Let the Challenge Begin!
A couple of days ago I wrote this post on BlogToLose moments after chatting on twitter. It couldn’t wait. I don’t care that I’m busy OR in living in a temporary apartment OR organizing a conference. When will I not be busy? Why wait? There will never be a "perfect" time. Right? RIGHT?? :)
All joking aside I’ve been super busy and I haven’t been able to make the gym or do any form of weight training. I can barely squish my runs in. I’ve also been feeling overwhelmed, out of control and fat (for lack of a better term.)
So instead of sulking and feeling sorry for myself I’ve decided to DO something. Tonight I took the initial tests for those three training programs I think are awesome! No equipment, any fitness level and best of all, NO excuses. So who’s with me? I’m starting all three Sunday (they suggest waiting a few days after the initial test.)
Here’s the result of my test…
100 Pushups: Initial Test
Rank: 3 – 18 push ups
200 Squats: Initial Test
Rank: Excellent – 75 (I have to admit I got bored but MAN my legs were on FIRE afterwards.)
200 Sit-Ups: Initial Test
Rank: Poor – 35 (started crampy)
So what say you? Join me? Post your progress on your blog? Don’t have a blog? Consider signing up on BlogToLose… THIS is what it’s all about…accountability, support and community.
ok, now I need sleep. :) Leave a comment to your blog post if you are joining in on the challenge!

What's Cooking in my kitchen?

Finally my first Farro idea! I have to say, I love this stuff! It's chewy and yummy and, well, fun! I tossed it with what I could find in my pantry and it made a wonderfully satisfying lunch. Filling but not heavy, tasty and quite nutrient dense. According to NutritionData.com this [...] -
I've seen it mentioned in a few of my clean eating and healthy cook books but honestly, I never even thought of Farro as an option for me. I refuse to shop at specialty stores and I try to use only common products that I can keep in stock and purchase from a typical grocery [...] -
I've never had a tuna melt. Is that weird? I guess that's what happens when you grow up not liking mayonnaise. I never ate tuna salad or egg salad or chicken salad. Honestly, they always kind of grossed me out. Then I realized.. hey.. why does tuna salad have [...] -
I have no idea where this idea came from. I was hungry. It was lunch. I had Brussels Sprouts. That was all the catalyst I needed.:) I decided to use a slice of real bacon to add flavor and little fat that would help sauté the sprouts. I'm trying [...] -
WOW was this good. I mean seriously good. It's not vegetarian so don't start throwing stones. I'm calling it a Garden Vegetable Burger because I use the new Laughing Cow Smooth Sensations Garden Vegetable Cream Cheese Spread. It was this recipe on Allrecipes.com that inspired [...] -
I drink water 99.9% of the time but every so often it just doesn't cut it. I want something else. Something more. Something slightly sweet. Today was one of those days. I decided to make a refreshing drink based on the famous Arnold Palmer, half lemonade and half iced [...] -
The other day I made a whole chicken on the grill in pieces. It was delicious! Just a little BBQ sauce and an open flame is all I need to make The Husband happy in the dinner department. I also picked up a few ears of corn from the grocery store. They aren't in season [...] -
Let me explain so you don't think I'm making a chili recipe and just put it on pizza. I'm calling this vegetarian Chili Pizza because chili is what inspired flavors. I think I told you. Little Bean is really into, well, BEANS! We go through a can about every 2 days. Yesterday [...] -
I've confessed my inability to follow recipes here on GreenLiteBites many, many times. I don't know why it's so hard for me. I can barely follow some of my own and I wrote the darn things! I think most of my problem stems from not having all the ingredients listed and, [...] -
Leftover brown rice and leftover sauce meet in this quick lunch idea inspired by my favorite food of all time: Pizza. I swear I can turn anything into a pizza concoction. Have you seen all my pizza ideas? I've used everything from pumpkin to zucchini, polenta to wontons. Nothing is off [...] -
This isn't a recipe just an idea I had to share. I can't believe how good it was! I've never had grilled pineapple. Can you believe it? I just never really had the desire to grill it before. When you love something raw sometimes it doesn't occur to you to cook it. [...] -
I whipped this up for lunch on a whim today because, well, I have a baby who's obsessed with three things… Cheese, Beans, and Avocado. No, really. Look... It's my go to meal for him so I find myself with beans and avocado readily available. [...] -
