Weekend Quote: Just Do It.
August 21, 2009
I needed to find this quote tonight….
“The whole idea of motivation is a trap. Forget motivation. Just do it. Exercise, lose weight, test your blood sugar, or whatever. Do it without motivation. And then, guess what? After you start doing the thing, that’s when the motivation comes and makes it easy for you to keep on doing it.” - John Maxwell
I needed it as I prepare for a nice long run tomorrow morning. I have less then 8 weeks until the marathon… the FULL marathon. I’m freaking out a teensy weensy bit but I’m also looking forward to it. I just need to get out and DO IT. :)

You’ll do great. Just keep thinking “light as a feather”. It’s because of you that I’m doing the Marine Corps Marathon in October — thank you for reminding me that I can do it - I did the 1/2 and I can do the full. And SO CAN YOU! Good luck!

This also reminded me of another quote: “Do or do not, there is no try,” Yoda :)

One of my favorite, and often needed, phrases:
“Motivation comes after the action.”
We often think/want it to work the other way around, but it rarely does.

Just do it sounds real good to me. I have a race on Sunday morning myself. Just a 10k, but I have never done a 10k race. I have done a 5k and a 5 mile race though. I know I can do the distance, but my pace is what is worring me. I have been real slow now for about 3 weeks. After giving blood you are shot for about 2 weeks. No excuses though. It has been three weeks now and I need to… just do it as well. I am up early myself today. Which means tonight I will get to bed early and well rested let’s see what I can do, right?
Roni good luck with your run today. Here is another good quote for you:
“No stream or gas drives anything until it is confined. No Niagara is ever turned into light and power until it is tunneled. No life ever grows great until it is focused, dedicated and disciplined.”
~Harry E. Fosdick

Great quote! I can definitely relate - sometimes I don’t feel like going for a run AT ALL! But, I just do it with the caveat that I’ll just go for 20 minutes. I usually find that I get into a groove which motivates me to keep going longer. Then, I feel like I don’t want to stop! LOL!
Good luck today, Roni! You’ve been through a lot this week - thinking of you:)

I totally agree with that quote. Don’t you find when you start a diet that you do need to just get the ball rolling in order to keep going? Or whenever you start any project really. Cleaning the house, for example. Ha ha

I love that! I needed to hear that with the lack of motivation I’ve had lately to measure and eat better.
And to the commenter with the Yoda quote…That is awesome!

Hey Roni - I just wanted to leave you a note that I made your pasta pie recipe the other night (in a 8×8 glass dish instead of the spring pan) and loved it!!
And the best part is - even my hubs, who I think has similar eating habits to yours, loved it too! :)

This is so true! Motivation doesn’t come until you do it and start seeing and feeling the difference! Just do it Roni! ! !
