I lost 7 pounds and found your blog which I really enjoy following. I am training for a half marathon this year and my motto for my son's wedding in June in Frumpy or Fabulous. I am already leaving frumpy behind. I really need to give up Diet Coke in 2009. Amanda or anyone else have some suggestions for dropping it and what to replace it with when I am away from home. Bottled water is not always that interesting!

This is a great thread!
I lost 35 pounds, and ran 2 10k races, despite having never run before. I started a serious weight-training programme and deadlifted 200 lbs.

For 2008 I resolved to lose weight by becoming more active and eating better. I joined the local Y and now, one year later, I weigh within 5 pounds of my starting weight.

But-- One of my friends had to point this out because I didn't see it in me... I have succeeded in making going to the Y and working out a part of my nearly daily routine. I lug my 2 kids (2&4) to the child care, work out hard and then take them into the gym or racketball court to play. I am much stronger and am seeing some body changes even if the scale isn't moving much.

So resolving to lose weight in 2009 doesn't seem nearly that hard as I'll only be trying to maintain my working out habit and then adding the attempt to really eat better.

Oh, and I lost 7 pounds since Dec. 7!! That's an accomplishment.

I gave birth to my 2nd child--a boy in April. I am still breastfeeding him and that is one goal/achievement I thought I would NEVER meet!

In October, I decided I needed to get off all artificial sweeteners--specifically diet coke. I haven't had a drop of soda since Halloween! That's 2 full months! WOO HOO!!!

I am not back to my pre-pregnancy weight, but I am w/in 5# and that is HUGE for me! I did NOT gain a ton of weight with my son and that I am very proud of. However, I am down 15# and 15 inches so I am thrilled with the progress I have made.

What a great idea for a question of the week!

I love reading all the wonderful things everyone has done. For me, 2008 was the year that I "got it". I realized that my life would have to change for me to reach the goals I had set for myself. I continued on my WW journey and have lost 56 pounds (about 40 in 2008). I made a committment to exercise starting in Sept. and I'm very proud to say the I have exercised 5 days a week with very few exceptions for the past 4 months. I've changed my relationship to food. I still enjoy it, but it no longer rules my life.

All these changes contributed to 2008 being one of the happiest of my life. I still have a bunch of weight to lose to get into my healthy range, but now I'm certain that I can do it and more importantly, sustain the loss.

- I fell in love with walking outside.
- I fell in love with blogging.
- I took steps to open myself up to having deep friendships with other women and to let them be a positive force in my life. This involved trusting them, being myself, and allowing myself to need other people. SCARY!
- I took steps to prioritize my own needs more and not just always take care of everybody else at my own expense.
- I had my 10-year wedding anniversary and am still happily married. With the current divorce rate, that is an accomplishment to me!! :)
- I learned to recognize when I'm triggered so I can stop the resulting self-sabotage.
- I loved myself more in 2008 than I had in any other year of my life.

Wow, I feel all warm and fuzzy just reading about all the positive things we as a community have accomplished this year! Mine are pretty traditional:
~ Started exercising regularly, have now run 4 organized 5k races and many more on my own
~ Accepted that health is not just a number and focued on being healthy instead of skinny
~ Curbed my excessive drinking and the resulting binge eating
~ Made it through another year!
Thanks as always for the forum you provide us with here. I'm looking forward to cheering you on as you train for the marathon!
