What a Weekend!
August 23, 2009
I needed a weekend like this. It was busy, productive, fun and relaxing all at the same time. It all started Saturday morning with a 10 mile run. With everything that’s been going on I haven’t run or worked out in a over a week and my marathon training has suffered, big time. I’m not freaking out but I am a little disappointed. That 10 miles was REALLY HARD. I mean, really, extremely difficult for me. I had to stop and walk multiple times which I rarely do.
It’s really not a big deal. I’m just simply amazed at how fast you can loose your running momentum. I have to look at my training realistically over the next few weeks. The marathon is October 10. I want to be able to run 2 - 40 mile weeks before then. I’ve talked to quite a few runners and that seems to be a common goal.
All I can do is do what I can do. Does that make sense? :) There’s no sense in beating myself up or trying to be perfect. I’ll run when I can run and I’ll do the best I can. And when Oct 10 rolls around I’ll have fun. That’s what it’s all about.
OK, back to this weekend. After the run I FINALLY straighten up this apartment. Although you can’t tell now. :) I spent time just getting myself somewhat organized before the whole family went out to run some errands.
We hit the bank, the post office, the rental office. It was awesome just getting all these little nagging things done that have been hanging over our heads. We also checked out the new house (outside looks the same but they are making progress inside–floors, appliances, things like that) we starting looking at paint colors and furniture for the little guy’s room.
After all that running around we came home and cooked dinner! Which I’m very pound of because it would have been super easy to just go out. But we didn’t. Instead I came home and made Ham and Sweet Potato Skillet. Which was TOTALLY yummy and I’m psyched for leftovers tomorrow at lunch. :)
Saturday ended with the husband and I watching episodes of Sons of Anarchy. He really likes the show and I have to admit, now I’m hooked. We watched the whole first season this weekend. All while I worked on my little side project, RoniNoone.com. I felt the need to have a home base, so to speak. I’ve been toying with this idea for quite some time and I’m glad I got it up.
After a good night sleep the kid actually let me sleep in until almost 8:30AM this morning! I haven’t slept that late in months, maybe YEARS! lol It was a great morning as the whole family, including the husband, had breakfast together. Then we got ready for the zoo!
Nothing beats a 4 year old at the zoo. Everything is new. Everything is exciting. It was awesome. We walked for 3 hours straight hitting every habitat. Let me tell you my body is sore. But all the walking felt great after the long run. For me, nothing beats a walk, I’ve always enjoyed a good stroll.
Even though we were completely exhausted after the zoo, we decided to take a detour to the running store on our way home. I’ve been wanting to get measured for new sneaks as these long runs are reeking havoc on my feet. I’m just full of blisters.
In a half an hour the wonderful people at the Falls Road running store identified what was wrong with my current shoe, measured me, and picked out the most awesome sneaks. As I tried each one on and trotted through the parking lot I fell in love with a pair of Mizunos. I can’t wait to try them on a run tomorrow morning.
Once we got home from our day out and about the toddler and I–CRAP! he’s not a toddler anymore but you know what I mean–recorded a video for GreenLiteBites. We tried some Sweet Tamarind. It was tasty but weird. You’ll see. :)
The rest of our Sunday night was filled with baths, lunch making, clean up and tortilla pizza for dinner. Right now I’m watching Mad Men with the husband and a full belly. I snacked a wee bit too much on Dorritos and a 3 musketeer bar. Don’t ask.
Now I’m off… Gonna put my running clothes on so I have no excuses tomorrow morning. ;)

Long runs really can suck after not running. But Ilove your attitude about the training and the race. You can’t do what you can’t do, right?
You sweet tamarind video was great and cute. So fun to watch. I’m glad you are feeling upbeat and your hair looks so cute too :-)

Wow! You are like Wonder Woman!! How did you put together your marathon training? I am considering a 1/2 marathon, but need some training insight.

Hi Roni
Did my first triathlon last weekend. Thanks for inspiring me! I am not a runner and haven’t run a mile since the meanie Gym teacher made me in high school. I was really dreading the run part but shockingly the run was the easiest part.

I love how you said you can only do what you can do. Sometimes when I set a goal like my upcomiong 5k I feel like I am going to fail if I am not 1 million % ready. My new motto is going to be I can only do what I can do!
Thanks for the outlook :)

I have dreams of someday running in a marathon…good for you!! And getting the rights sneaks is a great idea! I unfortunately found out the hard way that worn-out shoes can really do some damage to your legs…I got tibial tendonitis after a few weeks of running and jumping on the EA Active for Wii.
Keep it up, girl!
