Hi Roni,

How frustrating!! One last place to check... If i save down a file that I've say, downloaded online, my pc has this default place it likes to sometimes hide stuff. You know if you absent minded just hit save without checking what folder it might be going to. Here's the thing though - I've made a note of that place and tried to get there drilling down through the My Computer, and it's impossible. The way I've found that hidden folder is to attempt a bogus saving of a file, and hey presto all sorts of attachments from emails and stuff I've viewed in the past have come up sitting there.

Sorry this may not have made sense but give it a go and you may find some hidden treasures. Feel free to email me if you want me to explain it better. Good luck!

I think what happened to you, Biz, is you opened up the attachment to the email and started editing that file. When you open an attachment, a temporary copy is created. When you edit that, it saves it to your windows temp folder, which is not good. It may have been buried there for a while, but certainly would not have shown up in the "original" document.

Roni, have you checked temp folders? Even for something named completely different? If you do a full search for *.* (can't count on the file name) during that time period, across the entire drive, with as much "don't hide hidden files" stuff, you might come up with something.

Check out Charlie Hillss last blog post..Dear Subway

So sorry that happened Roni! But I've been there too!

I was editing this huge book for a client as a side project. I wanted to impress him with how quickly I could turn things around for him.

So I spent about 6 hours, on a Sunday mind you, and got the first round of edits complete in order to email them the next day.

I shut down the computer, and then in the morning got set to email it and the ONLY THING THERE WAS HIS ORIGINAL DOCUMENT! OMG, I definitely cried over that one!

Even my computer guru husband couldn't find it! I was like WTF? Where could 6 hours of work gone!

Hang in there though - its Friday - make some pizza, you'll feel better!

Check out Bizs last blog post..Happy Friday and Happy Birthday!

If you were using Word, go to the pulldown under the File menu and see if you see it listed at the bottom where it lists recently worked on/saved files. If it's not there, it might not have gotten saved. I've done similar things where I worked on something, got distracted, closed out and forgot to save (but thought I had...so annoying!). Like others said, check your trash folder!

Also, from what we talked about at the audition, check out Createspace...I ran the numbers and I'm probably going to move my book from Lulu to Createspace because I can charge the same as before Lulu jacked up the prices.

p.s. Don't know if you noticed, but they posted your Food Network audition on the NFNS page on the site where people can post their auditions so I watched it - cute!

Man, its hard for me to 'get over it' when that kind of thing happens! I got no advice for you cause I know you know computers 100X better than I do. But I have confidence in you that you will be able to do the same or even better. Still... ooooh, this kind of thing REALLY gets to me.

Oh, Roni, I know how you feel. In my senior year of college, I lost my honors thesis when my hard drive crashed. I had over half of it written, and because I hadn't backed up my hard drive, it was gone, along with all my family photos and music. It sucks, but it's something you can work from. And who knows, maybe in rewriting you'll come up with something even better!!

Nooooo!

That sucks!

It can't be! Why would you trash it? I assume you did tons of searches on your computer, not just looking around -- maybe it's buried in a folder? I do that all the time...
