I want, I need, to go to bed early tonight. Trying to get back to a routine after returning from vacation is proving difficult. Like it or not Monday morning is coming and I really want to start my week with a run before work. I have a 7 mile event on Sunday (I updated my running goals page with June’s event info) that sort of snuck up on me! Regardless it will be fun.

So today started a bit slow or should I say relaxing. I watched a Scooby with Little Guy while writing up my Fennel and Spinach Soup idea. Afterwards I took a bath and finished another chapter in Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang. I’m not the biggest reader. I try but between work, blogs, and family, I just don’t have the time right now. But this book caught my attention at the airport when I was heading to Boston and I’ve been sneaking a chapter here and there ever since. Chelsea totally cracks me up.

Post bath I experimented in the kitchen a bit making a pepperoni pizza puff. It’s not ready for prime time yet. I want to take another stab at it before sharing the idea on GreenLiteBites but here’s a picture.

I haven’t done enough of this lately (playing in the kitchen) and I miss it. I can’t wait to be home during the day just so I can cook!

In the afternoon I headed out to run errands and pick up new pots for our container gardening. I’ve been a bit out of my element in the new house. We don’t have a deck yet and I’m not ready to plant a garden in the back. So I purchased a few large pots and did some solo plants on the front porch.

I’m don’t have the greenest thumb but I’ve learned a lot experimenting over the years. You can read some Lessons I Learned from first ever Ugly Garden over on GreenLiteBites.

This year I went with a tomato plant, a zucchini, some herbs and the toddlers home grown water melon which he started from seed…

We also have a few pepper seeds starting on the windowsill…

Oh and of course, Irish was overseeing this whole operation. :)

All of a sudden it was dinner time. I cooked, made lunches and threw on my running clothes. I’m all ready for tomorrow. Now all I have to do is go to bed but the Next Food Network Star is sucking me in. It’s my far my favorite reality show. :)

Here’s the food journal. Day 2 in counting points a success!

Have you heard of square foot gardening? It has to be the easiest way to garden and takes up like no room. This is my second year at it, last year I was pregnant so things did not go well, this year I have broccoli(3), tomatoes(4), zuccinni, squash, eggplant(2), swish chard lettuce and two kinds of strawberries. The garden takes up very little room and I am even thinking about building another one for some summer fall plantings. Google it and you will get tons of information.

I hate to be selfish. But I am glad you are counting points right now. My pants are the same way and somehow it feels better to be counting points again with someone!! I need to get myself back on track!!

I am also back to counting points, my clothes are tight. Ugh, the summer has to be the worst possible time to be carrying around extra/unwanted pounds. We can do this!!!

I agree with Michelle! I did my first square foot garden this year and it’s been fantastic! I did two 4×4 squares and had 8 tomato plants, 2 bell pepper, 1 cayenne pepper, 2 eggplant, a ton of green beans, cucumbers, parsley, 2 okra plants, as well as squash and zucchini. Imagine getting all that produce (organic) that takes up that little bit of space! You should definitely give it a try.
