchen scale is my best friend. :) Helps me stick to serving sizes. :

Danlle – I really do like them. I’m planning an official post.
In my opinion any flavor with choc and or PB in it ROCKS! I also like the apple pie and the blueberru muffin. My 5 year old likes the choc brownie and blueberry muffin the best.
