3 Steps to a Healthier YOU! - A Series
October 6, 2008

A few months ago I mentioned I was working on a series of posts that outlined my progression during weight loss. I wanted to really take a hard look at how I did it. How did I finally get control of my eating and find success.
The series might surprise you. It’s not a "here’s what I ate" and "here’s how I worked out" it’s more about how I changed my thinking and my habits. I’ve been really taking a hard look at myself and the difference between the old me and the new me. The funny thing, I only came up with three things. Three things that changed my whole approach to "dieting" and really made me the healthier person I am today.
I’ll be posting this series throughout the week. I hope to get some good conversations going and to change some peoples minds on how they look at themselves and approach dieting.
Stay tuned!
The steps are being posted….

Look forward to reading it! I’ve just posted on what I’m trying to change between my ears, and how that affects the rest.

I agree, you gotta improve your mind before you attempt to improve your body. I just wish I hadn’t learned that the hard way.

I think it took age for me to finally get to that point, where I got my head on straight. In my younger years, it was always about getting skinny to look a certain way so I could “get a boyfriend…and ultimately a husband”. I finally got to the age where I just wanted to feel better, and I didn’t care about finding a man any more, in other words, it’s been all about health and I’ve never been so successful as I have this time…and hopefully the LAST time, that I will ever need to lose weight. Thank God!

I think it’ll be a good way to show everyone an approach that actually worked. We can all make our own analyses about what we’re doing and whether we are willing to change or make work for us individually. It should be interesting as a conversation starter. I can’t wait!

I am excited to hear how you changed your brain!! I have tried, tried, tried again and again. I know what to do, I know how to do it, but my mind/thought/emotions get in my way. I am very eager to hear what you have to say. <3
P.S. I made the pumpkin/cake mix muffins this weekend….SO FREAKING GOOD!!!! I didn’t ice them and I didn’t miss it! :0)

You caused me to start thinking of how I lost the weight….and after a year and a half has gone by, I find myself in this strange habit that I didn’t even realize I had. I have made a habit of my groceries I buy, a habit of working out, a habit of ordering low fat and calorie foods when we eat out, a habit of feeling guilty when I eat bad……and all in all… it works for me. I hopped on the scale the other day after walking by it for WEEKS…..(scared)…..and I was fine! Within a five pound range of my goal weight. It is a habit that I keep feeding with things like your website, WW meetings ( not often), surrounding myself with activities and friends who are supportive and most of all I have taken time for myself that I never used to. Yeh me!

I would actually like to see how you ate while losing, or old journals. It would be nice since you are maintaining right now.

I agree with Rebekah. I keep “trying” to change. (Insert Yoda here saying, “There is no try. There is only do.”) =) I want to be thin and healthy, to feel comfortable in my skin, but have lost my focus. Can you just come visit and hold my hand while I get started?
Thanks for keeping it real Roni! Love, love, LOVE your websites and your insights.

I am struggling with getting it right…getting to the point where I am more disciplined! Sometimes I am, others I am not. I am starting to see what the triggers are…frustration, work pressures, home life (when it’s not good)…what I haven’t figured out is how not to let that derail my good efforts. I’ve gotten to that place where I don’t beat myself up over it, I just need to avoid the derailing!!
I look forward to reading more about your journey, and how you re-trained your brain!
