Thursday Thoughts

If you haven’t noticed around here, I like features. You know, like, the Question of the Week, Weekend Quotes and my Ask Roni Sessions. I like them because they give me context in which to blog and you something to (hopefully) look forward to. Sometimes I feel like I run my own electronic magazine of sorts. Except I don’t have an editor so you’re stuck with all my typos. (Yes I know they are there. I also know I confuse then and than and overall my grammar is horrible. I got it.) :~p
Anyway, I’m getting away form the point of my new Thursday Thoughts feature. Thursdays I plan on linking to things I collected all week around the interweb (I love that word). These things may be other blogs posts, articles, news, games, whatever. They are just random thoughts. Hence the whole Thursday Thoughts concept.
Now I realize the graphic doesn’t make much sense as this is my first Thursday Thoughts post but give it time, it will. ;~) I also like branding features with images, although this is my first egocentric brand. I have to admit, I kind of like it. ;~P
Ok, I’m blubbering again, on to this Thursday’s Thoughts…
- Carmen posted a great link on my Aldi Shopping List post. Aldimeals.com has a neat recipe feature that lets you plan meals and print shopping lists. If you shop at Aldi’s it’s a must see!
- My question of the week post has drummed up many feelings and emotions for some of us, myself included. I wanted to point out Brainne response on her blog because I think I tend to focus on negative experiences while growing up and Brainne’s was positive. Her letter made me smile and I like how she analyzed where her weight issues come from. That was the point of this weeks question.
- I thought this quick slide show on MSN had some good tips. They could be considered old news but I think it’s important to be reminded sometimes. Plus I liked all the pretty pictures. ;~P
- Even though I like Panera, THIS is why I’m choosing to eat home more and more. You just don’t know what useless (potentially dangerous) crap they put in your food.
- Oh and apparently I’m not the only one hoping on the Boot Camp bandwagon. This article talks about the back to basics trend happening to workouts.
- On the food front, I confessed my instant brown rice dependence on GreenLiteBites and I’m in the process of experimenting with a whole grain, low fat blueberry “crumb” cake. My first attempt came out as a “not bad” but I want a few more tries at it before sharing it with you guys.
- Other news… I’m moving along on the cookbook AND my friend, I’m just going to call him “The Designer” from now on (he is far better then I) is helping me out on the T-shirt front! I hope to be offering some designs in the near future.
- Technical news… I’m having problems getting email AGAIN! So if you posted a comment or a question in the last 3 days I may not have gotten it. I’m doing my best on the comments but there is no way for me to retrieve lost Ask Roni questions. I’ll let you know when the problem is resolved. Sorry!
That’s it. What do you think? Should I continue Thursday Thoughts next Thursday? Lose the graphic? Stop thinking all together?

What's Cooking in my kitchen?

