Weekend Quote: Always Another Chance
August 8, 2009
If you have made mistakes, there is always another chance for you. You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call "failure" is not the falling down, but the staying down. -Mary Pickford
I needed to find this quote after my day of cookies, candy, milk shakes, fries and chicken fingers. I feel… bleh,
I know one day is one day, now. But I also remember a time when I would consider a day like today a "failure. The difference between the me now and the me then is now I refuse to "stay down".

My friend and I were just talking about that very thing today. We both had a horrible July in that we didn’t lose any weight at all. I was telling her about how in the past that sort of thing would have sent me over the cliff and I would be unable to press on. Now though? It isn’t even a thing. I am not going to ever be perfect. I will screw up. I don’t have to stay down and for the fist time I no longer do.

This is a quote from the book ‘You Can Heal Your Life’ by Louise Hay…I love it. ‘That is your past. It is over and done with. What is important in this moment is what you are choosing to think and believe and say right now. For these thoughts and words will create your future’. Don’t punish yourself for it. Move on. This about the present moment and make good decisions. It was one night and you know what I had the same thing happen to my yesterday. I read this passage in the book and started to cry. I have spent my WHOLE entire life punishing myself for the past. NEVER enjoying most meals I eat and eating most of the time for the wrong reason. The beauty of life is most of it is based in thoughts. Positive thinking equal positive results. Be gentle Roni on yourself. You are beautiful, capable, reaching millions of people, and you have a brand new day in front of you. So what are you gonna do with it? Enjoy!

I love that quote. I needed to see that because yesterday was not a good day and I need to make a change. Here’s my new start today! Thanks :-)

Great quote, so true! I also love the “refuse to stay down!” That is the right attitude.
My inspiration for refusing to fail is the You-turn mantra (GPS analogy) from Dr. Oz’s book You on a Diet–great stuff!! Instead of waiting to turn things around and make a new start tomorrow or Monday, you make a You-turn immediately. This has helped me get on track countless times.

Great post! It’s so true… One day can easily turn into a whole month. Each day brings a new chance. Thanks!

This was one of the most important things I learned too. Before I finally lost all my weight a day of eating things I knew I shouldn’t would have sent me right back to the pantry for more!
But, as I lost the weight, I realized that every minute of the day is a chance to start again.

I will so use the “You-turn” theory. I have had a month like that – lots of company of three birthdays in the group. Special treats because the kids are home from college … But there is a fridge full of fresh fruits and veggies and I can make a You turn and make the next month all about getting back to me.

I just read that quote after eating a few too many treats from the catering today. I had in my head the thought, “Just one more – I’ve already fallen today”, but I kicked that thought out. Now I’m reminding myself that starting now I don’t need that stuff. One should have been enough and even though I had too many, that doesn’t mean I have to eat the whole dessert tray!
I love the You-turn theory – I should reread that book because I thought it was a real eye opener.
