One Mom’s Journey from Fat to Skinny to Confident

Do You Have a Default Song?

17 Comments 1745 views

This is a weird question, I know, but I catch my self humming the same tune over and over and OVER again and I need to know if I’m the only one. I do it on almost a daily basis and it’s been happening for as long as I can remember. Anytime I’m in any quiet situation without music or background noise…. BAM it pops into my head and I almost unconsciously start to sing it. Well…. hum it… actually in the case of my default song it’s… Do Be Do‘ing it.

The song is strangers in the night. You know, Sinatra…

and I don’t sing the whole song just the Do be do, do do be do be do do part. I was doing it this morning while getting dressed and ended up arguing with my 5 year old that it wasn’t the Scooby Song. He thought I was singing it wrong. :)

Anyway, I can’t be the only one who has a default song. Fess up… what do you sing in the shower when you are all alone? Do you have a default song?

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

All of my default songs are total weird earworms and I do not even want to mention them here for fear I will start singing it. You have a nice one.

I have a few that I rotate through… today it’s the Circus Theme! But usually it is I Dream of Genie in a lounge style (or whistling)… OR, my roommate has caught me randomly belting out the Sesame Street “It is I, Captain Vegetable!” when I’m looking for something.

    Or the Girl from Iponima.

You are SO not the only one. lol

I am perpetually humming or singing something, but it’s never one default song. Always something random. Either what I’ve been listening to lately on my iPod, something I’ve heard recently on the radio, etc. Lately it’s been songs from Glee. The worst is when I don’t know the words, so I just keep humming/singing the same line over and over again. Or when I get a really awful, annoying song stuck on repeat.

I have several, but probably the most humiliating is “say you, say me” by lionel richie.

Default song, I like that! I totally have one, and the weird thing is, it’s not a song that particularly sticks in my head. I get other songs STUCK in my head sometimes (Mr. Big’s “I’m The One Who Wants To Be With You” is THE WORST for me – I sing it to the point of giving MYSELF a headache.) But I have this other song, and I only know one line of it, and it is the song that comes to mind anytime no other song is on my mind, in the quiet moments, or just when I think “what is a song I could sing right now?” — the funny thing is I have no idea what the song is, and I only know that one line (and I think I’m screwing that up as it is). It’s a song my old roommate used to sing in college, and for some reason it has become my default song: the song I think of when I think of ‘a song’.

I am more of the random jingle/tv theme default song person. It changes a lot , but like last night the theme to Baywatch came in my head as I was leaving my daughter’s room. Because I always think of The Hoff when I check on my daughter. Don’t you?

And just now, “Some times you feel like a nut” just came to mind. Oh how the mind works!

Oh, there was a period in my life a few years ago when “Yellow Submarine” was my default song. We determined that it was when I was overly stressed that I would start singing this song! Nope, not alone!!

Hah – I have a default song when I’m overly stressed too. It’s the theme tune to the Thomas the Tank Engine.

My other default tune is ‘he’s got the whole world in his hands, the whole wide world in his hands’. I’m not religious so have no idea why that sticks in my head all the time. Maybe God is trying to tell me something ;-)

Walking On Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves. But only the “I’ll say it I’ll say it I’ll say it again now” instrumental part!

I was just thinking about this the other day! I thought I was the only one who did this. Mine is “Allstar” by Smashmouth. I’ve been defaulting to that song for 11 years, since it came out when I was a senior in high school.

How funny, for the longest time I would hum “Strangers in the Night!” I haven’t even thought about it in years now. Of course now it will be in my head all day :)

Yay, i am not the only one who mentioned a Christmas song as their default song. i thought that was totally weird. It didn’t matter the season, I’d still find myself humming Christmas tunes; mostly little drummer boy! Not always that particular Christmas carol but always a Christmas tune!
Although, now that I have a 2 yr old wonderpets often sifts through my brain.

Okay … this is freaky. Just this morning I was asking my therapist why, for as long as I can remember, I would hum “Strangers In The Night” over and over again, most times without even realizing it. I still do … on a regular basis. She said to do a search online to see what it brought up regarding “chronic” humming. My search brought me to your blog, here … and now I see there are two more people who constantly have or do hum this song. This really is weird.
