Sinus Infected Sunday :(

20 Comments 1737 views

I feel like crap. What started as what I thought was allergies about a week ago is now turning into a full blown sinus infection. I can’t breath, my through hurts from the post nasal drip and my head feels like it’s going to explode at any moment.

I took a hot bath. I’m sipping on tea. I made myself soup. I’ve tried everything but I’m getting NO relief. Ugh. It sucks.

But enough whining. I don’t want to be big downer. I did try to make the best of the weekend. There was no running but little guy and I had a blast in the kitchen Saturday morning and we did get out and hit the trails again.

Now I present WHY I am the family photogragher. This is why I have no pictures of me. lol

The weekend was still nice considering. Hopefully I’ll feel better tomorrow. Hope you had a great weekend!

Looks like you have good reason to insist on being the family photog. Feel better soon, Roni!

Hope ya feel better soon. Just a tip: I use really spicy Mexican food to clear my sinus out for some temporary pressure relief. I’ve no idea why it works!
Lovely family pics! I guess once you master your cam, you have to teach your Hubby to use it too! I’m in the same boat.

Have you tried a Neti-Pot? I can’t do it… I’m weird with stuff like that (I freaked out the first time I had to do a nebulizer, which simply involves breathing :-), but I know people who SWEAR by it (and some say that if they do it at the very first symptom, it keeps their allergies or cold from progressing). Just a thought :-) Hope you’re feeling better soon. Lots of this crap seems to be going around…

Roni—Try a Neti Pot. The last sinus infection I had, it worked wonders. They sell them at Walgreens. Kinda gross process but the end result is relief!

I have to agree with the neti pot idea. I get sinus infections a few ties a year and doing the neti pot 2x/day really nips it in the bud. My husband really had to sell me on it in the beginning but now it’s my go to sinus relief. I hope you feel better!

I’m gonna 3rd the suggestion of a neti pot. It makes me gag, but gosh, once you can get the stuff flowing, you’ll feel so much better!

I was going to suggest a neti pot as well but I see a few people said it as well. One other thing that I find makes a big difference (and it’s safe during pregnancy :) grapefruit seed extract. You put a few drops in juice a few times a day and they sell a nasal spray with it as well. I had a terrible infection and it was so much better after about 2 days. I buy it at Henry’s but I am sure you can find it at any health food store. Feel Better!!!! and congrats on the baby.

I second and third all of those who suggested the neti pot. You can use Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mother in it and it will kill anything and everything in your sinuses.

    Feel Better!

Yes on the neti Pot they are great…use as much as u like when u are stuffy. A really warm shower on the face would probably do more than a bath , think inhaling steam to loosen up yucky stuff, sudafed, Tylenol, lots of fluids and an antibiotic specifically for sinus. Best, PJ

I’m sorry to hear you aren’t feeling well. When I get sinus issues I suck on strong peppermint candy like Altoids and it helps to open up the nasal passages and provides some relief.

I hope you get to feeling better soon!

I agree with the neti pot suggestion! I use it every day and its the only thing that helps with my allergies. It does feel a little strange the first few times that you use it but after that I didnt feel it at all. Hope you feel better soon! :)

Get well soon! And I like your spirit!

And totally understand why you are the photographer – my dad always used to leave one of his fingertips in the picture just to make sure you recognized him as the photgrapher. :)

Here’s three somethings which always work for me:

    1. Steambath from hell (family tradition in our house, sorry about the “h”-word): Boil Camomile (you can also add sage leaves, good against inflammations) in hot water, put the pot on the table, sit next to it – without burning yourself, of course – and put two blankets over both of you.Inhale. 10 to 15 minutes per sitting, once or twice a day until it gets better. Don’t get too close to the pot in the beginning, you can adjust your position so that you feel as comfy as possible. And it is easier with an audiobook or good music. Kills the germs and clears your skin all at once.

No photos afterwards, as you will look weird and red in the face for about 15 min. Put dry things on and your head warm and dry.

    2. Here’s one from my granny: hot foot baths up to your calves 3 times a day if it’s bad, less when it gets better. Add some nice-smelling bath foam or even bath oil against colds, this way you can also inhale.

    3. And a nice one from me: ginger tea with honey.

Neti pot! People in other countries rinse their sinuses daily, like brushing teeth. I had a sinus infection once I swore was a brain tumor, now do neti daily, never had another one. I work in a very busy ER and am around viruses CONSTANTLY — I’d be sick all the time if I didn’t use a neti pot. Get better, Roni then get one (hard to use/useless when you’re in full blown sinus infection mode) – we need you!

Sorry you’re sick. I thought I had the same thing–it felt like awwwful allergies but then turned into full blown sick. It turnred out to be this virus that was going around. In the kids it was hand/foot/mouth and in adults it was just like the flu. Hopefully you can get on some antibiotics and feel better. I’m still trying to get over it :(
