Topics this week include…

  • Struggling with regret when looking at old photos.
  • When will I be back after having baby.
  • Yet another question about how I stay organized.
  • Seasonal food cravings
  • Would I recommend Weight Watchers for a 10lb loss?

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. Wow, you made a really poignant observation when you said how we either look back and long to be in that place again, or look back in disgust. What a great goal to be in a place where we look back and say wow I was really happy, or that was really fun, etc. You’ll notice this behavior whenever you take a group picture – Everyone is only concerned about what they look like. It’d be cool if we could let go and just enjoy the moment, the things that really matter.

p.s. My doctor allowed me to take my phone into the operating room for my c-section. All my friends were able to see my beautiful newborn right away…. Just sayin’. :)

I am on the new plan to lose about 25 lbs. If I “only” had 10lbs to lose, I’d still join and begin the plan. I did the old plan and LOVED it. This new plan has retaught me about nutrition and I’ve been able to incorporate new recipes and new foods because of the new pts+ system. I would tell her to DEFINITELY try it because it’ll help her keep from regaining those 10 lbs. That’s just my opinion.
    I LOVE YOUR BLOGS!!!

I really hope you blog about the babies first year! :) I hope to be pregnant within the next couple months, and just to learn/see/read observe would be great! :) I love hearing how different people do things, what works for them, what doesn’t, breastfeeding, eating healthy, all of that with the baby!

A few months ago, I was 30 lbs lighter than I am now. I’m still doing the WW program, but I’ve just hit this very rough patch. When I was 201, I would talk about how I didn’t see a difference between then and when I was heavier.

NOW…I’ve put 30 lbs back on and I’m struggling to take it off and just get back to 201 again! I’m thinking, now, how I will not take my progress for granted again. I will embrace it and be proud of how far I will have come – AGAIN.

I think it took this long for me to learn that lesson – of appreciating where I am and what I’m doing in that moment, as well as looking forward to the future.

Roni, Thank you so much for answering my question–I really appreciate your advice and insight! I didn’t mention this in my question but I have struggled also with looking back at H.S. pics and can’t believe I thought I was fat then! So, I guess I’ve dealt with both types of regret. Since asking my question I have been thinking why looking at those pics from grad school on facebook bother me so much and what I’ve come up with is: that is not the person I saw myself as! I guess now my outside just matches who I am. When I see pics of myself now I am still critical but overall I feel like I look like the person I want to be perceived to be: healthy, fit, “normal” looking. Does that make sense? I guess it is just coming to terms with that I’ve changed and I like myself more now and I need to make peace with the person I was (I may have been a little chubby, but my soul was still the same). It’s not even all about the weight, but the healthy lifestyle I have created. I’m moving on.

Hey Roni! Just wanted to say that strawberries are on sale because it is the height of strawberry season here in Florida! They are practically free here right now and we are eating them constantly. Oh, and I doubt that clementines are in season in Maryland in the winter either, right? :) Ah well, we eat local as much as possible but I like apples, and they aren’t really a Florida crop. You just have to do the best you can. Love your sites and the podcasts…I listen to them on my runs and they help take me out of my head.

So much good info in this podcast! Idon’t know where to start. As for looking back at pictures I think I’m still feeling that “Wow, I look so much better now” feeling. I fight internal head issues about the past all the time so I try to just focus on what’s positive now.

How exciting you’ll be writing about baby’s first year! :)

I love your answer to “do what you can when you can”! I put that into practice regarding my apartment organizing project and instead of stressing just worked on it and in a few weeks it is half way done. The other half will be done (3 more closets to organize)…whenever and its working for me!

Roni, as far as I know, WW PointsPlus plan should work if one has 5 or more Ibs to lose—having lost 60 Ibs 5 yrs ago on the old plan, and regaining 4 Ibs back in the past year because I got off the plan for 6 months, I signed up for the new program this year and while entering all my information, the feedback I got from their website was that it would not work if I had 4 or less Ibs to lose, so I’m assuming it should work for weight loss of 5 Ibs or more, although it will probably take a longer time than the classic 1.5-2Ibs a week.

If I had access to old (as in Flex or Momentum Plan) info, I’d just follow that if it was a matter of 5-10 lbs. It doesn’t seem worth it to join and follow a whole new program, paying $58/month (here in NB, Canada), to lose a few vanity pounds.

More than than wanting to lose the vanity pounds, I felt I was loisng a grip on healthy eating habits, thus resulting in weight gain, and I didn’t want it to spiral out of control. I would have followed the old program, except I was an online member, and that is what works for me, and the only online option available right now is the PointsPlus system….

I joined WW (the new plan) to loose 5 lbs, and so far I’ve lost 1 pound and it’s been very easy. I think just having to be accountable has made the biggest difference, and I’m also learning how to make smarter decisions with food.

I would definitely recommend WW for 10 pounds!

Ah Yay! Thanks for answering my question and the answer was perfect. With your answer, I’m starting to re-learn the way I live. I think what my problem was that I felt I didn’t have enough time to tackle jobs or activities after work. But now I’m living by your words, I will do what I can in the time I have. Thanks alot, It was like you were talk right to me. Melanie
