Just eat and enjoy the chocolate. Don’t pillage the pantry consuming everything in sight fighting the craving. That’s illogical. There’s nothing wrong with savoring some good chocolate at the end of the day now and then. Enjoy it guilt free.

Now… GO TO BED. You’re exhausted.

I hear ya! I think I just needed someone else to say it! Thanks!

  2. Wait, wait. Wake up! I found more chocolate.

  3. Last night I went to one of the new self-serve yogurt places that is becoming such a fad. (We are slow here in the Midwest.) It was my son’s last night home before college and my husband had been dying for an excuse to go. I ate a reasonable amount of yogurt, despite the only cups available being HUGE, and a reasonable amount of chocolate toppings:) I enjoyed it immensely and told myself that it was okay not to feel guilty. And when I got home I told myself I did not need to let that little cheat lead to a binge. Progress for me!

  4. Amen!
I try to always keep those ghirardelli squares, or some other better-quality dark chocolate on hand for situations such as that. The way I look at it, if I’m craving chocolate, the best thing I can do is curl up with a square and maybe a few sips of red wine and call it dessert. It does far less damage than if I had just a sweet craving and then wound up spending money on a Sonic Blast, when really a 1/2 oz square of antioxidants-and-pleasure-in-one could have done the trick for only 60 calories.

  5. I had a very similar conversation with myself around 11PM last night. I was having blog technical drama all week. All I wanted to do was stuff my face with corn chips. Instead, I shut my laptop screen and went to bed. SO MUCH happier that I did that instead of the alternative.

Good for you! As you’ve said before (and which I’ve taken to heart) is that there is no “off program” or “on program” – it’s all life. And part of life is allowing yourself to enjoy things in moderation. You did that, enjoyed your chocolate, and then treated yourself kindly by going to bed. No reason to feel guilty about nurturing yourself :-)

oh yes. And this totally applies to dinner with friends this evening. There will be dessert.

Thanks for posting this. Simple, to the point, and totally true. I forget that sometimes and find myself feeling unsatisfied and on the verge of out of control. Nice reality check. :)
