Weekend Quote: Healthy Habits

9 Comments 1249 views

I went to my weekly boot camp class today and I’m not going to lie, I totally kicked butt! I surprised myself. I really did. My activity level has significantly plummeted through this pregnancy. It has to, of course, but after a few days of not making a conscious effort to simply MOVE MORE I start to get a bit down on myself.

Not because I’m gaining weight or getting lazy. I mean, I am PREGNANT (sometimes I have to remind myself) but because I don’t want to lose my healthy habits. And that’s exactly what working out has become for me, a habit. A habit that I love. A habit that makes me feel good. A habit that I really don’t want to lose.

Motivation is what gets you started.  Habit is what keeps you going.  ~Jim Ryun

Those that know my story know I didn’t start my journey with a love of exercise. Actually the opposite is true–this post outlines my history a bit. Over the years I’ve fallen in love with the way I FEEL when I workout. The time I get to spend with myself on a run is a form a therapy. The strength and confidence I possess after a trip to the gym can’t be duplicated any other way. It’s not about weight loss, or achieving some "perfect" body. It’s about doing something for me. Something that’s good for my body and soul.

In my opinion, healthy habits are huge piece of the ‘lifestyle’ puzzle and these habits are formed slow and steady. You may want it to happen overnight (I always did) but you’ll find more success as the Tortoise not the Hare. Muster up the motivation to get started. Continue to move forward at your own pace and soon enough your healthy habits will keep you going.

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

I totally know what you’re feeling, but for me, when I got out of my habit during pregnancy, I was itching to get out running and being active as soon as I had healed. And you know, I was surprised at how easy it was and how well I did when I picked it all back up. I think because I started out at a good place, my body held on to some of it. And it felt really good.

Thank you for the inspiration today. I am trying to develop a walking habit. It is cold and icy and I am trying to “tread the mill” as my daughter says. Everyone was out today and I gave serious consideration to not treading the mill, but did. I was glad I did and then read your blog and was doubley glad I did. THANKS!

I view exercise the same way, it is ME time! I am home with the 2 boys all day and I am a better Mommy since I exercise. I am more patient and confident and energetic!

    Hi Roni,
I am starting a weight loss/fitness blog. I happened across your blog and have been enjoying it as I get mine up and running. I had a technical question for you. I’m using wordpress and am trying to figure out how to get my unique icon in the blog roll for my RSS feed. Do you have any ideas or can you point me in the right direction? I noticed you have your picture in yours. Mine shows up in my web address when you go to my site, but not in my feed list (I use brief for my reader).

Thank you, Roni, I needed to hear that!! After struggling for years (I have yapped in your ears about that too, I fear), my health now leaves me no option but to go for new habits and be the tortoise ;) So here´s to new things!!

Lyn – I don’t think I did anything special. It’s just my favicon. Have you set that up? http://www.w3.org/2005/10/howto-favicon

After struggling with serious fatigue during my first trimester and working two jobs (one of them waiting tables), I definitely got out of the workout habit. Just the past few days, though, I’ve been feeling “blah.” Not fat, necessarily, but just out of shape, weak, unenergized. I decided that it was better late than never and went to the local indoor pool today. Walking or anything weight bearing is starting to get tough at 24 weeks (especially after spending 4-5 hours pounding concrete floors at work), but swimming (even though I could only make it for about 15 minutes) felt so freakin’ AMAZING!!! I felt weightless and free, my heart was pumping, my muscles are aching, and I can’t wait for the sleep I will have tonight! Definitely glad I’m getting back into the workout habit.
