5 Ways to Rescue Your New Year’s Resolution (The Weight Watchers Ice Cream Video!)

54 Comments 3014 views

My Weight Watchers Ice Cream video is live! If you have no idea what I’m talking about click here for my post about the video shoot.

In it I talk talk about 5 tips to help you keep your new years resolutions but I actually pulled together 10 that I think are key…

Forget “Perfect”
Everyone is looking forward to the New Year. It’s a new chance. An opportunity to be perfect. There is only one problem – perfection is hard and, not to mention, nearly impossible. So once we come to the realization that we aren’t perfect, our New Year’s resolutions get thrown out the window. To be successful, set realistic and specific goals. Resolve to make small changes. Have one healthy meal a day or always take the stairs.
Get Creative
Getting creative in the kitchen can save you calories and money. When you are trying to make a change, it’s important to fight cravings in unusual ways. For example, if you crave fries, make them with butter squash; if you crave pizza, use a whole grain tortilla instead of dough. Chips and dip more your thing? Slice up some veggies and dip them in hummus. The goal isn’t to stop snacking – the goal is to get creative with your snacks.
Rearrange Your Refrigerator
How many times have you bought fresh groceries only to have them rot in your refrigerator drawers? It’s probably time to rearrange the fridge! Put all the fresh, healthy stuff at eye level. Make it the first thing you see when you open the door. This way you are more apt to grab that apple or bag of carrot sticks when you are hunting for something to snack on.
Be Prepared for Snack Attacks
When cravings strike, be smart and choose snacks that combine portion-control and taste. In the video, Roni uses a Weight Watchers Strawberry Smoothie Bar as an example of this type of snack. Having the right snacks on hand makes it easier to curb cravings and stay on track!
Find Your Tribe
Do your best to surround yourself physically or virtually with people who will support you. Ask your spouse to join you in after-dinner walks. Try to get your family into more activities. Get people you love involved and if they aren’t game, attend a few workout classes and introduce yourself. Search for local groups online. Finding your tribe will help you not feel so alone while you make certain lifestyle changes.

And here it is… my first professional video…

I love these tips. I definitely have many of them in place (blogs, online WW community, having awesome healthy snacks around, and especially getting creative in the kitchen), and I really am enjoying the new WW (STF) way of eating.

You are so cute! Great job!!! Craving apples dipped in peanut butter after watching the video.

Great tips! I actually posted a blog post today as a resource for at home workouts. I think it’s crucial for people to know that you don’t need a gym or fancy equipment, you just need to MOVE! :)

I also love the “Find your Tribe” tip, I would lost without the blog world and twitter. None of my “real life” friends care a thing about health and wellness.

    Great Job!

Great things to think about. The only one I seriously question is “Be Prepared for Snack Attacks: When cravings strike, be smart and use products that combine portion-control and decadent taste.” Cravings are not hunger and until emotional eaters deal with that fact they will struggle endlessly with food. Scarfing down 100 calorie non-food snack packs does not get to the heart of the matter and will not lead to long term freedom from food addiction. You may lose weight in the short term but I guarantee you will not have long term success. There are many phenomental books that cover the subject of food cravings and what they really are, Skinny Thinking and The Beck Diet Solution, to name a few. Best of luck to everyone struggling with food!

You did a great job Roni! Love your site, love your tips!

You didn’t ask for it, but I want to give a few words of constructive criticism. This is coming from a place of wanting to see you continue making videos and becoming a real pro at it, so hopefully you won’t take offense to it. I noticed you are talking with your hands a lot, probably out of nervousness. It can be distracting. Try to stand tall and keep your arms mostly at your sides. Only use your hands if you’re trying emphasize a certain point. Also, in the first full body shot you stood with your hands clasped in front of your body and you were the slightest bit slouched, which makes you look uncomfortable. Try to stand tall (be proud girl, you are awesome!!!!) and keep your arms to your side. Little things like that go a long way!

I’m not a ‘professional’ speaker, but I have had plenty of practice through my job and took a presentations training course where we were subjected to watching ourselves on video over and over to improve our skills. I hope to see you in many videos to come!!!

    roni

    January 20, 2011

Thanks for the feedback! So funny about the hands as the director told me to use the hands. I’m a hand talker so I just did what was natural.

And my posture is all off as I am conscious of the pregnancy weight gain. I can see it too. :)

Stand tall girl, you look beautiful and your body is doing amazing things right now :) I learned a lot from watching myself on video and comparing it to speakers I look up to. Check out Ted.com for some amazing speakers/talks. That site is so inspiring all around.
