A Much Needed Monday

11 Comments 1174 views

Oh how I needed today. No work, no commute, no traffic, no rushing, no eating out, no baked goods or candy. Just me and the little guy playing, cooking, RELAXING.

After some pretty intense play (I’m talking action figures, nerf gun fights, jump rope), we baked. . .

We decided to make an old favorite, Whole Wheat Banana Muffins.

It was nice. Especially since the little guy has been less and less interested in helping me in the kitchen lately. :(

This morning was like old times and nothing makes me happier then to cook something with my son and have him enjoy eating a healthy home cooked meal.

After our late breakfast I decided to take a bath. That’s right a mid day bath and let me tell you, it was all that I thought it could be!

I filled the tube with bubbles, put on a face mask and started to read Twilight, one of my Christmas presents.

Once we were both dressed, the little guy and I headed out to clean the car and hit the grocery store. It was nice to shop for a week where we would be home for most meals and I wouldn’t have to cook after sitting in traffic on my commute home from an 8 hour day at work.

While cooking dinner I squished in a game of Trouble, errr, I mean Scooby Doo Pop ‘N’ Race.

While I finished dinner and snapped photos of The Husband’s New Favorite Chicken with Veggie Couscous, a Nerf battle of epic proportions ensued in the house. Here you’ll see the little guy cocking his weapon while hunting down Daddy. :)

After dinner, we cleaned up and watched, what else, our new Scooby DVD’s. :)

I now sit here watching FoodNetwork and blogging with you. My house is still quite the disaster zone but I made progress by cleaning the car and stocking my fridge. Tomorrow is house and laundry, not to mention another day of cooking and eating food at home. It makes me smile just thinking about it. :)

Here’s the food journal today. I didn’t eat much but I wasn’t that hungry. I think my body was in shock from all the smidgens yesterday (if you don’t know what I speak of don’t ask… you REALLY don’t want to know. :)

Ohhh Twilight….I was a totally Twilight Saga junkie while I was reading the books and I act like a school girl for the movies. Going so far as to pound beers in the parking lot with my girlfriends at 11:30pm waiting for the midnight showing of New Moon and I’m almost 30. Wait…did I just admit that out loud? Totally did. :)

I’m glad you got a restful, happy Monday. You totally deserve it! :)

I’m still full from all the food I’ve eaten as well! Tomorrow I’m on the same schedule as you, cleaning and laundry. I’m actually pretty excited about getting back on track with everything. I’m also organizing my menu for my New Years party and thinking of trying some of your appetizer recipes. Any advice on how to make it through one more week of parties? Happy New Year and enjoy your week!

Janine – One day at a time! It sounds like you are throwing the party, correct? Have lots of fresh veggies, hummus, fruit, things like that.

For me having a day like yesterday keeps me going. Remember it’s all about balance so indulge at the parties and eat lighter at home. :)

I keep telling myself… It will all be over soon. lol

Roni – we are on the same course…I spent the week before Christmas working, shopping, attending parties, concerts, etc, etc…oh and the eating! I spent yesterday slowly getting the house back to normal and also did some laundry and then grocery shopped. It was so nice to eat a home-cooked meal at home as a family! I actually stayed in track pants all day! No make up and no styling my hair! It is so necessary I think. Hope you enjoy your days off with your young man. Recharging is so important. All the best…Tanya

I went through the house and threw out all the smidgens and ice cream and left over au gratin potatoes made with whole milk and all that goodness. There’s a reason that stuff doesn’t exist in this house.

Looks like you guys had a great day yesterday!!

Looks like you had a great day with your son! Lots of action and I’m sure you burned quite a few calories chasing him around with the Nerf gun. We got my middle son a Nerf gun similar that actually comes apart like a long range sniper gun. He and my oldest boy have been terrorizing the cats from behind chairs and benches. Lots of fun! :)

Roni, that sounds like an awesome day. I am so inspired by how much you interact with your son, and seem to have so many sweet and memorable moments with him. I’m sure his interest in cooking will wax and wane, but in the end he is going to be a great and healthy cook. I’m sure you are so so pleased. You are doing a great job with him, and your family life looks to be wonderful, every day.

It’s always so fun cooking with the people you love. I don’t have a son (and not planning to have one any time soon) but I love cooking and baking with my significant other. We always come up with the most delicious food.
