I just wanted to comment on your marathon aspirations. I have run 2 marathons (and 2 half marathons) and I too was nervous on my first one. I kept thinking, even after all my training, what if I cannot finish, what if I hit "the wall" at 24 miles and cannot do anymore. So many what ifs and not a one came true. You can totally do it, if you want to you can do anything, but you have to want it. A marathon is about 90% mental and 10% physical, if you put your mind to it, your body will follow (assuming you train correctly and if you follow Hal Higdon's training for a novice you will be GOLDEN!). Doing a half marathon first is a great idea. I did a half marathon about 5 months before my marathon and felt is was great mental preparation. YOU CAN DO IT! I know you will, you definitely have the right attitude.

A little bit about myself. I have been a silent observer of your website for about a year and a half, through all the crashes and remodelling (I think you have an awesome site BTW, you inspire me). Also, I am the high school friend of the Maureen that posted a comment (struggling with bulimia) about your video last week.

P.S. Chicago is a great marathon, nice a flat with LOTS of people throughout the race. Chicago is a beautiful city too, which is an added bonus. The Philly marathon is great as well, about 1/3 as big as Chicago (people wise).

Ronnie

I ran my first marathon this summer. Let me say that if you are commited, willing to put in the time, follow the program (I used the Higdon program) and don't get injured, you can finish the marathon. Good luck. I hope to do one again some time when I have the time to devote to it.

Roni, I've run 2 marathons and a 1/2 marathon in the last 3 years. When I first signed up for the marathon, I had never run more than a 10k. (6.2 miles). Was I scared? Yes! I trained with Team in Training and looking around at everyone, I wondered, what the hell am I doing here? I am NOT a fast runner!! I was frequently the last one in at all the training runs. But I didn't care! I was doing it! It took me 6.5 hrs. to finish them, pretty much walking the last 6 miles, I thought out of a field of 40,000 I was surely last. BUT, when I got the race results, I found out 1,500 people finished behind me PLUS 8,000 didn't even show up! I loved it, I felt a great sense of accomplishment, and I KNOW you can do it! I should say that I ran both marathons at my heaviest, so since you are at goal, it will be easier for you. I never would have done it if my husband didn't give me the challenge (he's run 4 marathon, and is training for his 5th in January at the Rock in Roll in Phoenix). And, I trained while working full time and I have 3 kids. You will not regret it Roni! You can do it!!

I'm with ya....I started working for WW last month....I was a little afraid to start because it is for a meeting that I attended, but the members know me and we really have a connection. I love sharing celebrations....and it is EVEN MORE WONDERFUL to do it as a receptionist that tells them they made a special goal they have been working for. And a couple of months ago I was debating about whether or not to do it!!! ;)

It's so weird how we hide behind our big fat body image, whether we're over weight or not. We're never good enough you know. And then how amazed we are when we "do" something and its not as bad as we thought. You'd think wed learn. I absolutely LOVE that quote! I might just steal it and make it part of my email signature @ work. Thx!

I've been entertaining the idea for awhile now about running a marathon next year, but I'm just plain scared for all the reasons you listed.

I'm going to do it. We have the #1 voted Urban Marathon in the country, why not at least TRY?

Thanks Roni :) And if you're looking for a race next year and want to head out to Minneapolis you're more than welcome!
