Thursday Thoughts XI – Blogs, blogs and more blogs.

Confession time…. I can’t keep up. I just can’t. I abandoned my RSS reader months ago because I got tired of seeing "5692 messages unread". It’s just depressed me. Instead, I do my best to surf and read sites when I have time. Which is joke because I NEVER have time. I try though.
Here are a few posts that caught my attention this week. Some I commented on, some I didn’t. I read more since becoming a blogger then I have my first 20-something odd years on this planet. It’s unbelievable.
Let the links begin…
- Mo over at Big Fat Deal discusses Oprah’s recent revelation that she’s mad at herself for gaining weight again. In my opinion, Oprah shows she’s no different then the rest of us, struggling with body image that creates the yo you dieting cycle from hell that many of us are victims of ourselves. I just can’t believe with all she has accomplished that she (Oprah) hasn’t yet accepted her body yet. Remember my 3 steps to a healthier you? Yup… it’s STEP 1! I think Oprah needs me on her show to tell her that, don’t you? ;~P
- LeeseKnits, one of our fellow BlogToLose’rs wrote a Diary of a Mad Fat Woman. She has a good talking to herself and I think a lot of us can relate.
- Kristin from Shoutin’ From the Rooftop is running a cool contest for those of us interested in Weight Watchers. The prizes include a Points calculator, a Weight Watchers cookbook, and her her favorite snacks. WHOO HOO
- Charlie over on Back To The Fridge has a great post about childhood crushes. I shared my love for Matthew Brodericks and Jon Cryer’s of the world but I forgot to mention John Cusack! I definitely have a "type" there, don’t I? lol The husbands fits right in too. ;~P
- Carla of MizFitOnline has a guest post today for the "Perfected Avocado Smoothie" which is too funny as I was just looking at avocados and trying to figure out how to get them into my diet as I’m not the biggest fan.
- Crabby of Cranky Fitness wrote a grumpy post about Antioxidants and aging. As I’m not getting any younger I share her grumpy attitude on the subject of a new study.
- Kris wrote something on BlogToLose a few weeks ago that made me laugh aloud. She posted a quick story about how she overcame the urge to run through a drive-thru by asking WWRD? That is "What Would Roni Do?". LOL What do you think? Can you see a line of WWRD products? A bracelet? Mug? Maybe even a magnet for your fridge. LMAO sorry… just CRACKS me up!
- Mel from The Daily Mel wrote up a great review of the new Weight Watchers Momentum plan. Her’s provides a bit more details then my short ramble did. I thought you guys would appreciate it.
- Lynn over on Lynn’s Weigh reminds us that food can equal love and sometimes that’s ok. The holiday season is about family, memories and traditions don’t let your diet ruin your fun and don’t let the fun ruin your diet. As Lynn so eloquently says, "I hope you’ll think about how food and love intersect in your life. Yes, there’s a lot of food out there right now, but which ones mean more to you than empty calories and heartburn? "
OK, I can go on and on here. You know that. There are just so many great bloggers out their sharing their experiences, ideas, tips, insights and lives. It’s so AWESOME isn’t it?
As for me on this gloomy Thursday well…
- I’m making a fresh batch of my Homemade Sauce and I’m going to experiment with a bread-less eggplant parmesan recipe later tonight. GreenLiteBites was a little slow this week. I posted this weeks video making my new favorite lunch, Bulgur with Peas and Pomegranate and last night I whipped up some roasted tomatoes for a quick snack.
- I was also humbled this morning when I read DietInReview.com’s Diet Awards 2008. GreenLiteBites won Best Healthy Recipe Blog and Roni’s Weigh was a runner up for Best Diet Blog! WOW. I realize there are are so many good sites and blogs out there so to even be considered is a compliment. Thank you so much Brandi!
- Other news… I’m working on my day in the life video post and review of the Nokia camera phone. I SHOULD have it out this weekend. I also have a post I’ve been trying to find time to work on. Not to mention to pile of books I’m trying to review. Plus a new contests, especially for those interested in the Zone diet. Ummmm I think that’s it. It’s probably not but if I end there I’ll feel better. :)

What's Cooking in my kitchen?

