Great run, Roni! You are right about it being mental. Sure, it's a physical test, but that mental aspect is hard to train for. But you are doing awesome with your training, and you are the type of person who can overcome the mental challenge.

I am doing a 10k tomorrow, and although I've run the distance before (not many times, probably around 10 or so), it's my first actual race of that distance. So in addition to drinking lots of water today, and making sure to eat the right foods, I'm mentally prepping myself and repeating the positive thoughts (you can do this, you've done it before, it's not about winning, you have a strong healthy body, etc. etc).

You may want to check out Runner's Lounge as they have a lot of good resources, plus Tom and Amy's blog has great info, along with the comments. You are going to do awesome in your relay! Keep it up!

My husband and I just completed our first half-marathon this past weekend. I can definitely attest to need of mental endurance as much as physical endurance. I always end up with a crazy amount of adrenalin on race day. If it's a long run, I have to try to harness that adrenalin until the end. And the best thing about starting distance running? Getting to eat power gel! It makes you feel all professional ;)

My friend and I just start a couch to 5K run to be able to run a 5K at the end of October. I was surprised how long I could run without stopping! I am now up to 2 minute run to 3 minute walk. Sweet!

Keep up the great work Roni!

Melissa, I think I get what you're saying, too. I'm at the point where I'm 4 lbs away from being what I weighed at our wedding, and it's making me mentally go back in time 10 years. Beyond that, we're in college/high school territory. :-\

I hear ya on the mental game. That, is wha tI find toughest about running period...whether it's 1 mile or 10. But really it's the best time to reflect and really take in what's going on. I have a very strong analysis of weight loss which I use all the time. I feel that as you lose say 10 lbs it's like re-living your life backwards. So right now i am 173 and I am in the process of working on what was going on and where I was mentally and physically when I went from 170 -180 lbs, It's kind of like unrolling your life like a carpet and fixing what was broken. Running helps me do that, well forces me to do that. How many times have you cried while running???
