One Mom’s Journey from Fat to Skinny to Confident

FOOD JOURNALS

Hellooooo Disney!

We made it! We really made it!

We woke up this morning after a great night of sleep at my Aunt and Uncles house. After chatting for a bit and a bite to eat (a banana and some graham crackers for me) we returned to the open road. Within minutes the little guy and I were reaching for our first snack.

Then the husband needed a pit stop which led to the vending machine. Little guy and Hubby grabbed something and I stuck with some dry cereal I had in the car.

I know. We’re bad. It was only a 2 hour drive.

Anyway, before too long we were pulling into the resort. Just look at the face!

We are staying at the Port Orleans. This is my first experience at a Disney hotel and so far it’s been pretty cool. I’m a little disappointed in the wired pay per use internet but other then that. No complaints.

We immediately checked in, unpacked, put on the suits and HIT THE POOL! I

Then grabbed lunch at the food court.

I ordered a taco chicken salad light on the cheese and no sour cream. It was tasty! And of course I stole 2-3 of the husbands fries AND had a bite (ok a few bites) of the little guy’s pizza.

Afterwards we hit the pool for a little longer and then showered up for Downtown Disney. We had reservations at the Irish Pub (I’d look it up right now but I don’t have internet!)

Of course when we first get there they put the most amazing bread on the table. WHAT is with these restaurants and their amazing bread?! I mean seriously. It was SO GOOD.

I ordered a salmon dish that came on a pile of mashed potatoes which I didn’t expect. Let me tell you.. it was OUT OF THIS WORLD good. The salmon, the potatoes, even the little cherry tomato they used for garnish blew me away.

So between the slice and a half of bread and the salmon dish I was full. It was more then enough food. However… we have the Disney meal plan and we didn’t realize we would get dessert with every meal! Now I know we don’t HAVE to get it but where’s the fun in that?! So we decided to get the best two sounding desserts on the menu and share.

We got some kind of chocolate craziness…

and an apple berry tart…

I’m happy to say we did NOT clean out plates.

We had a few bites of each and went on out merry way. I was still quite stuffed but smitten with myself for leaving half of my mashed potatoes and two half plates of dessert that normally I would have devoured past the point of comfortable fullness.

That was the last ting I ate today and I’m still quite full. Right now it’s 11:30 and I MUST get some sleep. We have a full day planned at Animal Kingdom. I’ll leave you with some random pics from our adventures in Downtown Disney. Until Tomorrow! :)

Was it the Raglan Road Irish Pub? That’s where my husband and I ate when we were there in May. They have the best Bread Pudding! Honestly, I had never even wanted to try Bread Pudding, but the waitress told us it was really good there. It was to die for! My husband and I both think it is one of the best desserts we have ever had anywhere. So, if you go back there, save room for it.

One more thing: we didn’t finish the bread pudding that night, but we had it left over the next morning for breakfast and it was still crazy good cold!

You are making me so excited for our trip to Disney in TEN days!!! Looks like you guys are having a blast. And the pay for it internet is the norm around there I think. It seems like the more expensive the hotel, the more they get you with the little things that you get free at the cheap hotels. Motel 6 = cheap and FREE internet….Sheraton/Westin/any other more than $100 a night hotel = pay for internet. Have fun…enjoy yourselves. I can’t wait for all the family time we will get in TEN days!!!!

Excited for you!! All these years we’ve lived near Disney and still have not been there, except for one Night of Joy, a blooming million years ago. Ha. You are close to us. If you come to Tampa at all you’ll go by our exit in Plant City! How fun is that?
Have a great time, and I pray the weather stays perfect for you all.

We were there last year, and we were very happy with every meal plan. They had good options for the kids and we ate most of our dinners at buffets. They were easier to get into and had good choices for fruit and veg. There was a place in Hollywood Studios where I had the BEST asian salad.

We stayed in the same resort when we were down there in April. If you head over to the other Port Orleans resort (a lovely walk along the canal behind the resort), they have a MUCH healthier breakfast selection. Also, we got two bottles of water with our breakfast on the meal plan and took one with us to the resort so we didn’t have to pay a fortune while we were there. Have fun!

Did you go on the toy story ride? That was the first one we did, we got the fast passes cause they go fast, by 11:00am! Or you get in line real fast! Hope you are having a great time, we just went to Wisconsin and stayed at the Mt Olympus Roman hotel and water park, it was cool!

If you ask, they will let you ride at the front of the monorail. My kids loved it!

They don’t let you ride at the front of the monorail anymore…not since the fatal accident last year.
Bummer too, my kids loved it.

Hi Roni, Looks like you’re having a blast, I just booked Port Orleans for September…can’t wait to hear more feedback…enjoy your trip!

Disney as an adult is totally cool and I’m sure is even cooler with a kid.

Good job on the food control. That looked amazing so I’m impressed.

I am so jealous!! We stayed at the PO-Riverside & walked over to the French Qtr in Nov & both are so nice. I am getting so excited for our next trip in Oct 2011. There are really many healthy options in Disney so you won’t have to completely fall off the wagon but you still have the freedom to enjoy the treats. Besides you will walk ALOT to counteract the calories!! Have fun & please keep posting highlights of your trip so we can live vicariously through you!!!!

I love Disney! Port Orleans French Quarter my family’s favorite place to stay. Have you discovered the walking path to Riverside, makes a great early evening walk. A tip for the Disney meal plan, you get snack credits (one per person per day) they can be used on fruit and anything under $4. We would use our snack credits for breakfast (piece of fruit or a bagel) then eat a larger/earlier lunch.

ooooh DISNEY!!! My favorite place on earth! I hope you have a fabulous time. We ate at Raglan Road last August and loved it. Stayed at Port Orleans a zillion years ago when it was called “Dixie Landing”..it’s lovely there!

Sounds like you’re having a blast! Word of advice on Toy Story Mania at hollywood studios..get there when they open and get your fast pass immediately! Fast passes are all distributed for the day usually by 11am. Great ride though!!