Finally my first Farro idea! I have to say, I love this stuff! It's chewy and yummy and, well, fun! I tossed it with what I could find in my pantry and it made a wonderfully satisfying lunch. Filling but not heavy, tasty and quite nutrient dense. According to NutritionData.com this [...] -
I've seen it mentioned in a few of my clean eating and healthy cook books but honestly, I never even thought of Farro as an option for me. I refuse to shop at specialty stores and I try to use only common products that I can keep in stock and purchase from a typical grocery [...] -
I've never had a tuna melt. Is that weird? I guess that's what happens when you grow up not liking mayonnaise. I never ate tuna salad or egg salad or chicken salad. Honestly, they always kind of grossed me out. Then I realized.. hey.. why does tuna salad have [...] -
I have no idea where this idea came from. I was hungry. It was lunch. I had Brussels Sprouts. That was all the catalyst I needed.:) I decided to use a slice of real bacon to add flavor and little fat that would help sauté the sprouts. I'm trying [...] -
WOW was this good. I mean seriously good. It's not vegetarian so don't start throwing stones. I'm calling it a Garden Vegetable Burger because I use the new Laughing Cow Smooth Sensations Garden Vegetable Cream Cheese Spread. It was this recipe on Allrecipes.com that inspired [...] -
I drink water 99.9% of the time but every so often it just doesn't cut it. I want something else. Something more. Something slightly sweet. Today was one of those days. I decided to make a refreshing drink based on the famous Arnold Palmer, half lemonade and half iced [...] -
The other day I made a whole chicken on the grill in pieces. It was delicious! Just a little BBQ sauce and an open flame is all I need to make The Husband happy in the dinner department. I also picked up a few ears of corn from the grocery store. They aren't in season [...] -
Let me explain so you don't think I'm making a chili recipe and just put it on pizza. I'm calling this vegetarian Chili Pizza because chili is what inspired flavors. I think I told you. Little Bean is really into, well, BEANS! We go through a can about every 2 days. Yesterday [...] -
I've confessed my inability to follow recipes here on GreenLiteBites many, many times. I don't know why it's so hard for me. I can barely follow some of my own and I wrote the darn things! I think most of my problem stems from not having all the ingredients listed and, [...] -
Leftover brown rice and leftover sauce meet in this quick lunch idea inspired by my favorite food of all time: Pizza. I swear I can turn anything into a pizza concoction. Have you seen all my pizza ideas? I've used everything from pumpkin to zucchini, polenta to wontons. Nothing is off [...] -
This isn't a recipe just an idea I had to share. I can't believe how good it was! I've never had grilled pineapple. Can you believe it? I just never really had the desire to grill it before. When you love something raw sometimes it doesn't occur to you to cook it. [...] -
I whipped this up for lunch on a whim today because, well, I have a baby who's obsessed with three things… Cheese, Beans, and Avocado. No, really. Look... It's my go to meal for him so I find myself with beans and avocado readily available. [...] -
You know that tradition 7 Layer Mexican Dip? The one with the cream cheese, guacamole, salsa, lettuce, cheese, green onion and olives? Yea. That's the one. Well I had a craving for it the other day. Well, not exactly for it as I can never make anything the way it's suppose [...] -
If you go through the archives of GreenLiteBites I have about 5 total beef recipes. Five. Compare that to the 80+ I have tagged with chicken/turkey there's a clear winner in the meat department on my blog and in my home. I don't have a beef with beef (omg The Husband [...] -
I'm a kitchen sink smoothie maker. Whatever I have on hand goes in the blender and viola! A quick breakfast or a healthy snack. Last year I posted an "Elastic Approach" to how I make smoothies but I still like to share specific combinations that worked really well. This was one [...] -
The other night it was just the kids and I home for dinner and I decided to make what I wanted to make no holds barred. Without The Husband home it's much easier for some reason. Hmmm wonder why? Ok, not here to husband bash.. really.. I'm not! I'm here [...] -
*sigh* I was really hoping to share an awesome turkey burger idea. I had grand plans for my leftover ground turkey. The results was alright but they could have been so much better. I added diced pineapple, red pepper, green pepper, oats and soy sauce to the meat and formed 2 patties. In hindsight I [...] -
I made this on a total whim yesterday having no idea if it would work. To my surprise it did AND the husband actually said he liked it... UNSOLICITED! Here's the story. I had only 4 tilapia fillets defrosted for dinner. I knew it wasn't going to be enough for us [...] -
This is a slight reboot of a recipe I posted last year simply called Sweet Potato and Black Bean Chili. Staying true to my use-what-I-have-on-hand roots I, well, used what I had on hand and made a similar dish with a spicy twist. Topping the result with avocado added a cool creaminess that [...] -
Did you hear? The Laughing Cow recently launched Smooth Sensations a line of 5 cream cheese spreads. There's Classic Cream, Classic Cream Light, Strawberries & Cream, Garden Vegetable and my favorite… Cinnamon. It's a sweet wedge of creamy goodness! Today I decided to use my new favorite flavor [...] -
Confession time, I recorded a 30 minute video making this with both kids (partally) 2 nights ago. I miss videos. I really do but they seem so much more difficult with 2 children. I'm also having technical difficulties with my video recording and audio syncing making it VERY time consuming to edit. [...] -
A couple of years ago I shared a modified version of Sloppy Joe's I made for a party. Everyone loved it but I've been wanting to try to make something similar for the family on a smaller scale and without the pre-made canned Manwich sauce. I don't particularly have any issues [...] -
Yesterday I was dreaming about a salad. Not just any salad, but a chickpea filled, cucumber, and red onion salad with a fun, tangy dressing. Unfortunately, I had no cucumber or red onion. Well, that's a lie. I had a half of cucumber but it was a mushy mess and [...] -
Dinner meals are getting harder and harder for me to share lately. I've gone back to just whipping things up without really measuring anything (this meal was going to be one of those until I realized I still had enough light to take some photos.) I've also instituted a few brainless meal nights [...] -
Three years ago I posted a video called "Makin' Hard Boiled Eggs" where I shared my system for, well... making hard boiled eggs. Genius name, I know. I'm smart like that. Anyway, since then I've gotten tons of feedback and comments thanking me but all the information is locked in a long winded 10 minute [...]

