A Sensational "OMG School Starts Tomorrow" Sunday!
Today was an AMAZING today! It was exactly what Sensational Sundays are all about. Taking control, feeling productive, preparing for the week, spending time with the family and resting. It’s a lot to jam pack in a single 24 hours but totally worth it to set the tone for the week. And we needed it, especially this week.
Tomorrow my little man starts kindergarten. I know every mom says this but… I really can’t believe it. Every day I’m beyond grateful for him. He has changed and effected my life in so many positive ways. Don’t get me wrong he has his moments, remember this little gem? OMG I re-read that laughing out loud. Boy have we have our issues but overall he is a joy to be around. Remember Funderwear day? Or when I recorded us reading Dr. Seuss? And just today he asked if he could go running with me. He really is my ultimate Motivation Turned Workout Partner.
Anyway, let me stop before I get teary. I’ll be shedding enough when I put him on the bus for the first time tomorrow morning. SO… this morning started with a run. I had 9 miles scheduled as per my marathon training but I decided on 8 mid run and shortened my loop.

Chart taken from Nike+ web site after sync. Click here to see how I did it.
I’m really starting to feel the effects of pregnancy on the running. I’m 7 weeks, still super early but according to BabyCenter.com my uterus has doubled in size and I have 10% more blood volume. I’ve also been extra tired and my morning sickness is increasing daily. Of course all of these things effect running. I’ve been taking more and more walk breaks listening to my body and simply doing what feels natural with no pressure or expectation.
After the run, little guy and I did some more Fun Fusion. This is his new obsession. We took a pic the other day of our creations…

He loves these things and they are so fun!
Anyway… soon it was time to hit the grocery store to stock up for the week. We already got our produce loot from the farm on friday…

Someone asked me on twitter how a family of 3 eats all that. Honestly we already made a dent in it. Between taco night, a huge batch of veggie skillet, my veggie omelets, and packing the vegetables for Little Guys first Kindergarten lunch, half the peppers and 2 of the summer squashes are gone. Plus most of the onions, half the tomatoes, a few of the hot peppers and the cilantro. It’s funny but once you integrate the vegetables into your routine, you use way more then you realize. Plus the beauty of the getting a bunch of veggies weekly sort of forces you to figure out ways to use it. Which I find super fun!
The rest of the day was filled with laundry, clean up and even a nap. Little guys clothes are out for tomorrow. His lunch is packed, backpack’s by the door and I’m ready for my first day of work at home, childless. I have so much to do!
I’m off to watch the rest of Mad Men and then it’s bed for me. Oh! and I’m still keeping my food journal. I think it will be fun throughout the pregnancy to see how my appetite increases…

What's Cooking in my kitchen?

I'm LOVING Pinterest! I can just scroll all day long looking at food photo after food photo. I wish I had more time to peruse! (I'm RoniNoone there by the way?) The other day I pinned a Portabello Mushroom pizza and was immediately inspired. It's such a simple idea and so light. [...] -
The other day I found myself craving an Orange Julius. Are they as popular as I think they are? Growing up we had an Orange Julius at our local mall. It was always a treat for us at the end of a family shopping trip. Once I was old enough to be [...] -
So I'm a little breakfast nutty at the moment. Little Bean LOVES eggs and I find myself cooking them more and more. This morning I decided to go super light (after last nights chocolate overload) and it was totally satisfying for just over 100 calories! The trick to making [...] -
A few weeks ago I saw Chef Michael Simon make a raw kale salad on The Chew. He sliced beets up real thin and cut the kale into ribbons. Then made a vinaigrette out of red wine vinegar and olive oil. I was immediately intrigued. So far I've only [...] -
I've had this idea for a quick creamy chicken dish for a few days now. It was time to give it a shot. The whole family LOVED it. I'm not joking. The only complaint came from Little Guy who declared his hate of mushrooms yet again BUT he ate everything around them. Fine [...] -
I made this on a total whim yesterday as I had leftover avocado after feeding the baby and leftover Spaghetti squash cooked from the weekend. I roasted the squash to serve with my Chicken tips instead of potatoes and it was AMAZING! Anyway, I'm getting sidetracked. So I'm sitting there staring [...] -
It's post holiday season. You know what that means? Leftover Crescent rolls to experiment with! Every year for Thanksgiving I buy a few canisters. It's the only time I do as I can't be trusted around them. Let's just say I'd beat you in the How-Many-Crescent-Rolls-Can-You-Eat-In-One-Sitting game and leave [...] -
Last week the kids and I tried parsnips for the first time and I've made them 3 times since. I wanted to figure out the best way to roast them. Yeah, that's it, the best way to roast them. You'll buy that right? Right? The truth is, I'm obsessed. I found myself [...] -
Yesterday just felt like a good day to stuff an acorn squash. I had one sitting on my counter for quite some time and it was just begging to be cooked. Since both husband and child don't like it I made a solo meal just for me and, well, it was DELICIOUS! [...] -
I bought a fennel bulb on a whim for the holidays not knowing quite what I would do with it. Of course I forgot about until yesterday when I was rummaging through the fridge trying to figure out what I wanted to make for breakfast. I pulled it out and stared [...] -
I probably should have warned you I was taking a holiday hiatus. I've been soaking up every moment of family time imaginable these last few days, leaving no time for anything else. Not even blogging! Shocking I know. ;) So I return not with a new recipe, per se, but to [...] -
Here's a quick idea for when you find yourself with a spaghetti squash but don't quite know what to do with it. Come on. Admit it. That's happened to you too. It's sure happened to me! I roasted this squash on Sunday... [...] -
I'm not sure if this will be a crowd pleaser, but I liked it and thought I'd share in hopes it inspires you to have some fun with kale. I loved the combination of sweet pear, earthy kale, salty bacon bits and creamy hummus. The only issue with the wrap was [...] -
I'm going on day 2 of counting Weight Watcher Points and I'm already inspired to come up with light, healthy meals for myself. It's like I needed the constraint of points to motivate me. Isn't that weird? Anyway, all morning I was brainstorming what to make for lunch. I wanted something flavorful [...] -
I have a friend who patiently cleaned, peeled and cubed a fresh pumpkin and then selflessly gave me some. Scratch that, a TON! I would have never even thought of doing something like that! But now that I have it in my fridge the ideas are flowing. First, I roasted some [...] -
CHRISTMAS COOKIES! YAY! Sorry. I'm so excited! Little Guy and I had tons of fun making and decorating cookies today. It may just be my favorite part of the holiday season. I loved it when I was a kid and now I get to do it with my own kids. [...] -
This may be my simplest idea yet, but it was so tasty and satisfying I had to share. Plus you guys know I'm a Laughing Cow Community Leader so I'm all about sharing fun ways to use their products. You guys may also know how I feel about pausing and making [...] -
I made this on Thursday. THURSDAY! I hate when I can't post something I've eaten within 24 hours. It just bugs me. Not sure why, it really doesn't matter when I post it, does it? Anyway, I did whip this up to cure a pizza craving and I couldn't be happier. [...] -
It's been awhile since I jazzed up a tilapia fillet. I've breaded them before, coated them in oats, flavored them like one of my favorite drinks and topped them with a fun salsa. It was time to bring nuts into the party. You are going to think I'm crazy but I've [...] -
Fun leftover turkey idea #2! Click here for leftover turkey idea #1. I had a little Gouda leftover from this years Harvest Salad and decided to put all the same flavors from the salad into a quesadilla. I just can't get enough of the smokey gouda/sweet craisin combo. It goes [...] -
It's the day after Thanksgiving and my refrigerator ROCKS! I have leftover turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, roasted Brussels Sprouts, a bunch of veggies and tons of miscellaneous fun stuff. I've already made stock from the bones (like this) and my first batch of soup, Classic Turkey Noodle. I hope to share [...] -
I'm so sorry I've been slacking in the Thanksgiving recipe department. I feel like a bad food blogger. Everyone else is posting festive ideas and here I've gone missing for a few days. Maybe it's because I'm not doing anything special for Turkey day. I finally got my holiday cooking [...] -
I just made a quick, tasty one pot meal the whole family ate without complaint! And when I say "whole" I mean WHOLE! The Baby, The Little Guy, AND The Picky Eater Husband! Here's the story…I was in NO mood to spend a lot of time on dinner. The thought [...] -
Sunday I made this sandwich on a complete whim. I just bought a bunch of red delicious apples (they were on sale.) I had 2 slices of turkey breast left in the fridge and a few wedges of The Laughing Cow Cheese just waiting to be used. As you guys may [...] -
I bought a bag of kale instead of a bag of spinach this week. My plan was to figure out ways to get this power house vegetable IN me and hopefully IN my family, although unless I hide it, they aren't game. According to NutritionData.com, Kale... [...]