You know that tradition 7 Layer Mexican Dip? The one with the cream cheese, guacamole, salsa, lettuce, cheese, green onion and olives? Yea. That's the one. Well I had a craving for it the other day. Well, not exactly for it as I can never make anything the way it's suppose [...] -
If you go through the archives of GreenLiteBites I have about 5 total beef recipes. Five. Compare that to the 80+ I have tagged with chicken/turkey there's a clear winner in the meat department on my blog and in my home. I don't have a beef with beef (omg The Husband [...] -
I'm a kitchen sink smoothie maker. Whatever I have on hand goes in the blender and viola! A quick breakfast or a healthy snack. Last year I posted an "Elastic Approach" to how I make smoothies but I still like to share specific combinations that worked really well. This was one [...] -
The other night it was just the kids and I home for dinner and I decided to make what I wanted to make no holds barred. Without The Husband home it's much easier for some reason. Hmmm wonder why? Ok, not here to husband bash.. really.. I'm not! I'm here [...] -
*sigh* I was really hoping to share an awesome turkey burger idea. I had grand plans for my leftover ground turkey. The results was alright but they could have been so much better. I added diced pineapple, red pepper, green pepper, oats and soy sauce to the meat and formed 2 patties. In hindsight I [...] -
I made this on a total whim yesterday having no idea if it would work. To my surprise it did AND the husband actually said he liked it... UNSOLICITED! Here's the story. I had only 4 tilapia fillets defrosted for dinner. I knew it wasn't going to be enough for us [...] -
This is a slight reboot of a recipe I posted last year simply called Sweet Potato and Black Bean Chili. Staying true to my use-what-I-have-on-hand roots I, well, used what I had on hand and made a similar dish with a spicy twist. Topping the result with avocado added a cool creaminess that [...] -
Did you hear? The Laughing Cow recently launched Smooth Sensations a line of 5 cream cheese spreads. There's Classic Cream, Classic Cream Light, Strawberries & Cream, Garden Vegetable and my favorite… Cinnamon. It's a sweet wedge of creamy goodness! Today I decided to use my new favorite flavor [...] -
Confession time, I recorded a 30 minute video making this with both kids (partally) 2 nights ago. I miss videos. I really do but they seem so much more difficult with 2 children. I'm also having technical difficulties with my video recording and audio syncing making it VERY time consuming to edit. [...] -
A couple of years ago I shared a modified version of Sloppy Joe's I made for a party. Everyone loved it but I've been wanting to try to make something similar for the family on a smaller scale and without the pre-made canned Manwich sauce. I don't particularly have any issues [...] -
Yesterday I was dreaming about a salad. Not just any salad, but a chickpea filled, cucumber, and red onion salad with a fun, tangy dressing. Unfortunately, I had no cucumber or red onion. Well, that's a lie. I had a half of cucumber but it was a mushy mess and [...] -
Dinner meals are getting harder and harder for me to share lately. I've gone back to just whipping things up without really measuring anything (this meal was going to be one of those until I realized I still had enough light to take some photos.) I've also instituted a few brainless meal nights [...] -
Three years ago I posted a video called "Makin' Hard Boiled Eggs" where I shared my system for, well... making hard boiled eggs. Genius name, I know. I'm smart like that. Anyway, since then I've gotten tons of feedback and comments thanking me but all the information is locked in a long winded 10 minute [...]

You are doing all three? I feel like such a slacker now! Hehehe.
Ok, so push ups I assume are traditional on your toes kind, not modified, yes? Are the squats weighted or just plain squats (youre talking to a Les Mills Body Pump person, 200 squats is my middle name,LOL!) and when you say sit ups, you mean old school sit ups, not crunches? Cool idea, thanks!
Oh, what a great idea! If I hadn’t just worn myself out with a Jillian Michaels video, I would do my test right now. Tomorrow!
I’ll try these over the weekend. You are amazing!
Christine – If you click to each site they define and describe how to do each one correctly but yes.. pushups are the traditional “boy” ones, squats are good old fashion ones (adding weight is a great idea!) and the situps are actually more like a crunch. The trainer/site says not to go past 35 degrees. .
