The Packer

Date June 29, 2009

Do you watch The Closer? It’s a series on TNT about Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson who may be my favorite character on TV. She’s a strong vulnerable successful women who does her job and does it well even though she doesn’t always have it all together. Sometimes she seeks comfort in junk food and the scenes where’s she’s savoring a cookie or debating if she should open that candy bar from her desk drawer are priceless.

I’ve had many of those scenes today, downing handfuls of chocolate chips and combos. Although I’m not the Closer… I’m the Packer. I’ve been packing, boxing, cleaning and lugging for a straight 48 hours now. It’s midnight and the poor husband is still downstairs clearing out the garage. I’m not sure we realized how hard it would be to separate what can go in storage for 3 months and what needs to come with us to our temporary apartment.

BUT I’m happy to report MOST of our long term storage stuff is in the POD. Friday you may remember this shot as the POD was just delivered.

Well here it is today. I took the picture from the same spot mind you. :)

So right now I’m up too late and I have work tomorrow. It’s my only work day for the week and my last of part time. As of now this is what the rest of the week looks like..

  • Monday: Work
  • Tuesday: Move remaining belongings into the apartment – clean the house for new owner
  • Wednesday: CLOSE ON THE HOUSE! (keep fingers crossed everything works out!)
  • Thursday: Unpack and RELAX in the apartment.
  • Friday: Do something just for me. I’ve decided on a trip to the salon. I have 2 inch roots and my eye brows are out of control! :)

I’m looking forward to starting up a new routine once we get settled. My eating has gotten a bit crazy these last few days and I’m starting to feel bleh. I miss my kitchen, my fresh veggies and my own cooking!! I can’t wait to hit a local farm stand once we are in the apartment!!

On the workout front I’m doing a little better. I did miss my 5 mile run today BUT I got up early yesterday for a weight training session and did a bit of cardio.

Right now I’ve got to run but not without announcing the winners of the book giveaway! Congrats Mrs. Mommy (WW set) and Annette (low carb set.) You guys didn’t leave blog address so just let me know if you have one. I hope to get the books in the mail on Tuesday.

Oh! One more thing! We drove by the new house today to discover this…

  1. Oh Wow! The house is really moving along! Just the other day you shared a pic of just a concrete hole in the ground. That’s really amazing.

    Good luck with the moving!

  2. Moving is so crazy and stressful! You sound like you have it all together though! Glad you’re finding a day to fit in something for yourself! Gotta take care of you :) Hey, and just a suggestion – maybe you could hire a cleaning service for the day to clean the house for the new owners. One less thing you have to do!

  3. Ohhh I’m all over a cleaning service! Waiting for a call back today. :)

  4. The house looks AMAZING – that’s my dream someday :) Have fun at work!

  5. Wow, what a week you have! At least you will be almost at the end of all of it once you’re in the apartment, right. Moving is the pits, though.
I LOVE The Closer! One of my fave shows! I’m so coveting the pink Trench coat she’s wearing this season, lol.

  6. Congrats on the house! How exciting!

  7. Oh a brand spanking new house just for you. Will you have a dream kitchen?

  8. I LOVE The Closer! It’s one of the best shows on tv. And, Brenda is awesome! She’s strong, but polite (with her “thank you so much”), and she rocks at her job in a man’s world. You’re right, those scenes where she is debating whether to eat a chocolate bar are so true to my life. And, when she finally gives in and savors the bite, that’s my face right there.

It looks like you guys are on your way! That house is coming up fast! You’ll be moving again in no time.

  9. HEY! That looks like my house! Did you do any bump outs or upgrades?

  10. beautiful – why is the style of the home – looks like a colonial but may be a cape? hmmm

  11. Looks like you’ve got quite the busy schedule. House is looking great.

  12. We just moved into our new house this weekend and let me tell ya cleaning the old one was the worst part about the whole thing because by that time you’re already exhausted! Best of luck with the whole thing and it will be exciting when your new home is ready to move into. It’s always worth it :-)

  13. How close in the neighbors house in the bottom pic?

  15. I just discovered your site through the recent Wired article. The article inspired me to start my own blog about my life statistics. I’m planning on keeping mine a bit more anonymous for now and I don’t have any grand goals like weight loss or self improvement, so my blog is more of a look into the stats of my life… which pretty much guarantees I’ll be the only one following it. But, its fun.

As for moving, I’ve moved 4 times in the last 3 years and it isn’t fun.

  16. I love the Closer – unfortunately I’ve just moved back to the UK where they don’t have it :0( I’m going to have to wait until the latest series comes out on DVD.

  17. Good luck with your move!

  18. Expat: you can watch the episodes of the closer on TNT’s website. I think you can also get to them through Hulu.com.

  19. My husband and I built our house last year. Watching the process of it going up was one of the most amazing things to watch! We went by usually once a week and it was amazing how much had been done! Especially once the framing is done and the drywall is up, you can start really imagining how you will live in the house.

Glad the move has gone well!

    Happiness Awaits

  20. The house looks awesome! I am glad that you are packed and ready to go! I finally made it to CA, and there are boxes everywhere. I am looking forward to settling into a routine too :-) Hope your closing goes well!

  21. I love the two pictures of your husband side by side. It looks like you have been busy! Congratulations on the house going up, that is so exciting!

  22. We built our house a year ago. The walls go up fast, it is the inside work that takes forever! I would go by almost everyday to take pictures and once a week we would break in to check out the inside. We were lucky to not have to rent an apartment. We sold our house to people we knew and for a rental property and they rented it back to us. Good luck!

  23. Wow. Congratulations, Roni. I watched my parents’ house go up through the building process, and then later on, my own. It’s truly an amazing feeling. Best of luck!
