This weekend’s quote is from Henry David Thoreau

Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it.

I LOVE this! Not because I was open enough to hear and learn from it but rather because it describes how I did find success. Hind site is always 20/20.

Let me briefly explain.

As I describe in my story, I wanted to be thin for a long time but it wasn’t until I became inspired by my new born son to get healthy. It took that little bundle of joy to change my perspective.

I guess you can say I became too busy to be skinny. It just wasn’t a focus anymore. I was more concerned with being a good example for him, finding active things for my family to do and figuring out how to get us to eat healthier. Not to mention I was just busy with a new born on my hands and a job to return to!

When I stopped focusing on being skinny, I started to focus on being healthy and then, to my surprise, I actually found “skinniness”. I guess that sums up my new tag line pretty well….

One Mom’s Journey from Fat to Skinny to Healthy.

Great point!! It seems like sometimes we waste so much time just thinking about losing weight and becoming skinny that if we used that time to DO something about it we would get there. Thanks for always putting things in perspective. By the way, I’m giving away 2 subscription to Weigth Watchers as part of their Lose For Good Campaign and would love a little shout out if you could. Great point! I have found better success this time around because my goal is good health and not necessarily a bikini-ready body. I want to be healthy and energetic for my 4 kiddos. They take all I have!

    Hey Roni,

I’m going to be kind of off topic to respond here, but not really. I just wanted to let you know that I just ran my VERY FIRST half marathon today and my time was just UNDER 2 hours. AND…I live in St. Louis and I ran during the hurricane IKE storm! It was bloody miserable, but I did it!

I successfully and quite accidentally became a runner this year. I’m 46 years old, have 4 teenage children and have NEVER run in my life. I’ve struggled with weight off and on since having kids, and really was not successful at keeping the weight off until… I became healthy! The reason I came healthy??? I didn’t like the path my oldest son was headed down — the lazy, junk food path. So my husband & I decided we’d better start leading by example.

We’ve been working out for several years, but I just kind of eased into running this year and decided to try this marathon a few months ago. It really just kind of snuck up on me. I don’t know how it happened.

But I will tell you that crossing that finish line today in the weather from hell was one of the biggest rushes I’ve ever had in my entire life!

If I can do it ANYONE can do it!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Anne

    Ohh…they look reaaaally good.

I am now very glad I live on the West Coast haha!

My plan is to be really healthy and fit until I’m like 90. Then, I’m ordering a 4-lb box of See’s Candy (do you guys have that on the East Coast?) and going to town. I’ll be sure to order several *boxes* of Berger’s, too, ’cause they look AMAZING. I definitely *couldn’t* just eat one!
