I was going to save these shots for Wordless Wednesday but I couldn’t wait. I’m just too darn excited! We flew our first kite this evening!

After a little family turbulence–a tired 5 year old on vacation overload can be hard to handle. Sometimes I miss those toddler years– we made it to the beach at the end of the day to try and fly our very first kite. Well, my and the Little guy’s first, the husband says he did it once when we was a kid.

It was SO much fun. Why haven’t I ever done this before? I was always fascinated by the kites on the beach but I never once thought I could do it. This reminds me of other times I wanted to do/try/experience something but didn’t for some reason or another. Too busy? To shy? To insecure? To worried what I’d look like?

Why do we do that to ourselves??

Anyway.. I was pondering that but I don’t want to get too deep. Here’s the pics!

If you are interested the kite we tried is the T-Rex Lear ge Easy Flyer. It was a cinch to put together and Ryan got the kite up on his second try!

Any kite flyers out there? Other newbies? We can’t be the only ones!

  1. These are beautiful fabulous pics and memories!! We’ve flown kites a few times but never super good at it. There’s a great kite festival every year here and some of the professional kite flyers are awesome.

I don’t ever remember flying a kite myself though I think my dad may have done it for me when I was little. Some awesome shots (especially the second and sixth one).

Looks like a ton of fun and I hope you are having a wonderful family vacation (plus that run with Jen just sounded like a blast!).

  3. Colleen says:

Mike always flies kites at the beach – I’ve actually never tried it though.

  4. Looks like you guys had a lot of fun with the kite flying.

When I lived in FL many years ago I had this huge parachute kite I would fly all the time. Ah the joys of living so close to the beach. Now I’m land locked so there isn’t much kite flying for me now. Maybe I need to plan a vacation to the beach :)

Kite flying was my father’s go-to activity whenever we were together for the day in the summer. He even taught me to make one from scratch using boxwood and newspaper (although the homemade ones never did fly as well!). Anyway- what great memories your little guy will have- I sure do and it’s been a looooong time since my Dad and I put up a kite together ;)

Hi Roni! I don’t remember the last time I flew a kite, probably last year, but it looks like you all had so much fun! I love the pictures with the fair and ferris wheel in the background!

I love flying kites. When I was run my mom would get it up and when it came down we would chase the neighborhood trying to find it. We lived near lots of houses and tree.
Wow what fun we had. thanks for the memories.

I’d recognize that boardwalk anywhere! You were right across the bridge from where I grew up (TR)! I love visiting home and running on the SP boardwalk early mornings. Or just grabbing a cup of coffee for a morning walk there – before the crowds flock in. Hope you’re all having a great time!

  16. If I was a good blogger, I would of known that you were on the Jersey Shore …but I sux, I was there for the day – at Bradley Beach. I would of hunted you down. Enjoy yourself, it’s well deserved!
