Thursday Thoughts – Morning Edition

It’s 9:35 AM and I’m ALMOST done with my Thursday Thoughts post. What? Look outside… Is the sky falling? Any pigs flying out there?
In all seriousness, I’m trying to get into a new groove. My staying up too late, snacking and not getting enough sleep is really starting to take its toll. So I’m in the midst of finding a new routine. I’ll be starting a new training schedule come monday (more on that later as I edit my calender.) I think gharkness was right about my funk. I need to find my next goal. I do have the half and full marathons but I need something more then running (CanNOT believe I just said that.) I’ll be writing about my new plan this weekend.
Ok, let’s move on to these thoughts…
- Weight loss discovery: ‘brown fat’ – What? Now I have to worry about what COLOR my fat is? On second thought maybe this is why I’m always FREAKIN’ COLD!
- Reaching your weight loss goals – OH My Gosh… I SO did/do this…. "What if I become a skinny biotch?" "What if I become a gym rat?" "Will I become one of those fitness freak that buys protien shakes?" I just talked about this in my What are you REALLY afraid of? post.
- The Best and Worst of Easter Candy – Notice the amounts. "IF I COULD EAT JUST ONE I WOULDN’T CARE!" Sorry had to scream that. My issue isn’t with which candy is best or worse, it’s the ability to enjoy it without mindlessly polishing off every dove chocolate egg in a 3 mile radius.
- 10 Best Dieting Blogs For Women – I wouldn’t say I’ve made a fortune! LMAO more like the salary of a McDonald’s employe BUT I’m honored to be on the list. :)
- The BYOB special is back – Like VitaTops? Get 6 free when you by the Bring Your Own Breakfast 24 pack and use the code WRN33109 OR use the code RonisWeigh for 10% anything you order! Hmmmm come to think of it, maybe I’ll put a few VitaTops in the toddlers Easter Basket this year.
- GreenLiteBites this week – The toddler and I make some failed cup cakes BUT we are looking forward to trying again. I used quinoa to make a simple breakfast and some chickpeas for a fun lunch.
- SkinnyMinnyMedia this week – For my fellow bloggers I wrote up a tutorial on how to find when people read your blogs AND I went over a few ways I make my "fortune". (LMAO – sorry that still cracks me up).
Other News – Not a lot of progress on the cookbook but I’m way further then I’ve ever been. And… Ummm… Hmpf other then that I can’t think of anything else going on besides the fact that I had an interview for a possible REAL job and I’m planning a Fit Bloggers conference. Yup.. I’m insane. I admit it. More to come on these two topics in the near future. Promise. Right now I gotta go… I have a meeting about the new house… I have to clean the old house that hasn’t had a showing in over a week…. and I need to hit the gym before the toddler gets out of school. Life is good, busy but good. Guess I’m out of my funk… huh? :~D

What's Cooking in my kitchen?

Finally my first Farro idea! I have to say, I love this stuff! It's chewy and yummy and, well, fun! I tossed it with what I could find in my pantry and it made a wonderfully satisfying lunch. Filling but not heavy, tasty and quite nutrient dense. According to NutritionData.com this [...] -
I've seen it mentioned in a few of my clean eating and healthy cook books but honestly, I never even thought of Farro as an option for me. I refuse to shop at specialty stores and I try to use only common products that I can keep in stock and purchase from a typical grocery [...] -
I've never had a tuna melt. Is that weird? I guess that's what happens when you grow up not liking mayonnaise. I never ate tuna salad or egg salad or chicken salad. Honestly, they always kind of grossed me out. Then I realized.. hey.. why does tuna salad have [...] -
I have no idea where this idea came from. I was hungry. It was lunch. I had Brussels Sprouts. That was all the catalyst I needed.:) I decided to use a slice of real bacon to add flavor and little fat that would help sauté the sprouts. I'm trying [...] -
WOW was this good. I mean seriously good. It's not vegetarian so don't start throwing stones. I'm calling it a Garden Vegetable Burger because I use the new Laughing Cow Smooth Sensations Garden Vegetable Cream Cheese Spread. It was this recipe on Allrecipes.com that inspired [...] -
I drink water 99.9% of the time but every so often it just doesn't cut it. I want something else. Something more. Something slightly sweet. Today was one of those days. I decided to make a refreshing drink based on the famous Arnold Palmer, half lemonade and half iced [...] -
The other day I made a whole chicken on the grill in pieces. It was delicious! Just a little BBQ sauce and an open flame is all I need to make The Husband happy in the dinner department. I also picked up a few ears of corn from the grocery store. They aren't in season [...] -
Let me explain so you don't think I'm making a chili recipe and just put it on pizza. I'm calling this vegetarian Chili Pizza because chili is what inspired flavors. I think I told you. Little Bean is really into, well, BEANS! We go through a can about every 2 days. Yesterday [...] -
I've confessed my inability to follow recipes here on GreenLiteBites many, many times. I don't know why it's so hard for me. I can barely follow some of my own and I wrote the darn things! I think most of my problem stems from not having all the ingredients listed and, [...] -
Leftover brown rice and leftover sauce meet in this quick lunch idea inspired by my favorite food of all time: Pizza. I swear I can turn anything into a pizza concoction. Have you seen all my pizza ideas? I've used everything from pumpkin to zucchini, polenta to wontons. Nothing is off [...] -
