Wordless Wednesday: Favorite Fresh Snacks

I don’t know why I bother calling these wordless I can’t keep my big mouth shut. This week I’m combining Wordless Wednesday with a Question of the Week that I initially asked on FaceBook. I’m looking for some new snack ideas and I don’t want to go the way of pre-packaged stuff. SO…

What are your favorite FRESH snack to bring with you on the go?

I see you have tomatoes – that is one of my favorites. Also cheese. And I resort to a protein bar in my purse for emergencies. On my recent road trip I brought tons of dehydrated veggies to eat but preferred the fresh. I dried tomatoes, cucumbers and zucchini. Nuts, of course. I am all about packing snacks:)

I do the string cheese thing…almonds…at work I keep a jar of almond butter in the fridge and bring in celery stalks….I make my own dried apple rings with a sprinkle of cinnamon….clementines are one of my most favorite, but I only bring 2 at a time any more and I’d eat them all….cucumbers with homemade taziki dip…

Yeppers those are my go too’s…in my purse I keep a bar of some sort and a couple of mini boxes of raisins…

I love raw almonds, whole fruit, snow peas, and radishes.

I love cinnamon roasted chickpeas, cherries, and sometimes the occasional larabar or something…

Pomegranate seeds and dark chocolate nibs. Or, Annie’s plain yogurt with the blueberry/honey spread cup and some granola. Both amazing for a sweet snack.

My favorite these days is dried fruit (apricots, mango or whatever I can find unsweetened) and 100 calories of almonds (I pre-portion at the beginning of the week)

    Also –

    – bananas

    – string cheese or baby bel cheese (I know, packaged)

    – edamame

    – sliced turkey and apples or pears

Have you ever had dates rolled in coconut? Omg! Wegmans (I know you’re in PA) has them in the organic bulk area…they are friggin delicious

Almonds and a cheese wedge (if it will be eaten soon). We buy a big bag of bulk almonds and that lasts me months and months. SO good though!

Lately I’ve been enjoying sliced apples with light peanut butter (yum :)) or a fruit salad with melon, strawberries and blueberries. In the summer, I really like green beans because they’re so crunchy, and you can pretty much eat them right off the bean stalk!

Aside from the typical fruits, veggies, and nuts…raw green beans are pretty good.

I also freeze cooked chicken and put it in a cooler. By the time snack time rolls around it’s usually defrosted. I don’t mind cold chicken. In fact, for some recipes I like it better.

I guess it depends on how much you can do in your office. My favorite snack is a small can of tuna, it stinks the whole room =) Also, half a ramen noodles packet.

Munch on a serving of cheerios perhaps? Those last forever in a ziploc bag.
Bananas are obvious. 0% powder milk serving… eaten with a spoon, no water LOL Oh! And water + 0% powder milk serving + oats and (YUM!) COCOA POWDER + a tip of instant coffee = heaven!

And since Roni has one, I remembered this: consider buy a magic bullet just for your workplace. Healthy smoothie carnival right in your hands!!!!

Mine are the simple ones… bananas, apples, kiwis, strawberries, small portions of mixed unsalted nuts. I have access to a fridge at work too so I always have some low fat yoghurt in there.

Banana or apple with some unsweetened organic peanut butter is divine too and very filling!!

I’m a big fresh fruit fan, but I also like the occassional serving of nuts or a protein shake with a nice ripe banana mashed into it. Being a major sweettooth I also like to have a granola bar of some sort.

I’m currently addicted to dehydrated apples and pears for on the go. I’m also hooked on a fresh apple with natural peanut butter.

For something that has a bit more protein than just fruit or veggies, I like edamame or some kind of nut – it has staying power!

Mixed dried fruit and soy nuts portioned out in baggies, soy nuts alone!, in my natural food section of my supermarket in the bins they have small 1″x1″ “energy bar bites” in carob and plain flavors, that’s a cool idea. OH, Roni, try creating your own energy bars!! I’d love to see what you come up with on Green Lite Bites!

Okay so I make this makeshift caprese salad (aka tomato and mozzarella salad) but its a throw in a sandwich baggie and go have a snack later kind of deal.

1/2 c halved cherry or grape tomatoes
1 mozzarella cheese stick (I use a low fat kind)
    1/2-1 tsp of olive oil
    1/4 tsp salt
    1/4 tsp pepper
    1/4 tsp dried basil

throw all ingredients into a ziplock baggie and throw in a fridge at work.

Makes a flaverful snack for sure!! yum yum yum :)

1 oz Rosemary and Olive Oil Triscuits and a string cheese :)

Roasted chickpeas, grapes, banana, string cheese, “trail mix” (mixed nuts with a bit of raisins and dark chocolate chips – yum!), orange, red pepper slices…
    Nothing earth-shattering, but all yummy!

Well my suggestion isn’t quite as virtuous as all the other comments. I like a toasted sandwich thin, topped with Smart Squeeze fake butter, cinnamon & splenda, and a squirt of whipped cream. Delicious! A regular chemical fiesta!

I love dried fruit to snack on. I dry it myself with a food dehydrator. So yummy.

Roni – the straweberries look delicious. Some of the strawberries here in Illinois haven’t been the best. Someone suggested buying organic because the ‘regular’ strawberries are so oversized now that they are lacking flavor.

what great ideas! I love pita/hummus, or some black bean dip for work. Ants on a log (celery/pb/raisins), all that fresh fruit, nuts and veggies people have mentioned, and low fat string cheese.
