iTunes and My First 5 Mile Run!
September 22, 2008
First the run, only for the pure fact that I’m ecstatic about it and I just ran (no pun intended) out of time last night to tell you all!

WOW! I mean, I signed up for the relay knowing that I’d have to run 6 miles but I never really thought of actually running it and now that I accomplished 5, I KNOW I can do 6. I’m getting much more confident!
Oh! and it’s official, I’m running the first leg of the Marathon. I’m so excited! I’ll get to start with the crowd and just feel that adrenaline rush! I’ve already decided that I’m setting a half marathon goal next year. I’m telling you this running thing is addictive. It’s hard to start but once you do, watch out! I can NOT stress how much I used to HATE it. For me, it’s definitely the feeling I get after a good run that gets me to start in the first place. It’s hard to start and really hard not to stop once you get going but nothing beats the feeling of reaching the goal you set when you started, whether that goal is 1 mile or 5, the feeling of finishing is the best feeling in the world and it makes starting all that much easier.
Ok, enough of my running tangent. :~)
I’m also excited that iTunes FINALLY fixed my feed and search issue. You can now click here to launch iTunes AND search for me (try just Roni-There aren’t that many of us ;~) Also notice I added the link again to the right. I’m going to leave that up for a bit and then put it in rotation with my other ads. So the link will always be available up there.
There *should* be no more issues with the feed. If you left me a review on my old iTunes page please consider reposting it on the new one. I lost all reviews and there is/was no way to recover them. :~(
On the food front this weekend, yesterday was a bit of an overeating fiasco for the pure fact that I let myself get too hungry and then nothing satisfied me all day. Plus the house was chock full of goodies because I went shopping after that run on an empty stomach. (BAD IDEA!) ;~)
I did however go nuts on the recipe front this weekend, trying an oatmeal muffin idea and making my first chili of the season! And this morning the toddler and I had a bit of a produce adventure with a prickly pear.
Tonight it’s all about boot camp and the return of TV! I’ll be watching CSI Miami because I just can’t accept the fact that Horacio (may be) dead. :~)
Oh! One more thing. Are you guys getting any pop up ads on my site? Please let me know if you are because they are NOT suppose to be happening. I do not support pops at all and I will be on BlogHer’s case about it.
I’ll be back with a quick menu tonight. Hope you are having a great day!

Congrats on the 5 miles…once you do 5 anything is possible. Your pace is looking great also…make sure you get some interval training in and that will help you get your pace even faster. You are such an inspiration…keep it up!! I guess maybe since you are going to do some marathon training I should go ahead and give it a thought too….hmmmmm…BTL Marathon Team =)

Do the little ads that swim across your screen and get in the way of clicking links count as pop-ups? (in which case, yes, I just got one on your post about the Arnold’s thin buns)

I’m finding that running is starting to become a part of my life I never thought it would be EVER. Isn’t it funny? I’m just starting out, but I can tell it’s getting easier.
I’ve been getting a box for a survey crawl across my screen about half the time I’m on your site.
BTW, the hubby likes Fringe! We watched the Pilot and Ep 2 last night on hulu. We’re hooked. I, too, hope they keep it on the air.

Roni–That bookmark thing pops up on my screen all the time when I’m moving my mouse around and I happen to hover over it or move over it, and it is annoying. But it’s not so annoying that I don’t come to your sites, because WE LOVE RONI !!!!!!!

I’m glad to see you’re progressing. This only motivates me even more to wake up in the morning and just walk. I for one am in need to lose weight quick and seeing you progress makes me want to push myself even further. Since I’m a bit over weight I’m using this special bike shorts that you can wear under other shorts that have helped me slim down 2 inches. They contain special ingredients woven into the fabric.

Congrats on the run and thanks for the iTunes link!
Since you asked, as I was reading this post, an ad saying “Your opinion counts. Take our survey” just popped up on the screen. It came from the left side and floated across the bottom of the screen, stopping in the middle.

Roni, just an update on the ad that crawls across the screen. I think it’s the same one as Arlene mentioned, from Safecount.net. I hadn’t seen it the first time I commented, so I wanted to give you the site name, in case that would be helpful.

I saw the same one as Arlene today. Don’t suppose Blogher could also find an alternative to the M&M’s Premiums ads, too? ;-)
I know what you mean about running. I never in a gazillion years thought I’d be running again and liking it. It’s nice to have the “me time” (rare with 2 kids) and I like feeling like I’ve started by accomplishing something worthwhile, no matter what else

I’ve tried running before, but have never succeeded at getting anything other than my nose to do it. I can go maybe a quarter mile tops, but even that is pushing it. I just don’t think my muscle were installed properly. So hearing about anyone else running any distance always amazes me.

Congrats on the 5 miles, Roni!! That’s awesome! I’ve been running for about a year now and I’m also totally addicted. I am doing a few 5ks this fall and then a 10k in November (my first)… so I’m a little nervous but also super excited!
I also have a goal of running a half marathon next year, and I’ve decided to do the Disney Princess Half Marathon in March. I think the fact that the course runs through a few parks will distract me enough to make it do-able!! Just thought I’d suggest it for you because it might be a good excuse to also take the toddler to Disney and make a little vaca out of it!
Good luck at the Baltimore race… Can’t wait to hear how you do!

I totally think you will be able to do 1/2 a marathon next year. At this rate you are going to be capable of more than 1/2 of a marathon, I am sure.

Hi Roni,
I’ve never posted to your site before, but I just had to comment on your recent remarks. I, too, am a runner. YES, you are labeled, you are a RUNNER! Some don’t feel they have “earned” the title, but I feel once you fall in love with the sport and run regularly, you can call yourself a runner! I just wanted to share a quick story with you. I started running about two years ago. The only reason I started running (I hated running!), is because one night at the gym the only machine available was a treadmill. I am too hyper and energetic to walk, so I started to jog. I only made it about a mile that first time, but stuck with it. Then I entered my first 5K….then an 8K….then a 10K….then a 15K….then a 10 mile race….then a half marathon….and now, I am just 4 weeks away from my very first full marathon here in Detroit, October 19th. If you stick with it, and continue to challenge yourself, anything distance is possible for you! I wish you well in Baltimore, don’t stop there!!!!

Hi Roni,
My husband and I ran the VA Beach Rock and Roll Half Marathon last month (labor day weekend). It was our first and it was so much fun! They had bands and cheerleading squads every mile, so you’re always getting an adrenaline pump. It’s a very flat course, but it was pretty humid this year. And the folks that run it do a great job. There was a health expo and also the Verizon Music festival (3 days, 4 stages, each with 3 acts per night). We saw Billy Idol, Eddie Money, Cherry Poppin Daddies, and the headliners were the B-52’s. It was a really fun weekend.

I just wanted to say to Valerie that I appreciate her posting that comment. I’m just starting out running, and I feel like it’s a part of my life already, just 4 weeks in. I wish Valerie well in her marathon, and that you’ll do great in your relay. Roni, I think it’s great that you get to run the first leg. You’ll do fine.

Great job on the run, Roni!! It’s so cool to see your progress, and I feel your excitement. Your race is going to be so fun, and it will be a huge adrenaline rush to be doing the first leg. You will do awesome!
Oh, and I’ve been listening to your podcasts at work (since it’s a little more subtle than watching the videos. I love them, so thank you for all that you do!
Aaaand, I’ve been thinking about chili lately, too. I love this time of year, and it wouldn’t be complete without homemade chili, mmmmm.