This isn't a recipe just an idea I had to share. I can't believe how good it was! I've never had grilled pineapple. Can you believe it? I just never really had the desire to grill it before. When you love something raw sometimes it doesn't occur to you to cook it. [...] -
I whipped this up for lunch on a whim today because, well, I have a baby who's obsessed with three things… Cheese, Beans, and Avocado. No, really. Look... It's my go to meal for him so I find myself with beans and avocado readily available. [...] -
You know that tradition 7 Layer Mexican Dip? The one with the cream cheese, guacamole, salsa, lettuce, cheese, green onion and olives? Yea. That's the one. Well I had a craving for it the other day. Well, not exactly for it as I can never make anything the way it's suppose [...] -
If you go through the archives of GreenLiteBites I have about 5 total beef recipes. Five. Compare that to the 80+ I have tagged with chicken/turkey there's a clear winner in the meat department on my blog and in my home. I don't have a beef with beef (omg The Husband [...] -
I'm a kitchen sink smoothie maker. Whatever I have on hand goes in the blender and viola! A quick breakfast or a healthy snack. Last year I posted an "Elastic Approach" to how I make smoothies but I still like to share specific combinations that worked really well. This was one [...] -
The other night it was just the kids and I home for dinner and I decided to make what I wanted to make no holds barred. Without The Husband home it's much easier for some reason. Hmmm wonder why? Ok, not here to husband bash.. really.. I'm not! I'm here [...] -
*sigh* I was really hoping to share an awesome turkey burger idea. I had grand plans for my leftover ground turkey. The results was alright but they could have been so much better. I added diced pineapple, red pepper, green pepper, oats and soy sauce to the meat and formed 2 patties. In hindsight I [...] -
I made this on a total whim yesterday having no idea if it would work. To my surprise it did AND the husband actually said he liked it... UNSOLICITED! Here's the story. I had only 4 tilapia fillets defrosted for dinner. I knew it wasn't going to be enough for us [...] -
This is a slight reboot of a recipe I posted last year simply called Sweet Potato and Black Bean Chili. Staying true to my use-what-I-have-on-hand roots I, well, used what I had on hand and made a similar dish with a spicy twist. Topping the result with avocado added a cool creaminess that [...] -
Did you hear? The Laughing Cow recently launched Smooth Sensations a line of 5 cream cheese spreads. There's Classic Cream, Classic Cream Light, Strawberries & Cream, Garden Vegetable and my favorite… Cinnamon. It's a sweet wedge of creamy goodness! Today I decided to use my new favorite flavor [...] -
Confession time, I recorded a 30 minute video making this with both kids (partally) 2 nights ago. I miss videos. I really do but they seem so much more difficult with 2 children. I'm also having technical difficulties with my video recording and audio syncing making it VERY time consuming to edit. [...] -
A couple of years ago I shared a modified version of Sloppy Joe's I made for a party. Everyone loved it but I've been wanting to try to make something similar for the family on a smaller scale and without the pre-made canned Manwich sauce. I don't particularly have any issues [...] -
Yesterday I was dreaming about a salad. Not just any salad, but a chickpea filled, cucumber, and red onion salad with a fun, tangy dressing. Unfortunately, I had no cucumber or red onion. Well, that's a lie. I had a half of cucumber but it was a mushy mess and [...] -
Dinner meals are getting harder and harder for me to share lately. I've gone back to just whipping things up without really measuring anything (this meal was going to be one of those until I realized I still had enough light to take some photos.) I've also instituted a few brainless meal nights [...] -
Three years ago I posted a video called "Makin' Hard Boiled Eggs" where I shared my system for, well... making hard boiled eggs. Genius name, I know. I'm smart like that. Anyway, since then I've gotten tons of feedback and comments thanking me but all the information is locked in a long winded 10 minute [...]

Goo Roni! I’ll check out all the great links during nap time ;)
Routine is key. I’ve been having a real hard time going back to sleep after waking up at 1 a.m. Up til like 4 and then crappy sleep until DD2 wakes up at 6:15 ish. I need to find a better groove and now have a regular workout routine. BUT to celebrate my birthday today I actually decided to ditch the “special breakfast” and use the extra time for a longer workout. huh?!? So maybe I’m on my way to a better routine too. Thanks for all your help along the way!!
And I launched my new blog! http://www.lunzygras.com is now official. thanks for all the help on that end. Have a great day!
~Lisa
Love your Thursday Thoughts! And I’m glad you’re out of that funk.
A couple of things, though: I couldn’t get the link to “reaching your weight loss goals” to work … and I find it funny that in the “best Diet blogs” article, the screen shot of your page includes a Dunkin Donuts ad.
That’s funny I just tested the link and it works. Hmmm here’s the URL… http://www.examiner.com/x-1943-Miami-Fitness-Examiner~y2009m4d8-climb
And I KNOW! I need to talk about RGM on the donuts ads. LOL
Thanks for the tips on candy! I know the bf’s parents will shower me with it this weekend, so it’s good to have a strategy in place!
