One Mom’s Journey from Fat to Skinny to Confident

Product Review: Apple Crumb VitaTop

16 Comments 1868 views

Last week I got a new shipment of VitaTops to try for product reviews. Vitalicious is a Roni’s Weigh sponsor and I’ve been working with them for quite some time. Anyone remember the VitaMix recipe contest I hosted way back when on GreenLiteBites? Well I’m hoping to do another fun contest/giveway this time here on Roni’s Weigh. I should have more info soon!

In the meantime, I thought I’d give you my thoughts on the new(er) Apple Crumb flavor. I tried it two ways. First defrosted when they were delivered and then toasted straight out of the freezer. By far the second way was my favorite.

When I opened the first package the smell was DIVINE. Very apple crumb but the "crumb" wasn’t too "crumby" which was disappointing. That’s the part I was most excited about. The flavor was good and there was chunks of apple in the top which was nice.

Since I wanted more "Crumb" I decided toasting one would help and it did! Today I took one out of the freezer and popped it straight into the toaster on level 5. The result was a nice crusty outside and a warm middle. It would be delicious warmed apples and cinnamon with a scoop of Bryers free. I’m getting all warm and fuzzy just think about it. :)

Bottom line is if you like the Blue Bran you’ll like the Apple Crumb. My favorites are still the Chocolate Mint and the Dark Chocolate Pomegranate. What can I say? I’m a chocolate girl at heart. :)

For those that don’t know, Vitatops are all around 100 calories, 1g of fat, 6g of fiber and 1 WWP. They may be found in the freezer section of your grocery store but you can also buy them online by clicking here. Be sure to use my code, RonisWeigh for 10% off!

Has anyone else tried it yet? Thoughts?

Full Disclosure: Vitalicious is a Roni’s Weigh Sponsor they supply products for me to sample. However all opinions expressed in this post are my own as the always are.

I tried it the same way – defrosted when delivered and wasn’t thrilled – now will toast it and let you know LOL

I am a vita brownie gal! Another chocoholic LOL

They all look so tasty and I have been wanting to order some, but looking at the nutritional info and ingredients list, they have either Soy Bran or Soy Fiber. Unfortunately, I’m allergic to soy… Do you know if they make any without soy, or maybe if they use Whey instead?

I love them as a garb and go snack! Still kinda eah abt the defrosting!

I did try them Roni, and I really liked them. I defrosted mine, and you are right, there weren’t many “crumbs”. But I really enjoyed the chunks of apple in it, and I felt it was pretty close to an apple cobbler. With a tbsp of whipped cream or FF cool whip, it would be a divine dessert!

I love the Apple Crumb Vita tops! I like mine when they have been out of the freezer for about 20 minutes and are still a little cold inside. I have not tried toasting them however- looks like I will have to give it a try! All the flavors I have tried I like- the corm muffins are okay- I ate them with a nice bowl of chili and it worked well!

Oh I like the corn too! It’s a little sweet but totally yummy with chili!

I tried these and the Deep velvety chocolate muffins. I have to be honest that I didn’t like these Apple Crumb ones at all. In fact I am waiting for the day (tomorrow ;)) when I eat the last one so that I can focus on my chocolate ones :) I also ordered some mixes online yesterday and used your coupon code! Thanks for the savings! They will arrive tomorrow….I see brownies in my future for this weekend.

So glad to hear the Apple crumb isn’t all that great. It sounds delish and I have been soooo tempted to order them and I would have if I could order just one box. Glad to hear I can live without them. They sound similar to the Apple Berry muffins ???

I was disappointed in the apple crumb, although my expectations were pretty high. The actual flavor was okay, but the crumb topping was soggy and tasted like the rest of the muffin–what’s the point? Perhaps it would be better toasted and with some whipped topping. And a little fat-free sweetened condensed milk caramel. Hmmm. My favorite flavors remain Deep Chocolate and Mint Chocolate.

I still haven’t tried Vitatops! I really want to but they are pretty expensive. I just can’t justify it.

I haven’t found a “flavor” that I have really grown attached to… so the vitatops have been indifferent to me – however, my 8 year old *LOVES* them. He will choose vitatops over junk food for a snack. (He actually thinks they’re junk food b/c they’re cakey – shhh). :-) Anyway, I haven’t seen apple crumb and that’s probably one of the flavors I would find more appealing (and I know he’d love it). I’ll have to grocery shop at a different store this week to see if they carry different flavors than mine does… we don’t have a very large selection. Boo hiss.

I *love* the Apple Crumb vitatops, but you HAVE to toast them. They aren’t very good otherwise. I’m not much of a chocolate person, so these were right up my alley. I wish they’d come out with the mix for them. I prefer baking my own vitamuffins.

Robyn – I contacted them about it and they said there is nothing they can do about the soy. Sorry. :(
