I feel your pain about home-selling. Our house has been on market for over a year. I actually got used to the non-activity (lack of interest, lack of over-cleaning for showings). However, we just signed with a new, seemingly aggressive realtor. We’ve had two showings to prep for and Sunday is our first Open House. It stresses me out so much because I do want to sell, but the thought of packing, moving, looking for new home is so overwhelming; not to mention all that can go wrong if/when we actually do get a buyer. The whole situation has really thrown my weigh-loss efforts through a loop! I have been eating non-stop and nothing good! I am a teacher as well, and end-of-year burnout is getting to me, too. I just stopped myself (after already having 1 bag and an individual starburst) from inhaling a second snack sized bag of skittles (and the other indiv. starburst). I came to your page to look for inspiration, and found it again. Going to put the treats back in the box for the kiddos and go gripe to a co-worker. I am sorry that you’re dealing with the same issue, but glad at the same time because it’s the same topic that is ruining my life right now, too… it’s nice to not feel so alone in it.

Hi Roni,

My husband and I are in the same boat housewise. We own a house and a condo…the house has been up for sale since Christmas and the condo, just a few weeks. It’s so hard not to get into a funk when I have so little control over the situation!!! I had a big chat with God about this and finally came to the realization that if He wants us to have children (which is why we need to sell everything…to get a house that’s kid-able), then He’s responsible for the sales. I feel much better since then and realize that my biological clock is in His hands (I’m 28 and so ready to get going with kids). Anyway, I’ll be praying that your place will sell!!! God made our ears, so He hears…even though sometimes I wish He was on MY schedule! :0)

Okay…huge HGTV fan….have you considered having your house staged? Sometimes it helps to get a third person’s perspective on things you can do to seal the deal. At least you have lookers!!!!!!!

At least you recognize it as just that- something you CANNOT control, no matter how frustrating it is! We’re in the same boat, and I’m also a control freak, and it’s driving me nutso. But I have to just trust that it will happen when it’s supposed to, because there really isn’t anything we can do. Keep that chin up and think about something positive today- like the new job! When does that start?

Elaine – You are right, we still have some time. No contingency.. we will lose out 5% down if we can’t buy. It’s not the end of the world I just want it to happen SO badly!

p.s. we buried a st joseph statue by the real estate sign. That day we had an offer, but it was the “flipper” who lowballed us. it was fun to do though. I guess it is still there… we never dug it up!

Selling a house is so stressful. It took us about 6 months to sell ours, and that was when the market was okay. It was really exhausting. I was so tired of cleaning and staging the house, packing up our dog and hanging out in my car until the people looking at it left, AND I was really annoyed with people looking at the house 2 or 3 times for extended periods and then not buying it–that was a major bummer. We had to stop our realtor from giving us “feedback” after viewings and open houses–it was just not useful. We also had some “flipper” lowball us and that was insulting. Eventually the right buyer came along, and all the stress was forgotten, but during the process, I was in a funk most days! The whole roller coaster thing was hard for me–getting excited about a viewing and then nothing coming of it, etc. Hang in there…
