Product Review: Pumpkin Spice VitaTops

Have you heard? There’s a new VitaTop flavor! Pumpkin Spice! If you are unfamiliar with their products, Vitalicious was originally made famous for their 100 calorie brownie (at least that’s how I found them) but now have a line of VitaTops, VitaMuffins, VitaMixes, VitaCake (which I had for me 32 birthday :) and even VitaCoffee! Which I’ll never try as I’m not a coffee drinker (and no one will convert me, not even Jim Doran who’s been trying to forever!) ;)

I’ve already reviewed Golden Corn, Dark Chocolate Pomegranate, Banana Nut, Chocolate Mint and Apple Crumb. They are all pretty good but the choclate ones dominate in my opinion. How did the Pumpkin stack up? Well let me walk you through my little taste test via the web cam.

Upon initial inspection, I’m not that impressed with the pumpkin seeds on top…

I think I might of gotten gipped on this one. It sort of reminded me of that scene in casino. You know…

Oh how I love Deniro but I digress. :)

Looking past the seeds, I broke it in half and I must say the inside looked moist and delicious!

So I took a bite…

Product Review: Pumpkin Spice VitaTops - bite

Oh.. My.. Word.. SO good. I mean really. I didn’t think I’d ever like a VitaTop flavor as much as I like the chocolate line but Pumpkin Spice is giving chocolate a run for it’s money! The flavor was spot on to cure that pumpkin baked good craving that seems to happen in the fall and winter months, all for 100 calories, 1g of fat, 26g of carbs, 8g of fiber and 3g of protien. That’s 1 old WWP and 3 new WWPP.

I like the idea of the seeds on top but honestly, they didn’t do much for me. For some reason I think of the seeds as a savory/salty snack and the pumpkin baked good as a sweet/dessert like snack and the two just don’t mix BUT it’s not a deal breaker. I actually popped off the few seeds I had and ate them separately. In my opinion Vitalicious could ditch them altogether but I’m curious what others think who’ve gotten a chance to try them.

Overall I give the Pumpkin Spice VitaTops a thumbs up.

Oh! and I ate mine after popping it the toaster on the highest setting right from the freezer. It came out perfect!

Good to know about the toaster. I throw mine in the microwave normally, but the toasting it seems like it would taste better. My fav are the chocolate Vita Tops, but I’m gonna check out the Pumpkin Spice next time!

They look so good! I’m dying to try the new flavor, but I don’t usually have $30 or so lying around to spend on a box of vitas. :(

Hi! I just happened upon your blog and I’m so excited to explore your journey. I share a similar experience and I’m very passionate about helping others recover from addictive eating behavior that causes obesity.

While I was losing weight initially, I bought a lot of vitamuffins!!!! Loved those chocolate one. But then, as I became more aware of the difference between real healthy food and fake processed food that is packaged and marketing to make you think it was a healthy food, I cut out those vitamuffins cold turkey. But I have to give them major props for being a great TRANSITION food. I needed that as I was coming off of sugary high calorie foods. But eventually, I didn’t need that anymore and I moved on to things like banana soft serve . . . yum and real!

I also saw that one of my children was obsessing about the vitamuffins–unfortunately she inherited my sugar addiction–and that was a clear indication that they are not something that could be kept in mykitchen. Same goes for Skinny Cow anything . . . just my experience.

I’m wondering what other people think of these types of foods. Can you keep to eating them only once in a while or are you going back to your kitchen time and time again staring them down?

For me it’s about moderation. As soon as I tell myself something is off limits totally then I crave it even more. Having a few things like this around the house for those time I want to grab and go are essential for me in maintenance and while I was loosing but like you I use them less and less and choose a piece of fruit or make myself a an english muffin pizza. Last night it was triscuits and laughing cow. Everyone has to find what works for them.

Roni-that same thing used to happen to me until I started eating high volumes of nutritionally excellent food. I am very interested in this subject and how people react to/think about/obsess about food. I look forward to hearing about whether or not the VitaMuffins had a similar effect on anyone else. The girl sitting next to me at work says she has them at her house and no one will eat them, while at my house they wouldn’t last a day!!!! Isn’t that interesting!

I’ve had a pack in my freezer for months! I forget they are there then I remember and it’s a fun surprise! But with other foods (ie baked dorritos) I can’t stop obsessing over them until the bag is gone. We all have different triggers.

I have had VitaTops on my radar for about a year now, reading your reviews, perusing the website, and even signing up for emails from them. I have yet to buy any though. :( I just have never been able to justify the cost, which seems immense for a snack food for me. I know they must be really great, and I love that they are frozen so they last forever… I promised myself last week when they sent me an email that I will buy some for myself at Valentine’s Day, and I’m looking forward to it!

Everything sounds great except for the pumpkin seeds on top – like you said they are more of a “salty treat” and pumpkin is something i associate with something sweet – that said, I would like chopped walnuts or pecans would be good on top – or at least more appealing than pumpkin seeds…. they do look delicious though :)

I find that I have very good control over when it comes to the VitaTops . I never eat more than one and one box will last me weeks because I don’t over indulge. It’s nice to have when I am wanting something warm and sweet. The seeds on top kinda look gross to me , I am thinking they aren’t needed and I would take them off. I am going to look for this flavor because it sounds like something I’d like. Thanks for the review.

I love them! I usually eat one a day…not a trigger food at all for me. Partially because they are individually wrapped and also because they aren’t especially cheap so I think of it as a treat. Bad news is they went up to 3 points plus on the new WW program

This might be my favorite Vitatop flavor yet! I do like the Apple Crumb, too, but the pumpkin seems to taste the most like a “real” dessert if that makes sense. They really are the best out of the toaster. I didn’t mind the seeds – gave it some crunch.