Hope you join us! :)
Mary – You SLACKER! lol Only kidding… In all seriousness… I’m only doing all 3 to make up for lack of other workouts… I figure it give me a well rounded thing… arms, legs, core. Besides running this is all I’ll be doing for the next month or so. :)
Way to go! I’m in the middle of a yoga challenge (that I made up myself) right now, but I need to take on this one next, I think. :)
OO Roni this is just what I need I am finally getting back on the WW saddle – and I feel where you are TIME what is that right? I have a 4.5 year old and 8 month old at home and work FT outside the home – I too have taken up running and am running my first 5K on Sept 13 – Race for the Cure – SO EXCITED.
You are a true inspiration to me – I dont have a Blog but will LOVE to join the challenge – THANKS!!!
Danielle
Count me in! I teach a boot camp class for beginners but I need something new and fresh for me! :-)
I actually started both the pushups and situps this past Monday. I’m level 3 for pushups and poor for sit ups as well. I will have to check out the squat challenge.
I’m in! I actually just decided a few days ago to start doing push-ups in the morning.
These sound like fun. Thanks for sharing. I will definitely give them a try. Not sure about the squats – hate squats. But definitely the push-ups and sit-ups.
I’m in! I might just start with the squats though. Wait, back up, I’m going to remove the JUST from that sentence (thanks Roni!)
I’m going to start with the squats!
I can do the squats and push ups but the sit ups are a no go because of my back surgery. I’m still working on building up my abs.
I’ve done these challenges, and found them to be a lot of fun and help… I’m considering designing my own 100 challenge (lunges for me, which STILL kill my quads if I do 10 of them! Yikes!)
I did them one at a time; pushups first (starting with 3, and it took me 10 weeks to finish) then squats (which were easy for me, started with 70-some and finished the 200 at the three week mark) and situps which was so-so… took me like 4 weeks to finish that one up, but mostly because I needed the gym to do my situps. I don’t have a mat at home and the floor was killing my back.
I started the 100 pushup challenge in january with a bunch of twitter friends, and as far as I know, I was the only one who finished it (or at least, ppl lost interest in twittering about it)
I’m trying these tonight! It has been raining here for 3 days straight! I was just looking for some alternative exercise to do since I can’t walk outside. I think this challenge is great. Thanks for the idea!
I’m in! I have a lot of work to do based on my tests!
Ill cheer you on for now :)
KILLED my rotatorcuff with the push up challenge the initial go ’round.
100 Push UPs??? Ugh, I can barely get through 10 ….and the girly ones to boot :)
Sounds like a great challenge!
Great idea. I teach a bootcamp class and I’m gonna throw these challenges into the workout. I’ll have them jump rope between sets as their ‘rest’ period. We’ll start this coming Monday, thanks for the idea!
I hurt my back …..but I am your cheerleader!…I also voted for you on diva divine’s best blog award $250 visa card..hope you win!
I love the jump rope in between sets idea. Then you really are getting an awesome interval workout. We did a 100 mountain climbers challenge in my boot camp. It was a nightmare!!!!!
I’m in too! I am ok with the squats and the sit ups, but push ups are my nemesis. Should be interesting to see how far I will come. Thanks for the idea and the motivation.
I am in too. Since slicing my ankle, have not been able to start back running again. This will keep me motivated until the doc figures out why I am still hobbling!
oooooohhh.. definitely thinking about doing this!! Though doing all three might just kill me :) 200 squats scares the life out of me!
I’m definitely in! I was going to start the 200 sit up challenge anyway so this fits right in, whats a few squats and push ups? :-) HA!
I decided to start with the sit ups. Then I’ll go from there. The squats one scares me!
I’m on my second week of 200 situps. It is nowhere near as easy as I thought it would be. After the situps I’m going to do lunges and then pushups last, because I can’t even do one yet. Good luck!
I’m in! I’ll need to do the initial test tomorrow and I’ll post the results then. This is exactly what I need for some accountability for some strength training, thanks!
Roni this is JUST what I needed! I was posting on my own blog a huge “poor me pity party” post. I decided afterwards to come over and look at your archives from when you started out for a push in the right direction. Instead I found your post about the challange. I just did the initial test for Pushups (I did 7), squats (40) and pushups (30) …so I have a ways to go but Im going!
SO not only did I post this on my own blog, I also posted it as a challange on my local moms group board, chesapeakemommies.com and there are about 10 of us doing it together!
THAT IS SO AWESOME!!!!!
