I’m a Maintaining Maniac!!

17 Comments 1505 views

I FINALLY made it to a weight watchers meeting!! AND I updated my weight on the side bar AND I finally updated my Weight Progress page!

Why am I so excited?

Well at this point on 2008, even though I didn’t reach my personal weight goal, YET, I am maintaining very nicely. I ‘m within 2lbs of my yearly starting weight.

My plan is to weigh in a bit more regularly for next couple of weeks, especially since I’m taking the Y Fitness challenge. I’m curious how my weight will be affected with all these crazy boot camps!

Besides that, I have NO time to do anything else tonight. I spend most of the week working on a client project and it put me behind on my blogs. :~(

I’ll catch up.

No food journal tonight, I ate great! Just didn’t really record and I just don’t have the energy.

I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

How does the muscle you are gaining through exercise factor into your goal setting (weighs more, right?)? Roni, would you have to lose muscle in order to get to your personal weight goal of 140? Why not have a personal size goal in maintenance?

I figure that I have 12 pounds left to lose through dieting in order to fit in most of the clothes in the back of the closet. My personal goal. Soon I’ll be training for roller derby, building lots of muscle. As long as I can fit in my clothes and feel good, I don’t see why I should be concerned about what the scale says. In fact, I’m assuming that I may gain muscle weight.

3rd time on WW so I obviously haven’t figured out maintenance! I’d love to know how others are approaching maintenance while involved in sport or a healthy lifestyle where muscle is building. Thanks!

Beth – I’m not about losing muscle and if you noticed I’m not really fighting for that goal to hard for the reasons you listed. My scale watching has decreased drastically since getting more fit. I truly think that if you take on weight training seriously the scale can not be taken too seriously. I’m more interested in size, like you said.

My approach… control portions, stay active, face my feelings and keep making the best choices I can day after day! :~)

That’s great Roni! Go you! I’m simultaneously happy for you and jealous of you :)

Heard a song on the radio this morning that I thought you might like because of little Ryan. Go to the following myspace link and it’s the 2nd song over on the right called “Nearly four”. Enjoy! http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=47885980

Good for you for making it to a meeting. Good job on the maintenance. If I recall correctly, you’ve even lost a few pounds in the past few weeks, which is great. I’m sure all the running and boot camp sessions are helping.

Man… I can’t even imagine what it’d be like to maintain. I’m stuck in permadiet mode, that goal weight always just out of reach. (Well, okay, most of the time it’s a lot more than “just” out of reach. In fact, just out of reach would suit me fine right now.)

Your weight sounds perfect for your height :) You are doing super maintaining. Once I get to my goal weight, I am going to try to stay within about a 5-7 lb range in either direction. Chances are, you are much more fit at this weight than when you were 10 lbs thinner at goal since you are exercising now, eating cleaner, and building muscle.

    Roni~
That’s awesome! How reassuring it must be to see that after all this time, you are keeping it together- it shows you that you really are living the healthy lifestyle and it’s become natural. You look great- I am impressed with all the working out! I have lost the weight and am keeping it off, but the working out hasn’t kicked in to gear yet. Lately I am realizing that thin isn’t enough- I want to be toned!! I’ve gotta find something that gets me motivated~

I am so happy that I read this today. I have been trying really hard to get to a certain number by WI tomorrow. I have had so many compliments over the last two weeks about how small I have become…and I look at myself and see a much smaller person…so really do I care what I weight…??? Not so much anymore…thanks Roni.

Congrats on maintaining! That’s great considering all the changes you’ve been through this year (job switching, the new site, surgery, ramping up your exercise, becoming a runner, and I’m sure more that I don’t know of).

I love what you say about your approach: control portions, stay active, face my feelings and keep making the best choices I can day after day!

    Now that is wisdom!

    Roni,
you are truly a maintenance queen!!! Wonderful!!!
i wanted to share something that i’ve just started doing that i find “magical”.

it’s chewing food enough times that it becomes liquified in your mouth before swallowing. it’s so hard to do.. lol.. but the last two meals i’ve had, i’ve tried this and here’s what i found.

    1. it’s a little meditative. it forces you to slow down.
    2. it makes you aware of the texture, tastes..
    3. you get a hundredfold more enjoyment. satisfaction guaranteed lol.
    4. you eat so much slower that it’s easy to eat 20+ mins without overeating.
    5. also you must be sitting at a table with no distractions e.g. tv, reading..etc.. your mind is completely on the meal you’re having.
    6. it feels like you’re respecting your body and blessing it.

also, on another topic. i found a great “food find”. it’s miso soup!!!! if you get the “mellow white” variety and have a bowl of that (which in and of itself has been touted with reducing the chances of getting breast cancer – think japanese women) , it’s really really satisfying. yes, it’s high on salt..but not too bad :)
and the miso soup i’m talking about is not the “dry packet” kind.. i’m talking about the paste in your health food store in the refrigerated area.

this is probably not the place to post all this..but .. oh well. lol
i hope you get to read it
