Return of the Produce Picks: Star Fruit (Carambola)

Date March 24, 2009

Since launching GreenLiteBites over a year ago (YIKES!) I moved my produce picks over there as it IS my food blog. But I can’t help to think they still belong over here. A huge part of my weight loss was and is trying new things and I really want to inspire you to do the same.

So I’ve decided to double list produce picks. Here’s a video the toddler and I recoded this morning trying Star Fruit. If you’d like more information about the fruit click here to check out my post over on GreenLiteBites. In short, this mildly sweet tasty, fun fruit is less then 40 calories, with no fat and 3g of fiber. If a 3 year old likes it… you KNOW it’s good. LOL

  1. oooh! I love start fruit! It tastes like a combination between an apple and an orange. Yum!

  2. I can’t find star fruits in any grocery stores where I am! Or maybe I’m just not looking hard enough. I’m so curious to try them.

  3. This video was so much fun!!! I haven’t tried this but I will look for one next time at the store. We did try a new thing Sunday night called a PearApple or ApplePear….anyway it is just like a combo of apple and pear and is really sweet and good!!! Ryan would probably like them!! He is so funny!

  4. I’ve never actually tried starfruit, but it looks so cool! When looking at wedding receiption sites, one of the things that stuck out in my mind about the place we chose is that they do starfruit on the champagne glass instead of a strawberry. Seems classy and different!

  5. Mmm! I don’t think I’ve ever seen star fruit at my grocery stores, but I’m going to look for it now. It sounds really good!
