Yes, it’s Valentines day weekend. Yes, there will be chocolate EVERYWHERE! Yes, the hubz is taking you out to dinner again. Yes, you are going to have a few glasses of wine. Yes, there will be popcorn at the movie and candy in the room.

All of that is OOOOKKKKKKK

Don’t deprive yourself. Eat when hungry. Enjoy the little things and remember… One day can not “ruin your diet” because there is no diet. This is a lifestyle and you are living it! Quite good I might add. Pat yourself on the back for boot camp this morning you totally kicked butt!

Oh! and stop worrying about the running. As soon as the snow melts you’ll find your grove again. You’ve survived long stretches of no running before. You ran a freaking marathon for God’s sake you can do ANYTHING you set your mind to.

Now go enjoy the weekend and stop worrying.

I have missed you, been too busy to enjoy your blog, plus bummed I cannot attend FitBloggin… this is a GREAT “note to self” which is really a note to all of us.. Have a lovely evening with your honey!

I just love your “notes to self” because I usually need to say the exact same thing to myself. It’s not even cold where I live and I’m getting down on myself for not running as much as I was last summer. But I signed up for a half marathon in August so I know I’ll get there!

    Have a great weekend…chocolate and all :-)

  3. Great note, hope you completely enjoyed your Valentines day date.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I lost 5lbs this week…I did a kick boxing class, and I signed up for my first 5k. I really want some cinnamon hearts…..

good pep talk and have fun!

  6. If only more of us could say these things and believe them! Can you imagine treating a friend the way we often treat ourselves? I, for example, am going to forgive myself for eating pizza and vday candy for breakfast and know that tomorrow’s long run will make up for it. :)

    Great post!

Great note to self! I am so hard on myself sometimes, I need to learn to lighten up a bitand remember that worrying doesn’t actually solve anything. Enjoy your weekend….

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I am feeling awful because we are heading out for cocktails this evening…empty calories…my head keeps telling me! BUT….your post reminded me…I ran a 14k race today..finished in 1:24:57…burned a little over 1000 calories…I can have a few cocktails…and be fine!
I agree with some of the other comments…your posts come just when I seem to need them too!
Hope you have a great V-day celebration with your man!

I practically wrote the same post on my blog right before I logged on to see what you were up to. Last night was my 30th bday date with hubby. I decided to 100% enjoy myself, I worked out super hard yesterday morning and wow my abs are sore – and one meal will not defeat me! I had the most amazing rack of lamb… so yummy! And yes we did order dessert. I tried two bites and it wasnt the best thing in the world and passed it on to my hubby to finish off. Really good wine too… and today is back to the grind.

We dont really do the whole Vday thing so no chocolate in my house – very helpful!

I loved this post. I find these notes to self super helpful-both reading them and doing them on my own. Wish I had done this myself before vday.

Great motivational pep talk. I hope it helped a little!

BRAVA! Well said. Even prisoners get time off for good behavior, yet we sometimes feel so guilty about taking a short break from our self-imposed eating regulations. Good grief, if I didn’t think I could ever permit myself to splurge now and then, I’d give it all up.

  17. It’s amazing how people who live thousands of miles apart can have the same things to think about.

  18. Dana says:

Roni – Thank you for being real and not just telling people what they want to hear.

  19. Kelly says:

Great advice! You are so right, changing our habits is a lifestyle, and I don’t think it does any good to set up expectations that are so high we are doomed to fail. If Valentine’s Day is a day where you typically really enjoy chocolate, it’s probably not realistic to swear it off for good. Enjoy a good piece or two of quality chocolate, and then get rid of the rest. Make it dark chocolate for a boost in nutrition. I think the key part to not letting Valentine’s Day become a free for all is to just be honest with ourselves. Allow for a special moment without letting that get us off track!

I began my current journey to lose, what in the end will be a around 260 lbs…yes, I need to lose an entire obese person!!! It can be staggering. Valentine’s Day was tough for me because it was also my daughter’s birthday. I overindulged! I need to find the balance so that I can enjoy a treat every once in a while, but not revert to habits that landed me at a whopping 439 lbs.!!! Your advice is right on! I know that for this to be a successful, life long journey, I have to make a LIFESTYLE CHANGE! BTW, I am 7 weeks into this journey and down 34 lbs.! It’s a start, but still such a long way to go!!!
