Channeling the Hulk

12 Comments 1455 views

I am HATING this cold weather. I know it’s December but I feel like it came out of nowhere. It’s been in the low 20s with a wind chill in single digits. FRIGID!

But this morning I had a run scheduled… I’m only down to running once a week (remember my pregnancy training plan?) and I purposely made that day Wednesday so I can volunteer in Little Man’s gym class. His school is just about 1.5 miles away. So I figured I’d run there, take a break, PEE (damn pregnancy bladder), hang out with the kids at gym and then run home. I’ve done this for the second time this week and it’s perfect! In essence I made a DATE to run. When I can’t run anymore, I’ll walk. Either way it get me outside, moving and feeling fantastic!

Today I channeled the Hulk (I love wearing Little Man’s hats) to get out there in the cold. Although I need some clothes. :) I bundled up in a few layers, grabbed a scarf, some gloves and the iPod. I was dreading it but as always now that I’m back I’ve reinforced the "You never regret a run" theory.

I feel fantastic and ready to tackle the day. What’s left of it anyway. I have an article to write, a proposal to put together, a contest to enter (more on that later,) a kitchen to clean and a recipe to get up. This morning I made my second batch of these…

Did you get out and about today? Don’t let the weather scare you.. once you get moving it isn’t so bad. :)

I went outside walking yesterday and it was -9 F degrees. I made an hour walk and felt fantastic after that.

It’s not your imagination, this is unusually cold for the area. My brother works for NOAA and he warned us about these 3 days being record-breaking cold. I did half my usual run on Monday (when it was 17) and did not go out Tuesday or today (when it was 0, with windchill). I hit the treadmill instead, which is annoying but like you, I have other people’s health to consider as well as my own. I will be back out there tomorrow if it’s not raining, and definitely Thursday.

I didn’t get out today but I did get out yesterday. 7+ inches on snow and ice, high of 20, wind chill in the single digits and I walked to work and back. Nice 3 miles out! I would have walked today but I have a 4pm Zumba class in the neighboring town. Of course, if we get all the freezing rain, sleet and snow that the forecast is calling for tonight, I may be walking again tomorrow out of necessity instead of choice!

Here it’s been below zero. 20 sounds warm to me.

I rarely miss a day running, so i have been out in the cold and wind of Pa. every day … I don’t love the wind, but I find it enpowering to know that I can/will run in most any weather condition.

The weather here in Phoenix has been absolutely gorgeous, so I had no trouble getting out and hiking a nearby mountain today with my husband. This time of year is when I remember, “Oh, yeah, this is why I live here!” (I definitely forget all through the summer!) :)

RONI, you are so awesome! I’m such a whimp when it comes to the COLD! I try to be outside the least as possible, so I miss running! I know I just have to get over it! I’m aiming for Christmas week to get out there…cause I’m off for 5 days…Fingers crossed.

I’ve got a picture to inspire me too. It’s a prince fighting his dark alter ego. It definitely helps when the negative or lazy voice comes knocking.
