No Fun Friday :( Trying to make Lemonade out of a Lemon
April 17, 2009
I’m into day 2 of excruciating upper back pain. Doc seems to thing it’s "just a spasm." But I can’t turn my head to either side or get up from a sitting position without a yelp. IT SUCKS! I’m miserable and it’s really thrown me for a loop.
I’m pretty much couch bound with my heating pad and I’ve been on the computer the whole time but I am completely unmotivated to actually get work done. I’m hoping by writing this it snaps me out of the slump. I can’t believe I missed the question of the week AND Thursday Thoughts!
OK… That’s it… It’s time to make some Lemonade. I’m tired of feeling sorry for myself. You know what will cheer me up?
Giving away $100 Bucks!! It’s time to pick the winner of the Living Greener and Healthier giveaway that was sponsored by SunChips
…And the winner is
Congrats Allison!! So.. what are you going to do with the 100 bucks!?!? Curious minds want to know!
See… now I already have a smile on my face. :~)
Let’s see. What else would me me Happy? Oh yeah!
Did you see my joke about Oprah? I’m not kidding, I got a call from one of her producers. I almost crashed the car when I answered my cell. Apparently Oprah is considering doing a story about WeightView, the site where you upload a picture and they show you what you look like at a lower weight. I posted about their site last year in the Question of the Week Post: Do You Visualize Your Weight Loss?
Oprah’s producers saw that I contribute to their site (I recently posted about spring time recipes) and that I lost weight. They wanted to know if I used the service. Since I didn’t (already lost the weight before I knew about them) they didn’t seem that interested in me at all. Oh well, as my friend said "At least you are in a Oprah’s filing cabinet somewhere."
That made me smile. :~)
You know what else made me giggle? This…

and this…

Here’s the story. I received an email from Helen asking if I was in a new commercial for Yahoo. So I did a search and immediately found this…
I knew it had to be the one she was talking about. After I posted on twitter to get opinions (if the actress looked like me) Marc (@babymakes7) made the side by side shots. This totally cracked me up.
And made me smile. :~)
See.. that really helped. Sometimes just talking a moment and thinking about things that make you smile can give you just what you need to ward off a funk. So as I sit here with my heading pad and the massager my friend just dropped off, I’m feeling a bit more motivated. I think I’ll go work on the cookbook. :~)

Poor thing! I know just how you feel. I went through that last week myself. Totally messed up my workout routine (let alone my sanity). Take it easy and hope you feel better!

I have knots in my back, in the curve right around my shoulder blade and when they act up or tighten up, I can’t move my neck at all either. Getting up or rolling over in bed is excruciating! I don’t like strong meds for this because I have 3 kids and need all of my faculties, so I take pamprin or midol for it’s mild muscle relaxer. And of course the heating pad. Good luck. And when it’s over and the movement is back, the muscles will be sore like you spained it or have a bruise. Hope the training schedule doesn’t take a beating. At least you have the WEB!!!

Oh Roni, I am so sorry to hear about your back. Something like that happened to me like 7 years ago…and I STILL feel the pain. No good. My best suggestion to you is to ignore your doctor and immediately begin physical therapy. I go to therapy once a year for around 6-8 sessions and the therapists all tell me that if I gotten therapy right away, I wouldn’t have the chronic pain. Not trying to be mellow-dramatic or tell you what to do, but I wish someone had pointed in the right direction many years ago…..

Well, Roni, the twin you never had, namely me, is going through just about this exact same thing right now.
Must be the book tour.
Ow.

And you can also blame the tour on missing “the question of the week AND Thursday Thoughts!” :)
I did like that commercial and I love you putting the sunglasses on!

Thanks for the $100! I have no idea what I’ll spend it on. I’d like to spend it on myself, how about a manicure and pedicure? Yipeee!

Wow, that’s too bad about your back. Do you have any idea what you did to cause the spasms? I hate back issues. I used to get spasms in my lower back but have noticed that since I started weight training and Yoga it hasn’t happened in years. Anyway. . .I’m so sorry and I hope you feel better as soon as possible. Thanks for all you do for us, your reading audience.

Dang…back pain is not any fun. But if you get some muscle relaxers you might not remember a thing.
I cannot believe how much the lady in the yahoo ad looks like you! That is cool and crazy at the same time!

Once your back gets better start taking a once a week beginner or gentle Yoga class. A couple of years ago I turned my head to look over my shoulder and my back got thrown out. I spend my days in front of a computer and my chiropractor said that the reason my back was out was because the muscles in my upper back had gotten so tense that it pulled my back out of alignment. He cracked me back into place and then told me to go back to yoga. Not the fitness yoga but a “gentle” yoga class. They focus more on alignment and on making sure that you know how to access each muscle to use it or relax it. It helped a ton and when I went back to the chiropractor a few weeks later he said I didn’t need to see him any more and to keep up the yoga practice.

I second the idea of seeing a chiropractor. Especially since you spend so much time at the computer! Massage helps too, as well as the gentle yoga. Hope you feel better soon!

Hey Roni! I am in the same boat as you… I pulled some random muscle in my back/shoulder/neck this weekend, and I can’t move either! I hope you’re on the upswing by now. Give us an update.
And the picture look-alike is terrific… that haircut would look so fabulous on you, too! The actress is adorable; take it as a compliment :)

Oh Roni, I so now how you are feeling. I have been down since Wednesday with neck/shoulder/arm pain. It has been awful however I did go to spin Sat. and Sun. and probably shouldn’t have done that. Hubs is bringing home meds for me tonight. I haven’t been able to sleep or stay on the computer long at all. It hurts!!!
Sending big hugs and healing vibes your way.

Love the picture. Isn’t it weird to find a double???? Okay…….I must tell you about my back pain. I had started running. All summer long I ran and ran. THEN…..I decided to wear different shoes . Why? did I do such a thing???? …I am not sure. Then suddenly I had this screaming back pain. Could hardly stand up straight. Went to the chiropractor. Asked me if I properly stretched before running. OF course I didn’t…..asked me If
I had new shoes….Of course I did….Asked me to come back for several therapy sessions. It helped, but everytime I run I feel hits of that pain in my back. I can see where YOGA may be the answer to this as a lifetime solution. I am sorry to hear of the pain, however it will get better.