I LOVED the fun fusion when I was a kid. I need to get some for my boys, they would have a blast and also make for super cute christmas presents for family!
And I saw your twitpic on the masses you scored at the farmers market! HOLY SHIZ!!!
I am slowly starting to integrate veggies into foods because my youngest and husband won’t eat veggies. Me and the oldest will eat them, no problem. Your whole wheat pasta pie is the BEST at hiding veggies!!!
Good job on 8mi!!!
Hey Roni, good luck sending Ryan off to school tomorrow! I just sentry my twins last week and I cried like a baby! Just wondering your little guys reaction to the baby news?
Well he’s already expressed an intense interest in me having a boy. :) He’s happy but I’m not sure it sunk in yet. It will once I start showing!
Roni,
I got teary eyed putting my 5th grader on the bus this year.. lol
So it never stops…
Very excited for you , his first day, your pregnancy, your running.. your new work at home. So thrilling! Enjoy all of it.
I work from home and its the most amazing thing. I have lost so many hours stressing on getting to work etc , then trying to fit in everything after that.. but by getting back all those hours it really helps your life so much. So excited for you.
Take care!! :)
aw good luck tomorrow ryan!! and roni I’m sure you’ll be in tears, I was just tearing up thinking about my little one starting kindergarden…and she doesn’t start till next year!
Oh and my husband is about to ban me from reading b/c now i’m getting the baby itch again! I told him our *7 month old* wasn’t a baby anymore lol crazy I know. I miss the baby in my belly feeling and reading my weekly babycenter updates!
You are going to have an awesome day tomm and you get to see your son have a fantastic day at school!
I am putting my youngest of three on the bus for the first time next week. I have not been a crier at these times, but this may be a first for me. We’ll see then. But good luck to Ryan and to his inspiring mom!
I am going to be a teary mess when my little girl first goes to school. I hope the day goes well for you guys!
Impressive veggie load.
I remember when mine started kindergarten. Take lots of pictures! My youngest is now a senior in high school. Time flies by so fast.
Fun Fusion!! I’m suprised they haven’t been outlawed yet! Most of the ‘good’ stuff we had growing up seems to have been! lol. There are probably some still in the floor registers at Mom’s. :)
I envy your veggie pile!
Hope the first day of kindergarten goes well for Ryan! :)
So jealous of your farm LOOT! I love it! :)
Good luck with the first day of school. I send my princess to kindergarten next week, I know I will be a mess.
Hi Roni, Its such a bittersweet mile stone sending our babies off to school. My husband and I just dropped our oldest daughter off at Univ. of Pittsburgh last week. I feel like just yesterday was her first day of Kindergarten. I already miss her so much!! Hope all goes well. Have a great day.