Finally my first Farro idea! I have to say, I love this stuff! It's chewy and yummy and, well, fun! I tossed it with what I could find in my pantry and it made a wonderfully satisfying lunch. Filling but not heavy, tasty and quite nutrient dense. According to NutritionData.com this [...] -
I've seen it mentioned in a few of my clean eating and healthy cook books but honestly, I never even thought of Farro as an option for me. I refuse to shop at specialty stores and I try to use only common products that I can keep in stock and purchase from a typical grocery [...] -
I've never had a tuna melt. Is that weird? I guess that's what happens when you grow up not liking mayonnaise. I never ate tuna salad or egg salad or chicken salad. Honestly, they always kind of grossed me out. Then I realized.. hey.. why does tuna salad have [...] -
I have no idea where this idea came from. I was hungry. It was lunch. I had Brussels Sprouts. That was all the catalyst I needed.:) I decided to use a slice of real bacon to add flavor and little fat that would help sauté the sprouts. I'm trying [...] -
WOW was this good. I mean seriously good. It's not vegetarian so don't start throwing stones. I'm calling it a Garden Vegetable Burger because I use the new Laughing Cow Smooth Sensations Garden Vegetable Cream Cheese Spread. It was this recipe on Allrecipes.com that inspired [...] -
I drink water 99.9% of the time but every so often it just doesn't cut it. I want something else. Something more. Something slightly sweet. Today was one of those days. I decided to make a refreshing drink based on the famous Arnold Palmer, half lemonade and half iced [...] -
The other day I made a whole chicken on the grill in pieces. It was delicious! Just a little BBQ sauce and an open flame is all I need to make The Husband happy in the dinner department. I also picked up a few ears of corn from the grocery store. They aren't in season [...] -
Let me explain so you don't think I'm making a chili recipe and just put it on pizza. I'm calling this vegetarian Chili Pizza because chili is what inspired flavors. I think I told you. Little Bean is really into, well, BEANS! We go through a can about every 2 days. Yesterday [...] -
I've confessed my inability to follow recipes here on GreenLiteBites many, many times. I don't know why it's so hard for me. I can barely follow some of my own and I wrote the darn things! I think most of my problem stems from not having all the ingredients listed and, [...] -
Leftover brown rice and leftover sauce meet in this quick lunch idea inspired by my favorite food of all time: Pizza. I swear I can turn anything into a pizza concoction. Have you seen all my pizza ideas? I've used everything from pumpkin to zucchini, polenta to wontons. Nothing is off [...] -
This isn't a recipe just an idea I had to share. I can't believe how good it was! I've never had grilled pineapple. Can you believe it? I just never really had the desire to grill it before. When you love something raw sometimes it doesn't occur to you to cook it. [...] -
I whipped this up for lunch on a whim today because, well, I have a baby who's obsessed with three things… Cheese, Beans, and Avocado. No, really. Look... It's my go to meal for him so I find myself with beans and avocado readily available. [...] -
You know that tradition 7 Layer Mexican Dip? The one with the cream cheese, guacamole, salsa, lettuce, cheese, green onion and olives? Yea. That's the one. Well I had a craving for it the other day. Well, not exactly for it as I can never make anything the way it's suppose [...] -
If you go through the archives of GreenLiteBites I have about 5 total beef recipes. Five. Compare that to the 80+ I have tagged with chicken/turkey there's a clear winner in the meat department on my blog and in my home. I don't have a beef with beef (omg The Husband [...] -
I'm a kitchen sink smoothie maker. Whatever I have on hand goes in the blender and viola! A quick breakfast or a healthy snack. Last year I posted an "Elastic Approach" to how I make smoothies but I still like to share specific combinations that worked really well. This was one [...] -
The other night it was just the kids and I home for dinner and I decided to make what I wanted to make no holds barred. Without The Husband home it's much easier for some reason. Hmmm wonder why? Ok, not here to husband bash.. really.. I'm not! I'm here [...] -
*sigh* I was really hoping to share an awesome turkey burger idea. I had grand plans for my leftover ground turkey. The results was alright but they could have been so much better. I added diced pineapple, red pepper, green pepper, oats and soy sauce to the meat and formed 2 patties. In hindsight I [...] -
I made this on a total whim yesterday having no idea if it would work. To my surprise it did AND the husband actually said he liked it... UNSOLICITED! Here's the story. I had only 4 tilapia fillets defrosted for dinner. I knew it wasn't going to be enough for us [...] -
This is a slight reboot of a recipe I posted last year simply called Sweet Potato and Black Bean Chili. Staying true to my use-what-I-have-on-hand roots I, well, used what I had on hand and made a similar dish with a spicy twist. Topping the result with avocado added a cool creaminess that [...] -
Did you hear? The Laughing Cow recently launched Smooth Sensations a line of 5 cream cheese spreads. There's Classic Cream, Classic Cream Light, Strawberries & Cream, Garden Vegetable and my favorite… Cinnamon. It's a sweet wedge of creamy goodness! Today I decided to use my new favorite flavor [...] -
Confession time, I recorded a 30 minute video making this with both kids (partally) 2 nights ago. I miss videos. I really do but they seem so much more difficult with 2 children. I'm also having technical difficulties with my video recording and audio syncing making it VERY time consuming to edit. [...] -
A couple of years ago I shared a modified version of Sloppy Joe's I made for a party. Everyone loved it but I've been wanting to try to make something similar for the family on a smaller scale and without the pre-made canned Manwich sauce. I don't particularly have any issues [...] -
Yesterday I was dreaming about a salad. Not just any salad, but a chickpea filled, cucumber, and red onion salad with a fun, tangy dressing. Unfortunately, I had no cucumber or red onion. Well, that's a lie. I had a half of cucumber but it was a mushy mess and [...] -
Dinner meals are getting harder and harder for me to share lately. I've gone back to just whipping things up without really measuring anything (this meal was going to be one of those until I realized I still had enough light to take some photos.) I've also instituted a few brainless meal nights [...] -
Three years ago I posted a video called "Makin' Hard Boiled Eggs" where I shared my system for, well... making hard boiled eggs. Genius name, I know. I'm smart like that. Anyway, since then I've gotten tons of feedback and comments thanking me but all the information is locked in a long winded 10 minute [...]

I like the column idea. Random thoughts and links are interesting. And I LOVE the graphic. It’s a great photo of you.

P.S. If you need an editor, I’d love to work with you … if it’s possible from 3,000 miles away. I’m a copy editor/page designer at a newspaper, so that’s what I do.
Check out Arlenes last blog post..Caitlin
Oh — one more thing: Are you going to put a button over in your side rail so we can click to get your podcasts (like the one you had before). I’ve been going to the link in your “I fixed the problem” post … but that’ll disappear off Page 1 soon.

