My 8 Week Fitness Challenge – Week 8
October 22, 2008
My 8 week fitness challenge is over. I have to admit I’m a little disappointed. Not in my performance, per say, but with the, well, you guys know, life happens. The last 2 weeks I haven’t been able to workout as much as I wanted, my friend (the trainer) moved, I joined a new gym and I’m just trying to find a new groove.
Anyway, here’s the results and some thoughts.
| Week 1 | Week 8 | My Thoughts | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Height | 5′ 9” | 5′ 9” | well, I expected no change here. ;~P |
| Weight | 151 | 150 | honestly… whatever, the scale at the gym is crap |
| BMI | 22.3 | 22.1 | pretty much the same. |
| Body Fat % | 23.6 | 21.4 | Interesting but the body fat % tool has a margin of error. I don’t doubt I built some muscle though |
| Arm | 12in | 10.5in | Hmmmm I would like to believe this but a different person measured. I just don’t think I can lose an inch and half in my arms. They are mostly skin and muscle |
| Belly | 30.25in | 30in | The same |
| Hips | 38.25in | 38in | The same |
| Thigh | 19.5in | 20 | Ummm ok??? again I’m thinking margin of error because of different trainer |
| Flexibility Test | 32cm | 31cm | I have NO idea. I’m just not good at the stretch test. I mean, I can touch my toes! |
| Pushups (1 min) | 23 | 30 | I really thought I’d be able to do more, but I’m happy with 30. I really need to start the 100 push up program again. |
| Crunches (2 min) | 41 | 33 | Ok, I’m a little upset about this. The trainer screwed up and had us only going for 1 instead of 2 minutes. I mean, I can just do the test again myself. It’s not that big of a deal. I may try again tomorrow, I’m thinking I can do about 50. |
| .7 mile run (hilly) | 6:30 | 5:41 | ok, this is what I’m most proud of. I ran my butt off! I really wanted to do it in under 6 minutes, that’s all I wanted to do. I almost died at the end but I totally demolished my goal! |
So, overall I’m pretty happy. I’m real excited I have some baseline stats. Maybe I’ll test myself in a few weeks after I start a new workout schedule.
Ahhh new workout schedule. Did I tell you I joined a new gym? I think I did. Anyway, I have to come up with a new schedule for myself. I think it’s especially important because I work mostly from home. I feel like I have no structure to my day.
So I’m going to ponder that and get going. I had a weird food day. I just wasn’t that hungry, of course NOW I am! :~)
| Food | Units |
|---|---|
| 3 french toast with a bit of syrup | 6 |
| leftover Quick Garlic Pasta with Chicken & Broccoli | 6 |
| a few sour patch kids | 2 |
| Chuck E. Cheese trip! Individual pizza and salad bar split with the toddler (estimate) | 9 |
| something?? I’m thinking some laughing cow cheese and crackers. | 3 |
| Total: | 26 |

Hey Roni- If your new gym offers ANY Les Mills programs, JUMP ON THEM. They are a highly effective group of PWERFUL exercise classes that REALLY burn calories and create incredible strength and endurance. Sometimes joining a new gym can shake things up, but many times for the better.

Hi Roni- I have been reading your blog for a few weeks now, You have come such a long way, congratulations! Your blog is such a great resource to me and so many other people, you have great recipes, recommendations and countless other things here!
Starting something new is not always easy (as you know), it’s hard to get into a new routine. You have accomplished so much already so this will come too. Keep up the amazing job!

It’s great to have a goal and then achieve it! I think that you should change the word same on those two measurements where you lost .25inch! They are NOT the same they are a 1/4 inch smaller….HELLO!
;)
Being able to do 30 push ups, on the floor? Awesome!
Inspiration, you are!

don’t be surprised if your thigh and arm measurements go UP - sometimes they are leaner and more muscle-y, but the number actually goes UP.

I measure at home so I know it’s accurate. Hopefully you can have the same person each time now. I think keeping tabs on progress is great motivation. I would love to have your hips someday!!! Mine are 45 in but they started at 58 6 months ago!

Alessandra - Thanks for catching that! it’s week 8!

Natalia Burleson - I only said the same because it was a different person measuring me. Honestly, I don’t “trust” the measurements because they were so close. But you’re right. I should own that! :~)

Wow, Ronnie = love the run stat!
You are doing great - at this point you are maintaining, and I think that’s just as hard as losing the initial weight!
Give yourself a big pat on the back - you deserve it!

I think your stats are great!!! And thinking even from last year to this year….it’s amazing!!! I know it is hard working from home. The hardest thing for me (since I do three separate jobs from home) plus just all the home stuff was finding a schedule that would work. It helped after four years now I have a great one lol!! But now the thing that annoys me is that people say “oh, I bet it’s so easy working from home” I think it is good if you can, but honestly I think it is more difficult.

Great job on the running. That’s an awesome improvement! Funny thing about the measurements. I actually measured myself recently and had actually GAINED half an inch around tummy (after losing almost 10 lbs). It must be that I was a little inaccurate in measuring (although it’s hard for me to imagine that I was actually that far off - I must have been subconsciously sucking in when I measured the first time.) It’s hard to be perfectly accurate. However, I’d take the quarter inch loss! And great job on the push-ups!

Good for you Roni!
I have also started a workout program. I’m not doing so well in the “eating” department so am testing out some classes at the local gym(s) to see what I like. So far my favorites are the Turbo Kick! and Body Pump. I loved the Turbo Kick instructor I had last night - she was very encouraging for someone like me who is/was the oldest and largest in the class. But, I’m not going to let that discourage me. It was a real kick ass workout!
