20 Snack Ideas, 1 Bacon Joke and Creepy Spider Chatter
I LOVE the internet. I always have, even way back when when browsers didn’t even have graphics! (Yes I really surfed the web on that and no I’m not *that* old.)
Beyond just the good old fashion internet and world wide web, social media has made online time even more fun, more interesting, and more useful (to me anyway). Just look at what happens when you post a picture of a creepy looking spider in your garage… (I blurred out names as I didn’t have anyones permission to repost)

That was only facebook. I also had a few discussion on twitter about it too. Who would have thunk such a bad picture of a spider would start so much chatter?
Yesterday I decided to use the power of social media to gather ideas about afternoon snacks. I always bring a small lunch and 3-4 healthy snacks to pick on while at work during the day. But lately I’ve been in a rut eating the same old things.
So I tweeted/posted this on…
I’m thinking it’s just about yogurt/water break time here at work. What’s you fav after lunch healthy snack?
Here’s what I got in return on twitter…
@LauraWV said: @RoniNoone An apple, eaten slowly and relished, at around 2. At around 4, either Triscuits or Nature Valley bar.
@WannaBeSkinny said: @RoniNoone I have to make it something sweet to kill sweets craving.
@IamSucceeding said: @RoniNoone I LOVE my popcorn…have it most days, usually if I am catching up on shows, drizzle it w/healthy oil a bit of seasalt mmmm
@webgals said: @RoniNoone honeycrisp apple
@MrsTLaw said: @RoniNoone I’ve been loving those Dole fruit cups…like 80 calories. I got sick of buying fruit and it going bad before I ate them!
@polestarjewelry said: @RoniNoone almonds.
And of course the smart a$$ said..
@babymakes7 said: http://twitpic.com/n613r – @RoniNoone My fav healthy (see the no cholesterol & low sodium?) snack: bacon pieces sprinkled with bacon salt.
lol Gotta love the smart a$$es. :)
And from Facebook…

So there you have it, 20 snack ideas (minus some duplicates), one bacon joke and some creepy spider chatter. :)
Gotta love the internet!

