I’m a big believer in food journaling but I think the key is to figure out what works for you so you can stick to it long term without it feeling like work. I started with pen and paper, moved to email then started keeping it online in other ways. For a more detailed history of my food journaling check out this podcast. I give a bit of my history and thoughts about it.

As I said in yesterday’s post, I just haven’t found my food journaling groove yet. I have no fear I’ll figure out a system that works for me. I just need to try a few ways on for size. Today I went with a simple photo approach using my phone and twitter account.

I decided to see how hard it would be to simply snap a photo of what I eat and shoot it out to the @RonisFood twitter account. Here’s the photos I shot today..

Breakfast was a 2 egg omelet with onion, peppers, spinach and bacon bits. And of course a grapefruit on the side. :)

Lunch was an Overstuffed Cheesy Taco Wrap with a side of carrot sticks.

While working this afternoon I grabbed a yogurt.

And then when little guy came home from school we each had a granola bar.

We went out to dinner and of COURSE I forgot my phone. I ended up having the special which was a seafood risotto dish with butternut squash and marinara sauce. It was so pretty I wish I could show you. :(

Oh! I did totally stay away from the bread basket and I was really proud of myself for that. I was overindulging a bit on bread throughout the pregnancy. Honestly, it’s something I really have to watch as it’s so easy for me to go overboard with.

At night I ate my latest snack obsession, Pop Corners. I’ve been meaning to write a review about them. These things are great! SO great I really can’t be trusted around them, I tend to go overboard.

That was it for the day. I’m going to give it another shot tomorrow which will be a good test as I’ll be traveling to NY for a baby shower.

If you’d like to follow along "live" keep tabs on my food journal account at @RonisFood I don’t chat on it as it’s only for food journaling. So if you’d like to chat hit me up at @RoniNoone.

OK gotta run.. someone else needs to eat. ;)

Oh! and I did a Friday Wrap up post but moved them to RoniNoone.com. It’s just makes more sense to post them there. Click here to see what I was up to all week.

The carrot sticks look huge next to you wrap and hand lol!

  2. roni says:

LOL they were huge! I just peeled some regular sized carrots and went to town. ;)

I haven’t managed to consistently track my food, but I just got a BodyBugg, so I’m hoping that will change. It doesn’t really do much good to track my output if I’m not tracking my input.

It’s good to be reminded that there’s no “one size fits all” approach. :)

  4. Wendy says:

    Lol yeah you did!

  5. Kate says:

I’m so surprised you don’t do Weight Watchers online for your tracking! I’ve just started up on-line (paper is too easy to cheat with for me)… with the new program, it’s nice to have everything there. I’m a big fan so far.

  6. Sistergirl says:

Oh, I am good at starting but its been a long time since I have been able to stick to it. I am beginning my workout program again. I signed up for two “cause walk” in hopes that I will be soo motivated.

I use pictures too! Its a good reminder to figure out PointsPlus later.

  8. Good job passing on the bread basket. I too love bread! But when I want to lose weight I do better if I cut back on carbs and thus there goes my bread!

I like to journal by hand the old fashioned way in a notebook! There is something about writing down what I eat that keeps me more aware and even if I don’t share it with anyone just myself seeing what I ate in print helps me stay on track.

  9. I really love the WWers online etools journal… I wouldn’t have done it if I hadn’t had that. There is also an iPhone app for it!

Also, I just wanted to say (since I’m normally a lurker) congrats on the birth of your new little guy! I’m a WWers lifetime member that is now 15 weeks pregnant with my second, and it has been great to watch your story. I’m nervous about gaining, but I know I have too… it is an unfamiliar journey for me, as last time I was pregnant I was 301 pounds!

I Know I SHOULD like etools guys. Not sure what the deal is. I find it clumsy on my computer. Maybe I’ll give it another shot.

I think it’s hard to find your food journaling “groove” sometimes and your needs definitely change over time. I used to journal super faithfully an online journal. I loved using the computer to journal and had all the nutrition right there. I’ve also done a simple journal in a notebook that I kept very faithfully. It was so simple just to right things down and I could take it anywhere. If I didn’t now the calories/points of something I still wrote it down. I’ve done the little weekly journals that Weight Watchers gives you. I’ve tried the Weight Watchers etools. I tried your tweet, eat, post thing. For the past several months I’ve been doing really poorly with my eating and have only been sporadically journaling on myfitnesspal iphone app. I love your picture journal idea though! I tried it out yesterday and it worked great! So quick and easy. Good to look back at the end of the day and see exactly what I’ve eaten.