I love the picture….it indeed is a great pic of you….and I’ve always loved the little talking balloons. Yea, sure…keep giving us Thursday Thoughts!
hmmm…was wondering why CommentLuv didn’t work for me….I had “profiles” instead of “profile” in my blog address. Let’s see if this fixes it!
Check out Bonnies last blog post..Carrie Joy
Roni……CommentLuv kinda worked…it gave me a last blog post, but the blog post isn’t correct. My last blog post is “I’m in the 150′s!!!” and this shows “Carrie Joy”, which I don’t think is even one of my blog posts at all.
Check out Bonnies last blog post..Carrie Joy
Love the graphic – such a great picture of you! Definitely keep sharing your random thoughts and words of wisdom :)
I like the idea of putting collected thoughts and ideas in one post like this. I love lists, and this is great! I think you can keep using the photo or yourself, but maybe change what’s in the thought bubble each time, to give us something new each week, something amusing. :)

Hi Roni,
I love your Thursday Thoughts and think it’s a great idea. I am not sure if you can change this, but when you provide links can you do it so it opens another window, so I can still keep your window open? Thanks! Keep up the great work!
I decided to have an “anything day” on the new Back to the Fridge site. It’s Wednesdays and I call it “Leftovers”, though, so far, it hasn’t really ended up what I want it to be. Seems like something comes up every Tuesday night and I end up posting something I didn’t expect. There’s always next week!
I’d say keep it up. (I’d have to say that, since I’m doing it too!)

Oh my! What an unfortunate choice of blog post title I used in conjunction with CommentLuv!

I think this is a fabulous idea! I love your blog specifically for its variety of topics. Thursday Thoughts will be a great addition to an already great blog! Go, girl!

The graphic totally gave me a chuckle! Thanks for linking back to my blog!
Great idea! Keep it coming. I also agree, it would be nice if the links opened in a new window so I don’t have to right click.
I love this idea so much. It kind of reminds me of myself.. how I’m always thinking of all these things I want to do or whatever – and I just think this is an awesome way to round everything up and put it all out there!
p.s. – than is a comparison word, while then is a transition. No need to be confused, lol :P And your grammar is NOT horrible. If it was, your blog wouldn’t be readable. :P
Hoping to see Thursday Thoughts next Thursday!
Keep thinking. It becomes you. :) I’ll second Lauren’s request for links opening in new windows. Thursday thoughts are a great idea!

Hey Roni~
I love it~ the picture and quote bubble are so funny! I genuinely appreciate the random thoughts and info on different things. You are so nice to spend your time inspiring and relating to all of us. I have to say, that you (and your blog) are a big part of my success (keeping the weight off and eating right). I always check your site to see what your talking about each day- so I say, keep Thursday Thoughts for sure! Your input/advice is always so practical, do-able, and made for people like me who need to find a balance. You’re awesome, so keep on keepin on!!

Roni,
Thanks for all the great links, what an awesome idea…. I say keep them coming girl !!!!

Roni – when CommentLuv links me, it’s not getting me, it’s getting another Michelle….she happens to be a personal friend of mine…so it’s kinda funny, but it’s totally not getting me!!

That’s me above…
Check out Michele Ds last blog post..Michelle
Arlene – I’ve had TONS of editor offers, it quit funny. LOL Until I get bigger and actually make money everyone will just have to live with typos! LMAO
Charlie – LOL I thought the Not That Funny was Awfully Funny!
Allison – It’s funny, I KNOW that but when I right it the wrong one always come out and then I miss it on the proof read!
Ok, group responses…
1.) CommentLuv – All my BlogToLose peeps, what seems to be happening is CommentLuv is picking up the latest community post not your post. I’m working on a fix for this. In the mean time if you don’t want the wrong link to show up just uncomment the check box. I will announce when I get it all straightened out.
2.) Links opening up in a new window. That one cracks me up! As a web developer/usability person I’m against opening up new windows. There are a few reasons why but most importantly I don’t want the site I’m visiting to decide for me, I’ rather right click and decide for myself. Does that make sense?? So I’m debating the new window thing. We’ll see! LOL
Roni,
I have only commented a few times, I’m usually a Lurker, but I wanted to let you know how much I truly enjoy your sites. You and a few others have inspired and motivated me to start my own blog. I love all your videos and your discussions on Diet and Fitness. I have been a lurker for a long time, but thought I could share in the fun! I have added your link to my blog. I have shared your link with so many people along the way and your story resonates with so many. I look forward to reading your blogs daily. I call it my Roni fix! LOL
Anyway, sorry for the long comment, but thanks for sharing your journey!

How does the “right click” thing work to decide for ourselves to get a new window rather than losing your site and navigating to the new site we want to look at?
Thanks! I’m kinda computer illiterate…sometimes anyway.
Roni – Not sure how hard the ‘open in another window’ thing is, but I am currently testing an application at work that has a checkbox where the user can decide if they want to open the results in another window……..
That may be an option……
yes you should continue!!

Bonnie – Right click on the link and select “Open in new window”. Let me know if you see it.
Kathy – It’s not hard but your option sounds interesting!
Roni, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this idea. And the graphic is super cute.
I do see it! Thanks Roni! I learned something new today!
I say keep “Thursday Thoughts”!!!
Love the links!
First of all, I absolutely love the banner. Perfect for the day. I always enjoy reading people’s posts that reference things they have read around the blogosphere because then I can meet some new people and find some new perspectives. Thanks for sharing all the links and in case you weren’t sure…KEEP THE GRAPHIC!!

LOVE IT! LOVE THURSDAY THOUGHTS!Regarding the new window thing, I right click and choose to open in a new TAB. That way, it’s not a new window. I guess the whole tab thing depends on what browser you use.
