It’s been FOREVER since I did some simple multimedia development. With the wide acceptance of blogging and my recent WordPress obsession (recent as in the last 4 years) I seem to have forgotten my roots in the multimedia world.

Does anyone remember Flash? I know we still see it all over the web and there’s all these crazy Flash applications and 3D immersive environments, but sometimes I long for the old days. You know, before Flash become a programming environment and us scripters didn’t have to know object oriented-programing to make a simple interaction.

Don’t get me wrong I love the advancements that have been made in the multimedia world. I think there a lot of high end development options that just didn’t exist back when Authorware and Director were the big boys. But here’s the deal… I have no interest in becoming a full blown programmer.

There, I said it.

It’s true. I just like to make things. Fun little things that may not be efficient or scalable or reusable. They just exist in my little world and that’s ok.

If anyone is interested I can write a little tutorial on how I made my little slide show up there. I built it as a prototype for a simple site at work and it’s super inefficient, un-scalable and fun. :)

Note: All the pictures were taken from my twitpic account. Hmmm this get’s me thinking… wonder if I can automate it to pull the latest pics from the feed. Doh! There I go again.. thinking like a programmer.

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

That is really cool Roni! The best thing I like about that slide show is that it is very clean and professional looking. Could you do a quick video tutorial on that one please? Don’t keep us waiting Roni!! LOL.. :)

Hey Roni! I smiled at this post because … I can so relate! :-) I have a Master’s Degree in IT from Rochester Institute of Technology and one of my big interests was multimedia. I, too, am a scripter with no desire to be a real programmer. Now, really, I am a Web Project Manager and Department Manager ;-)

    I loved your Flashy Flash!

That’s fab Roni! Looks really good and I would love to see a tutorial for it. I can already imagine using something like it on a site I’m working on. I also entirely agree with you on the no interest in being a real programmer thing. I just don’t have it in me. :)

I would love to see the tutorial for this. I especially like that you can pull it from a set in Flickr. I found PictoBrowser the same way that you can use like a mini portfolio by pulling in Flickr photos.

Hey Roni… I know you’re super busy these days but just wondering if you will get a chance at some stage to do the tutorial on the slide show above. I’m just very keen to try it out. I know I should just do some research myself but I never seem to get around to it !!
