One thing I have learned over the years, is that there is ALWAYS going to be a day like that, or a few days. I sometimes think people who are of normal weight (i.e. no food issues) are automatically on Weight Watchers, they just don't know it. I have been studying the habits of thin people in my office (even though they are younger than me) and one thing I have noticed is that if I go out to lunch with them and they get something not so heathy, I will say, what are your plans for dinner? And they may say, I will have a small dinner because of my lunch. OR, I ask them how do they stay away from the food table at work, and they say, its worth it more to stay in control, because I'm going out after work. OR if I am at a family party and there is cake, and I see someone walk away, I say "why did you walk away from that cake?" and they will say "because I am full, or I ate too much already, or I wanted a drink instead." Its people like us Roni, who once we go off the wagon, we think how do I get back on? I think that recognizing it, and going back to basics is the best thing to do! Happy New Year!!

You feel like crap because you ate like crap. Yet you want to continue to eat crap because you already ate the crap. HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE??

We should all print that and keep in case of emergencies!

Happy new year.

Note to Donna too :) I almost made it through the holiday season without a full out binge but didn't--just lost it over the weekend. But I remembered a quote that Roni posted some time ago--something about the journey being about persistance rather than perfection. So I just got right back to my normal eating and workout routine and even though the scale was up I felt so much happier that I gave myself a break, moved on and got right back on that proverbial horse!

The same thing happened to me on Christmas Day - I ate at least triple my points. Can you say 2 slices of French Silk Pie at about 20 points each? And I was so close to making my goal.

Bravo to you for getting your mind on the right track. I too was ready to say - blow it til 2009, but that pending goal was a huge motivator. I weighed in on Tues and still had a loss and am now .6 lbs from making goal. I think that one day of bingeing jump started me back onto the right track.

Use this as a spring board to refocus yourself. Now is the time of renewing - you know what to do...do it with a fresh new perspective. I love the china dish analogy. Just because one dish is shattered doesn't mean you'd throw out the entire set! Your adage is so true - feeling like crap b/c you ate like crap. I'm keeping that one for my own arsenal. We all need a poke in the eye every now and then!

Good for you to snapping out of it and being firm with yourself (if you needed it)! It seems like you were beating yourself up a bit, but I'm sure you know yourself well enough to know you needed that kind of kick. We've all been there. I myself used a Roni strategy last night -- when the kitchen was calling last night, and I knew I wasn't hungry, I put myself to bed before things got ugly! That is a really excellent strategy I stole from you recently -- how tired you are really effects how well you eat, so I think it is great that I both nip a snacking mood in the bud and simultaneously give myself something I need for a better tomorrow (well, today now). Even if I am not tired, it works to simply get in the bed and check email or read a magazine (once tucked into the cozy covers, I am not getting back out to snack!).

Holiday slip ups WILL happen. It's so unavoidable, but at least you're working out and working it off. Hopefully the food was delish :-)