Good luck with both the job and the house!
what about fitness/weight goal and something that has NOTHING to do with that at all?
Michelle – I’m not sure what you mean.
Sorry..it’s 2:16am in the morning..it probably made sense to me. Establish goals which have to do with fitness/weight ie. run a 1/2 marathon, get to 140lbs, work out 5 times a week and goals that don’t have anything to do with them ie. write down five things I am grateful for each night, vol. once a week for three months, incorporate a new food once a week in my diet, save five dollars a day to spend on something that brings me job, get to bed before 10pm each night, spend 15 minutes each morning for me, have a date night with my husband once every two weeks, write a letter once a week to friends/family/etc.
I think it’s helped me have a mix of things. For me at least it makes me less focused, and less frustrated, on the narrow focus of fitnees/weight goals. That’s just me talking…I am not pushing that on you. I have a gratitude journals which I write in every night. I know you’re extremley busy…you’re crazy busy. But maybe it’s once a week picking out a book at the bookstore w/ your little one…etc.
does that make sense? :)
thanks for always inspiring me :)
It does! And that’s what I thought you meant and that’s EXACTLY what I’m doing. :)
I’m a fan of the morning edition of Thursday Thoughts! With being a student, in the evenings I’m usually doing homework (or at least should be) so this gives me time to really read them and look at all the links before I forget and the next Thursday Thoughts comes around!
I’m working on making goals beyond just school and finishing up my work before I graduate. My situation is the flipped version of yours (I should probably be thinking about the physical more) but I’ll be looking forward to your new plan. Thanks for some good info again Roni :) Have a good holiday weekend!
“IF I COULD EAT JUST ONE I WOULDN’T CARE!”
Seriously.
I had read the brown fat discovery and thought it was very interesting. Also, I really liked the list of top 10 diet blogs. This journey to health is such a complex one that is is helpful to read other’s perspectives and thoughts about it.
I know that blogging is helping me work through my health issues. We will see if that continues.
Thank you so SO much for the “10 Best Dieting Blogs for Women” link! I’m always on the lookout for something new to read!!
The “Fat Color” is something that I saw elsewhere (although didn’t really read it until I saw it linked here!)
http://www.kateharding.net is a really great website for understanding Health At Every Size and I think it could be of value to readers here.
Also, (and this might seem weird) have you ever considered setting a goal, kinda like Lent? Like picking one habit to change or give up, but just for that designated time? It might shake things up for you, but if it doesn’t work out or needs to be tweaked, there’s no real failure involved, you only have to do it for X number of weeks, or on the next 10 Fridays or whatever. It might be a good way to try out something new or slowly work it into your lifestyle. I don’t do Lent myself, but I think I might try this.
Cadbury Mini-Eggs are my weakness! And I can only get them once a year, so I make em’ last by storing them in the back of the freezer. I can actually control myself with them more than any other candy because I know I can only get them at Easter-time.
Brown fat? White fat? How do I know what color fat I have? Things that make you
go hmm…..
I like the candy list, especially the alternative ideas. Even if chocolate is a big part of easter it doesn’t have to be the only thing. When we were kids we would go egg hunting in my grand-ma’s house, and we would find dark chocolate bunnies, a few truffle-like eggs and hard boiled eggs my grand-ma dyed herself, but each of us would also find a new PJ, a few colouring book (when very young) or illustrated educative books on our favourite subjects and novels we liked as we got older. We are 4 kids so I went egg hunting until I was 15 because my youngest brother was still young. After a while those books became the most important part of the loot! Though I can’t say no to dark chocolate either :) Of course that’s the first link I checked :D
Congrats for making the list!
Thanks for the links! Have a great weekend! PS – I am one of those fitness freaks who buy protein shakes! LOL!!!
Hey Roni- I looked at your calendar and noticed a footnote that said the Baltimore Marathon. Is this a new thing??? Am I letting the cat out of the bag? ;) Thanks for all the great links. Lots of good stuff!!
~Lisa/lunzy (formally known as sassyaztec) :)
http://www.lunzygras.com
just an FYI, you can use more than one promo code per order for the Vitatops. so BOTH you mentioned can be used for one order. I get email coupon codes from vatalicious and always use them plus teh RONISWEIGH code. after you apply the code at checkout just add another and apply again.
Michelle – I am now too! lol
Anna – I TOTALLY did NOT know that! Thanks for letting us know!!
If I could eat “just one”, I probably wouldn’t be IN this predicament! You are showing some serioius self- restraint if you are only hitting the 3 mile radius! :) That statement made me SMILE! I know exactly what you mean, but I am trying! We leave for Tennessee on Monday. The candy goes with us. It will NOT come home! Anything left, still in it’s packaging will be sent to the Food Pantry.
Congrats on making the Top 10 list…great accomplishment! Easter candy can’t come home here…the only will-power I have is to leave it in the store, because once it’s here, it’s going to be something I’ll wear soon. :( A friend is using the audio from thinkequalsthin.com and loves it…maybe useful? You go, girlfriend…keep sharing those Thursday Thoughts with us!!
