Thursday Thoughts – Holiday Gift Ideas
December 3, 2009

I thought it would be fun to put together some holiday gift ideas this year. These are the first few things that popped in my head. Feel free to add some of you favorite products in the comments. I desperately need help in the gift giving department this year!
Kitchen Must Haves
These are things I can’t live without in my kitchen. The food scale being #1… Unfortunately they don’t carry the one I have anymore but I’ve had a few people recommend the one below…
Workout Fun
I finally got a chance to hook up my Wii Fit and I am LOVING it! The whole family had a blast playing over the holiday. We’ve had the Wii sport for awhile. Our favorite, by far, is Tennis but the Wii Fit has opened up a whole bunch of other fun ways to get up and get moving in the living room.
Running Gear
For the seasoned or wannabe runner the combination of these three items is killer. I’m not exaggerating when I say I owe a lot of my running success to the Nike+. It gave me loads of motivation to get me started and keep me running that first year.
Favorite Gadgets
I had to put my new camera on the list… It’s pricey but for those ready to make to take the leap… TOTALLY worth it. I just got that new scale (LOVE it) and I’ve been using a Flip at work (need to get my own.)
Stocking Stuffers
These are by far my favorite headphones, especially for the price. Great idea for a stocking stuffer. And instead of candy go for some fruit leather or margarita mix! You can’t go wrong! Yum! :)
Feeling Charitable?
If you are feeling generous this holiday season I ask you to support Grace’s Gift. Last year we met Grace and her mission to adopt a cottage of kids for the holiday season. Well she’s at it again and needs our help! Click here to see her donation page.

I am currently making 4 batches of cranberry liqueur for Christmas presents. http://www. cookinglight.com/entertaining/holidays-occasions/holiday-cookbook-staff-favorites-00400000030529/page3.html (broken link in case you don’t want live links on here. If you don’t want any links its okay to delete this ;)) I am going to put the liqueur in pretty 375 ml bottles with a recipe for a cosmo. It takes 3 weeks to make so if you put them together today they will be just ready by christmas. For the non-drinkers, maybe some lemon curd with fresh lemons from my tree. I love the fitness ideas, I would love to get some beyond yoga gear now :) Other ideas for a close female friend could be a gift cert. for a bra fitting boutique… maybe a membership to a CSA, My hubby and I make certificates for chores or jobs for his aunt and uncle. Like yard work (uncle is in a wheelchair) or cooking a whole day to fill the freezer with meals so they don’t have to cook they can just heat and eat. I am a fan of making themed baskets. So often you can have a full basket of presents for less than $20-$50 like a throw blanket, candle, old christmas movie, ornament, bottle of wine and a bag of popcorn for a first christmas. Love the list, now I’ve gotta get shopping ;)

Wow the first 4 commenters all began with J! How random!
I love comparing my favs with others! I have a salter food scale and similarly couldn’t live without it. Although I think a good set of knives (I love Shun) is my top priority.
I am hoping to find Nike+ in my stocking this year!

Roni, thank you again for helping my daughter in her desire to share her love and joy this Christmas! You have been such a wonderful influence in my life even though you probably never knew it! I love coming to your sites, reading about your life, and knowing that I am not alone. May blessings and laughter rain down on you and yours this holiday season! God Bless!

I need a new food scale, too. The battery died and then I think I chucked it in the move. :(

Hey Roni. I have been thinking of getting the Nike+….but have not been able to find info on if it works with ALL type of ipods. I saw where it works with the Nano…but I have the bigger one…the 30GB. Do you have any idea?

Mandi – It works with the…
iPod nano, iPod touch (2nd generation), or iPhone 3GS
I have the 30 giger too and bought a nano special for my running. :(

I saw where Wal-Mart will be selling the Wii System for $199, but offering a $50 gift card with the purchase, esentially bringing the price to $150! I believe the offer begins tomorrow. We LOVE the Wii – it’s great family fun and you get a work-out as well!

I was just thinking I needed another muffin cup pan – of course that would mean buying myself a present… does that count?

If you like the Wii Fit then you should try The Biggest Loser for Wii. I just got it last week and it is such a workout plus it’s actually fun.

Is there a nike+ipod option for non-apple computers?
Im so confused about what to get that doesnt cost a fortune – the shoes with the space in it seems so out of my league since im just starting but does something that just goes on the laces work?

Roni – picked up a NIKE+ last year after seeing your comments here on it and I love it! Christina – using the clip on the shoe works as my shoe has no pouch. Even if you are just beginning your running I would purchase this very reasonably priced gadget that motivates me while I am running and after my run when it tells me how far I have gone and how many calories I have burned! It is well worth it! Oh and I don’t have an apple computer and it works!!

christina – You don’t need a MAC for the Nike+

Sorry – submitted too fast! :)
I don’t own the shoes either… just the pouch I have listed above. It gets laced on any show you like. I think it was 6 bucks solo.
Hope that helps!
