One Mom’s Journey from Fat to Skinny to Confident

Open for Business!

Here it is! I can’t believe I actually finished it by my (own self-inflicted) deadline! If you guys didn’t already know SkinnyMinnyMedia is the name of the company I started when I decided to pursue blogging full time. Leaving a salaried position I felt the need to create an identity to make what I was doing seem all the more "real". It’s not a hobby anymore. It’s my career. Creating an LLC helped me make that transition.

That being said has been up and running for about a year but it wasn’t a "blog." Just an old fashion static HTML site I created to give my new company and identity on the web. When I decided to create a new blog for the purpose of sharing my technical and blogging knowledge I decided to use the company’s identity to do so. Why not? I like the name (it’s sort of a private joke to myself as I would never call myself skinny) and who needs another website to attend to? I already have 4!

So here it is. Not quite finished but ready enough for prime time. My goal with the blog is 1-2 posts a week answering questions and sharing my knowledge on blogging and technology in general. Being a self-conscious geek I NEVER thought I’d have a technology blog but here I am. :) Hopefully I’ll be able to share some useful tips and not bore you with my obsession with all things web. :)

That being said I’m proud to say this blog is sporting the first WordPress theme I created myself! Because of that I’m sure it has problems but the experience was invaluable. So bring on the WordPress questions if you have them. I can’t promise to know all the answered but I am a really good searcher. ;~P

Let me know what you think, good or bad. I welcome feedback and questions!

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

Hi Roni, and congratulations on your new outlet plus achieving your self imposed deadline! I just listened to your interveiw with Jack, and it was very interesting – a lot of information that I’m going to listen to again. I am slowly working on ideas for my own income on-line. Getting started is daunting, like trying to get to a speck in a corn field. I love everything about it though, and crave the creatvie outlet it offered in this on-line medium, yet I need to get my income at least started sooner rather than later, at least on a small level. This home needs $500 a month over my current fulltime job to break even

I’m a graphic designer whose been away from the business for five years; however, my specialty was always print media, so my web design knowledge are limited to basic html. I learn as I go. Plus, I have a honor level education in Public Relations, an industry that’s currently in a new curve with all the on-line blogging etc.

At this point my only blog is Lady Downsize! My weight loss journey and outlet, but I have so much more to offer. So, my questions are…One, do you believe a college course in web design is necessary, or are there on-line sites you’re aware of that add in web writing learning beyond basic html? Second,I have signed up at Wordpress with a new blog. It awaits my brilliant idea to get it going. In the meantime, can you take a peak at my current blog and share any ideas or thoughts from writing to content?

One thing I wonder about, since I am in Canada, is how much all the online income offers are available here. Most things on-line are geared toward the US.

    So sorry about my wordiness!

SkinnyMinnyMedia–I LOVE the name. Good job. I’m glad you’ve started this, because I am kicking around a few ideas about my online presence. I’ll see if I can get my thoughts organized enough to ask an intelligent question. Bon Voyage on this new adventure!

You have inspired with me with your weigh loss journey for the past 3 years or so. Now, you are inspiring me even more. I admire that you are a self-starter, very ambitious, and so courageous with your career. You are an inspiration to small-business and self-employed women!!

This is amazing! Love the name … love the concept … and love that it’s another dream come true for you. :)

You are the hardest working woman in the blog world — thanks for all that you do to support and inspire others on the weight-loss journey.

Congrats! This is awesome. My first WP questions is how do you get numbered comments?

Welcome to the neighborhood (though I know you’ve been around for quite a while now). But at least, welcome to the new duds. I love the premise. I’m sure I’ll have questions for you as time goes by. Right now, I’m still stuck in my own weight loss tunnel. Can’t wait to read more.

Hey, chica! Hope you feel 100% ASAP :)

I’m excited about the new blog — I tried to revise the html on my Blogger template earlier today and totally jacked it up. I’m realizing that my one semester of HTML at the junior college doesn’t prepare me for today’s websites! I’ll have fun learning from your new blog!

Hey Roni, I’m very excited about your new site. I think it looks great. Listened to your website chat and found it very informative and a great peek inside the world of a dedicated blogger like yourself. I’m sure Skinny Minny Media is going to be a huge success and I look forward to following along the way.

Congratulations Roni! Hope you’re feeling better soon. We have a bug at our house too. I guess it’s that time of year.

Hi Roni, I’m excited that you are offering this resource to us less-than-knowledgeable bloggers! I have a question. When I first started with wordpress, not knowing what I was doing, I had no problem importing pictures from my computer to the blog. I have an imac, and I would export the picture from Iphoto to Documents, and then Import it from there into Wordpress. Then all of a sudden it seemed, it wouldn’t allow me to import from documents (or anywhere I tried)–the writing was gray instead of black–wouldn’t allow me to click on the photo title–does that make sense?

Well, I kind of have found a way to get around it, but it still bugs me when something doesn’t work and I can’t figure out why.
