Super Fast Sensational Sunday – Literally!

Date March 2, 2009

Even though I’m totally wiped right now I have to tell you about my Sensational Sunday! It all started with a 5K run. I’m 2 months into my training and today I had a 5k scheduled. Carrie and I decided to run the same 5K route we did on the Jan 1 Resolution Run so we could compare times. I’m totally psyched as I shaved almost 2 minutes off the run! Check it out!

Jan 1 5k run

March 1 5k run

I’m not going to lie, it was a tough run! BUT it totally set the tone for my Sunday. I was feeling great! Upon my return, we made lunch and the husband and I decided to take the toddler roller skating.

Long story short… We’ve recently been taking the toddler Bowling and the husband said we needed to find something else we can do with the little guy. I blurted out ROLLER SKATING. Partly as a joke but when I found a rink just a few miles away I got totally psyched. I haven’t strapped skates on in at least 20 years (there may have been an attempt in college but I won’t go there.)

The toddler in skatesIt was like riding a bike. I was whipping around in no time! I can’t say the same for the husband. LOL He warmed up after a bit but the first hour was a little shaky. The toddler? Well he was ALL smiles even though he had a death grip on both my hands. After a little while he said, and I quote, "I can’t take it anymore," in the cutest toddler voice ever. So we took his skates off and let him play some video games for a bit. The funny thing was he had more fun giving me high fives as I lapped a few times during the ‘adults only’ skate. Yes! they still do themed songs! (Only girls, only couples, trios, etc.)

Here he is not wanting his picture taken but check out the skates! :)

After we got our skating fill we decided on Hot Fudge Sundaes from McDonald’s. It just seemed like a natural ending to our afternoon. :)

After we got home I got a bit of work done and then started dinner. The toddler is going through SUCH a phase at dinner time. I want to just strangle him. Every night seems to be a battle. I’m not a food forcer so I always allow him to leave the dinner table as long as he tried a bite of everything on his plate. HOWEVER, I leave the plate there and when he asks for a snack I tell him his dinner gets eaten first. Let’s just say in the last 3 days he’s eaten his "chicken" (tonight it was tilapia) approximately 3 hours after later.

After dinner we caught Arachnophobia on TV and the toddler was GLUED to the screen. He’s always had this morbid fascination with spiders. So the husband and I decided to see if he could handle the movie and we watched it as a family. The toddler was SOOO cute! Asking where the spiders came from and telling me what his favorite parts were. It was the first time a movie (besides animation) has held his attention that long. Here we are snuggling on the couch. :)

The toddler and I watching a movie

Then it was B E D time! It sounds bad but I’m always totally ready for the toddler to go to bed. Don’t get me wrong we had a great day! But it was long and notice… there was no nap mixed in there. So mom needed mom time!

After stories the husband and I resumed our positions on the couch to get our computer time in and watch our 2 favored New Zealanders. Now…. I’m writing this. What a day! RIght? ok… Off to bed. :)

Ahhh but first my food journal…

  1. Even though I only take one rest day a week from the gym, I am always jealous when I hear of someone else’s awesome work-out on that day! I guess that is the ‘pre – healthy lifestyle’ guilt creaping back! Anyways…Awesome run Roni. You burned some extra calories with that skating too!

  2. what a great day…i love the end of a really great day…one where i feel that i have satisfied everyone’s needs…emotional, physical, etc….so good for you Roni!! and don’t feel bad about needing you time….we all need that! and the food issue….lemme tell ya, i’ve learned a bit about it w/ three kiddos…and you don’t have a thing to worry about…he’s not going to starve! and I agree totally with how you are doing it….we pushed food on our eldest…and now it’s an issue…allowing him to listen to his body is a GREAT way to handle this…while still making a stand as the parent by letting him know dinner is dinner…regardless of when you eat it…we do that now too…and only if dinner is finished you may get something else!! so great job Roni!! keep up the good work and I hope you have more days like this one!!

  3. Sounds like a great day! My toddlers still won’t sit through non-cartoon movies, but my 6 year old LOVED Eight Legged Freaks. :)

  4. we have the exact same rule in our house for dinner time. I hate the thought of forcing DD to “clean her plate” but finishing her dinner is certainly the only option when she says she is hungry later on.

And you are so not the only one ready for bedtime each night.

  5. Oh man! Was there I weekend? I missed it AGAIN.

  6. I love Sundays. congrats on the run. We started out first attempt at an herb garden from seed and added tomato and peppers. I adopted a phrase, “one bite rule” with my son’s when they were toddlers which ended up sticking with us throughout, mind you there were many a bites that ended up in the napkin ( Napkin? who am i kidding, back on the plate is more like it) Now 24 and 25 i have on many an occation heard them say to a friend,”one bite rule” and I believe this helped them to take life with the same regaurd. I can proudly say that they both are always willing to try new things and are open to new ideas. And yes, when having dinner at moms if there is something new we still have “one bite rule” the daughter-in-law has even surendered to the ritual.

  7. Way to have such an active Sunday…it was the antithetical day of rest for you! But I bet it got those endorphins going :).

  8. Sounds like a hoot! Congrats on the run. Skating looked and sounded fun as well :)

Imagine my surprise when I saw a post on Divine Caroline today from my favorite blogger!!! ;) Great article by the way…

  9. awww…………that is the sweetest pic! Skating must have been a total blast!!

  10. Great time on the run, and a huge improvement in time in a short period of time. Keep up the great work. I hate running, but once I start it really is a great workout and stress reliever.