Hey Roni,
Another great list. I got hooked on your blog with a Thursday Thoughts article and they keep exceeding expectations.
Congrats on the runner up, though I think you could have easily been a winner.
I read MizFit’s avacodo smootie post this morning, not sure I am sold on avacodo as a smoothie, so I am still on the fence as to whether or not I will try it.
Keep up the great work, and I will be back soon!
Among all of the other things you listed that you are doing or in the middle of doing, we haven’t heard anything about the cookbook lately? Taking a back seat at the moment? Don’t blame you, your plate is pretty full!
Congrats on the runner up! That’s awesome :)
Michelle – Ahhh the book…. ummm yeah… when I lost the version I was working on my motivation deflated. I think I need to take a week off to just work on it!
And where do you think you are going to find a week off?!!! Take your time and enjoy the other projects. Everything in due time, right?
Congrats Roni on the blog awards!
Congratulations! That is a big deal!
LOL@ WWRD? I ask myself that daily!
OMG in clicking on your sites above I checked out Lynn’s Weigh…well come to find out that she’s a local gal!!! I probably have seen her when I worked in Clarion!!! What a small world :)
WWRD is something I ask myself all the time! Annnnd, we had the same childhood crushes! How funny. John Cusack still makes me giddy.
Congrats on the awards! You deserve it with all your hard work!
I adore Thursday Thoughts…how about a Sensational Sunday post this week? I could use the motivation!
great post, you introduced me to some new blogs! I totally get overwhelmed by my reader, and I also feel like I miss out on any blogs not on it! Anyways, I thought I would share this random story with you. Every Sunday, I put on your ask roni video and clean my room. That way I can do two things at once. So for about three weeks my room has looked like the victim of at least one natural disaster, and all of the sudden I realized, I haven’t been listening to roni videos, no wonder my room is a mess!
Hey Roni — Thanks for the shout-out for my blog in your post today. :-D
Wow, congrats on the awards – that’s awesome! You have a great blog (s). The WWRD is funny – I find myself thinking the same thing!
LMFAO…..again and again everytime I think of WWRD…..
Somethings just make you laugh…and that did.
Thanks
Congrats on the awards, you really deserve the recognition! Thanks for all the great blog links. I’m alsways looking for inspiring blogs.
Just so you know, the link for the homemade sauce brings you to the momentum plan post. I was able to find the recipe on green lite bites, and it looks so good. Definitely something to try on a cold winter day.
Goodness…you are so busy I don’t know how you find time to breathe.
Feeling the same way! So many things to read, and write about. I find it motivating to read other blogs and I’m going to add some of those diet books to my huge pile on my nightstand.
Congrats on the award. After looking at the winner for diet blog I have to say you should have won, you give so many people so much valuable info on a realistic way to good health/healthy weight! The other blog’s description (no I didn’t bother to look at it) sounded like more of a commentary on trying out various diets, the thing that we all really need to avoid, trying fads etc. Just my opinion ;).
Okay… I am SO with you on the blog thing. I just started my own weight loss blog a few months ago & now I’m reading weight loss blog after blog after blog… My husband thinks he’s lost his wife or I’ve lost my mind. There are SO MANY BLOGS out there & SO MUCH INFORMATION. And now I’ve found your blog… although you have some great stuff in here!
Thanks for the links & snippets~ good info!!!
