One Mom’s Journey from Fat to Skinny to Confident

Poll: What kind of Twitter Follower are You?

How can I NOT talk about twitter now that Oprah is onboard? Seriously. ;~P

I love observing how people use technology. With all the Twitter buzz lately I’m seeing a few patterns emerge. From what I can tell there seems to only be 5 different types of Twitter Followers. Those that…

follow everyone that has an account.
These people could crudely be called twitter whores. What ever the reason (some may be maliscious, some benign) they follow every twitter ID they can find. These people normally follow significantly more people then follow them.
follow anyone who is in a specific "niche".
These twitter users have a purpose. They may blog in a tight topic or niche and have a "clique" of fellow twitters that share their interest.
follow everyone that follows them.
I fell into this category for awhile. I thought it only polite to follow a fellow twitter who went out of their way to follow me. Then I realized not everyone following me had an interest in what I was saying. Some where just trying to build their own numbers or do research.
follow only those that @ reply them.
I now fall into the category in addition to seeking others out in my niche. If I have conversation with another twitter-er or someone goes out of their way to respond to one of my tweets I take the time to check out their twitter page and/or blog.
only follow people they know.
The complete opposite of the "twitter whores", these are the prude twitter users (not that there’s anything wrong with it) that are very selective of who they follow.

I don’t think one type of follower is any better then the other. As I said, these are just my observations. Everyone has a different purpose, goal and style when it comes to twittering. I’m just curious what yours is.

Think I missed a twitter type? Don’t fall into one of those categories? Please let me know in the comments!

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

I follow three types of people: friends, co-workers and people/groups I have an interest in (the local weather man, daily quotes, musicians, etc).

I DO NOT follow people just because they follow me. I tried that briefly, but then I ended up with a lot of garbage that I cared nothing about.

I follow people who have interesting things to say. I don’t really have a certain niche, and hardly anyone @replies me, so there you go.

Also, I think there’s something wrong with your code again, at the top of the page I see, “How can I NOT talk about twitter now that Oprah is onboard? Seriously. ;~P” but then I have to scroll waaaay down to see the rest of the post. I’m using IE.

Thanks!! That doesn’t happen on my Mac… it was the graphic… too wide. All fixed! :)

I don’t really fall into either of those categories, either. I follow friends, blogs that I read, musicians, local weather & news, interesting people who have followed me.

I don’t follow everyone who follows me for the same reason you don’t. Of course, my blog is a patchwork quilt as well! I don’t have a certain topic, just everything in my life!

Thanks for all of your “techie” help! My husband is a computer programmer/web designer so he helps me a lot, but it’s nice to hear it from someone else as well!

    Take care!

how did I miss this post?

I don’t fall into any of your categories. I have some friends, bloggers I follow, people I think are interesting, some celebrities, a total mix. I comment to some and have the feed in my blog. I usually check out who is following me and then I might follow them for a while if they seem interesting. I un-follow (is that a word?) if people post too much at one time or are just trying to sell me something. I don’t really get the whole protected updates thing, isn’t that what FaceBook is for??

I only follow people that I know, or want to get to know. Or wish I knew…like Ashton Kutcher. He’s so cute.

At the age of 57, I am a baby geek in the woods. But the people I now get exposure to is amazing. There is so much left to do today now that I have found more wisdom. Blog on you geek babes. And you missed a category, guys like me that dont know what to follow yet or follow up the wrong hole, or just get lost.