I'm LOVING Pinterest! I can just scroll all day long looking at food photo after food photo. I wish I had more time to peruse! (I'm RoniNoone there by the way?) The other day I pinned a Portabello Mushroom pizza and was immediately inspired. It's such a simple idea and so light. [...] -
The other day I found myself craving an Orange Julius. Are they as popular as I think they are? Growing up we had an Orange Julius at our local mall. It was always a treat for us at the end of a family shopping trip. Once I was old enough to be [...] -
So I'm a little breakfast nutty at the moment. Little Bean LOVES eggs and I find myself cooking them more and more. This morning I decided to go super light (after last nights chocolate overload) and it was totally satisfying for just over 100 calories! The trick to making [...] -
A few weeks ago I saw Chef Michael Simon make a raw kale salad on The Chew. He sliced beets up real thin and cut the kale into ribbons. Then made a vinaigrette out of red wine vinegar and olive oil. I was immediately intrigued. So far I've only [...] -
I've had this idea for a quick creamy chicken dish for a few days now. It was time to give it a shot. The whole family LOVED it. I'm not joking. The only complaint came from Little Guy who declared his hate of mushrooms yet again BUT he ate everything around them. Fine [...] -
I made this on a total whim yesterday as I had leftover avocado after feeding the baby and leftover Spaghetti squash cooked from the weekend. I roasted the squash to serve with my Chicken tips instead of potatoes and it was AMAZING! Anyway, I'm getting sidetracked. So I'm sitting there staring [...] -
It's post holiday season. You know what that means? Leftover Crescent rolls to experiment with! Every year for Thanksgiving I buy a few canisters. It's the only time I do as I can't be trusted around them. Let's just say I'd beat you in the How-Many-Crescent-Rolls-Can-You-Eat-In-One-Sitting game and leave [...] -
Last week the kids and I tried parsnips for the first time and I've made them 3 times since. I wanted to figure out the best way to roast them. Yeah, that's it, the best way to roast them. You'll buy that right? Right? The truth is, I'm obsessed. I found myself [...] -
Yesterday just felt like a good day to stuff an acorn squash. I had one sitting on my counter for quite some time and it was just begging to be cooked. Since both husband and child don't like it I made a solo meal just for me and, well, it was DELICIOUS! [...] -
I bought a fennel bulb on a whim for the holidays not knowing quite what I would do with it. Of course I forgot about until yesterday when I was rummaging through the fridge trying to figure out what I wanted to make for breakfast. I pulled it out and stared [...] -
I probably should have warned you I was taking a holiday hiatus. I've been soaking up every moment of family time imaginable these last few days, leaving no time for anything else. Not even blogging! Shocking I know. ;) So I return not with a new recipe, per se, but to [...] -
Here's a quick idea for when you find yourself with a spaghetti squash but don't quite know what to do with it. Come on. Admit it. That's happened to you too. It's sure happened to me! I roasted this squash on Sunday... [...] -
I'm not sure if this will be a crowd pleaser, but I liked it and thought I'd share in hopes it inspires you to have some fun with kale. I loved the combination of sweet pear, earthy kale, salty bacon bits and creamy hummus. The only issue with the wrap was [...] -
I'm going on day 2 of counting Weight Watcher Points and I'm already inspired to come up with light, healthy meals for myself. It's like I needed the constraint of points to motivate me. Isn't that weird? Anyway, all morning I was brainstorming what to make for lunch. I wanted something flavorful [...] -
I have a friend who patiently cleaned, peeled and cubed a fresh pumpkin and then selflessly gave me some. Scratch that, a TON! I would have never even thought of doing something like that! But now that I have it in my fridge the ideas are flowing. First, I roasted some [...] -
CHRISTMAS COOKIES! YAY! Sorry. I'm so excited! Little Guy and I had tons of fun making and decorating cookies today. It may just be my favorite part of the holiday season. I loved it when I was a kid and now I get to do it with my own kids. [...] -
This may be my simplest idea yet, but it was so tasty and satisfying I had to share. Plus you guys know I'm a Laughing Cow Community Leader so I'm all about sharing fun ways to use their products. You guys may also know how I feel about pausing and making [...] -
I made this on Thursday. THURSDAY! I hate when I can't post something I've eaten within 24 hours. It just bugs me. Not sure why, it really doesn't matter when I post it, does it? Anyway, I did whip this up to cure a pizza craving and I couldn't be happier. [...] -
It's been awhile since I jazzed up a tilapia fillet. I've breaded them before, coated them in oats, flavored them like one of my favorite drinks and topped them with a fun salsa. It was time to bring nuts into the party. You are going to think I'm crazy but I've [...] -
Fun leftover turkey idea #2! Click here for leftover turkey idea #1. I had a little Gouda leftover from this years Harvest Salad and decided to put all the same flavors from the salad into a quesadilla. I just can't get enough of the smokey gouda/sweet craisin combo. It goes [...] -
It's the day after Thanksgiving and my refrigerator ROCKS! I have leftover turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, roasted Brussels Sprouts, a bunch of veggies and tons of miscellaneous fun stuff. I've already made stock from the bones (like this) and my first batch of soup, Classic Turkey Noodle. I hope to share [...] -
I'm so sorry I've been slacking in the Thanksgiving recipe department. I feel like a bad food blogger. Everyone else is posting festive ideas and here I've gone missing for a few days. Maybe it's because I'm not doing anything special for Turkey day. I finally got my holiday cooking [...] -
I just made a quick, tasty one pot meal the whole family ate without complaint! And when I say "whole" I mean WHOLE! The Baby, The Little Guy, AND The Picky Eater Husband! Here's the story…I was in NO mood to spend a lot of time on dinner. The thought [...] -
Sunday I made this sandwich on a complete whim. I just bought a bunch of red delicious apples (they were on sale.) I had 2 slices of turkey breast left in the fridge and a few wedges of The Laughing Cow Cheese just waiting to be used. As you guys may [...] -
I bought a bag of kale instead of a bag of spinach this week. My plan was to figure out ways to get this power house vegetable IN me and hopefully IN my family, although unless I hide it, they aren't game. According to NutritionData.com, Kale... [...]

I loved reading the spider chat on FB. I love the social media now. Especially to keep up with friends from the past.
Loving you more and more everyday. I too surfed the net pre-graphics. Designed web pages when every background was grey and you dialed in on your 2400baud modem.
Remember when? You emailed Jerry to get a page on Yahoo! Social networking was a party arranged by email? You chatted on IRC?
Social media is may be one of my favorite things. But you’re climbing the list as one of my favorite tweeters.
Now, if you haven’t already, could you post about healthy snacks that hold up for preschoolers? I need something besides bars, bananas and gummies for my fussy 2-year-old to eat in the car.
I remember pre-image web surfing too… we had it in my school, and we were written up all over the chicagoland newspapers (on PAPER) because it was so revolutionary. We got to send emails to kids in the Faulkland islands!
I love doing stuff like that. It helps to not have to think about it all on my own because I end up with the same things.
Also I find it funny what people actually post too. Sometimes its the most random of stuff like your spider.
Great responses! Man that looked like a HUGE spider! NASTY! At least it was in the garage! lol
I love the internet too! I love how you can find out about ANYTHING on the internet! What did people do before it? How did they plan trips? Pick what college they wanted to go to? Diagnose their own illnesses? Find out if Native Americans ate lobsters? (Yes, that’s the last thing I remember looking up)
AH! My hot dog, candy bar, and diet soda comment made it! What an embarrasingly true moment haha. I ♥ the internet too.
I’m convinced that if it wasn’t for the internet I wouldn’t have started this healthy living journey. It’s just easy to access any kind of information… Fitness, nutrition.. Love it. :)
I was happy to see all the healthy snack ideas and then Tiger’s – which is what most people think of. Man, it’s not easy to end bad habits. My favorite snack has to be apple and peanut butter.
Lisa
I surfed the Net when it didn’t have graphics too! My how far we’ve come… Thanks for the snack ideas! Glad you got a kick out of our spider comments. I still get grossed out thinking about! Our creepy crawler has disappeared… I hope he’s not INSIDE our house! If he is, I’ll be sure to show you on Facebook LOL.
I love the gnu bars, or drinking a protein drink (the ZOIC ones are the best in terms of protein/calories), sugar-free jello (and have heard a suggestion before of using unflavored gelatin mixed with tea, for even healthier jello snacks), air popped popcorn, fruits…
My new favorite snack is 1/2 c cup nonfat greek yogurt and 1 TBSP pumpkin butter mixed together. I get both at Trader Joes, and YUM. It is delicious and hits my seasonal food craving (read: keeps me away from pumpkin scones and pumpkin cheesecake). It’s a wonderful snack, only 100 calories, but 11 grams of protein!
I haven’t yet gotten into Twitter. I don’t really get it and haven’t bothered to learn. Maybe it’s time to branch out. :) P.S. I’m giving away two breast cancer awareness prize packs on my blog: http://lovinlosing.com/.
thanks for sharing all those ideas!! i especially love the red wine one, buttt i think for my snack i’m going to choose the apple!
I seriously don’t know what people did without the internet – it’s unbelievable!! I love hard-boiled eggs for a snack:)
I’m here to report that I actually ate wasa crackers and laughing cow for a snack today and not food from a convenience store.
LMAO
On a serious note thanks for reminding me of wasa crackers! I always forget about those things!
I love apple and peanut butter too, but I also add a slice of cheddar cheese. Strange I know, but I grew up with a hippy mom in VT, so that’s going to be my excuse for today.
Also my new favorite find for when I am late? Justin’s Nut Butter single packs. I’ve found then at REI and Whole Foods but you can also get them on line in 10 packs. Best – oh crap I’m late what should I grab so I don’t eat junk – EVAH!! (no I am not affiliated :)

Comin’ late to the party here, but . . . um, I still use Lynx from time to time. It’s a great way to bare-bones test site functionality. To me, Mosaic is the browser that feels like looking back to the dawn of time:

Speaking of the dawn of time, check out Microsoft’s web site a mere 15 years ago. Powered by three, count ‘em, three web servers.

It’s really easy to forget how far we’ve come in such a short, short amount of time.
