Meet Irish. Our New Kitten.

Let me set the scene. Every night the husband and I veg on the couch after the toddler goes to bed. I plug in the laptop, grab a pillow, place it on my lap and blog away while watching TV. I’m not kidding, this is EVERY night.
Well last night my “leisure” time got a late start after we returned from picking up the kitten. Irish was one of 4 kittens found abandoned and nursed back to health. She’s 10 weeks old, friendly as hell and completely adorable! She immediately fit in to our little family and (as you can see) made herself quit at home. This is the scene as I lower my laptop screen. I think she likes the heat.
The toddler is more then smitten with his new buddy and I couldn’t be happier. Even though I’m allergic I always liked having cats around. I’m just an animal person.
Anyway, today was, let’s just say, stressful. The toddler stayed home from school. He’s had a bad cough for a week now and he’s just off. No appetite, always tired. I think it’s allergies. He’s been miserable.
I’m signing off early, I need sleep and I have to do my push ups!
P.S. YES we ARE Notre Dame people. You other college football fans understand, I’m sure. :~)

What's Cooking in my kitchen?

I've recently discovered the amazing combination of cheese and dried cherries. I know, it sounds weird, but seriously… good! The other day I smeared some Laughing Cow Light Swiss on Cucumber slices and then topped with a cherry. It was a fun, sweet twist on standard cheese and crackers. Well, cheese [...] -
If I was a good blogger this idea would have been published BEFORE the Super Bowl not during it. I made these today to have a little fun. Surprisingly, The Husband liked them even though he didn't eat more than one. Why? Because he's strange like [...] -
If you read my weight loss blog you know I'm battling a bit of back and neck pain right now. I'm starting to feel a little better but those first few days where rough. Being the head chef of the household, this meant we ordered in a couple of times. I'm [...] -
I'm LOVING Pinterest! I can just scroll all day long looking at food photo after food photo. I wish I had more time to peruse! (I'm RoniNoone there by the way?) The other day I pinned a Portabello Mushroom pizza and was immediately inspired. It's such a simple idea and so light. [...] -
The other day I found myself craving an Orange Julius. Are they as popular as I think they are? Growing up we had an Orange Julius at our local mall. It was always a treat for us at the end of a family shopping trip. Once I was old enough to be [...] -
So I'm a little breakfast nutty at the moment. Little Bean LOVES eggs and I find myself cooking them more and more. This morning I decided to go super light (after last nights chocolate overload) and it was totally satisfying for just over 100 calories! The trick to making [...] -
A few weeks ago I saw Chef Michael Simon make a raw kale salad on The Chew. He sliced beets up real thin and cut the kale into ribbons. Then made a vinaigrette out of red wine vinegar and olive oil. I was immediately intrigued. So far I've only [...] -
I've had this idea for a quick creamy chicken dish for a few days now. It was time to give it a shot. The whole family LOVED it. I'm not joking. The only complaint came from Little Guy who declared his hate of mushrooms yet again BUT he ate everything around them. Fine [...] -
I made this on a total whim yesterday as I had leftover avocado after feeding the baby and leftover Spaghetti squash cooked from the weekend. I roasted the squash to serve with my Chicken tips instead of potatoes and it was AMAZING! Anyway, I'm getting sidetracked. So I'm sitting there staring [...] -
It's post holiday season. You know what that means? Leftover Crescent rolls to experiment with! Every year for Thanksgiving I buy a few canisters. It's the only time I do as I can't be trusted around them. Let's just say I'd beat you in the How-Many-Crescent-Rolls-Can-You-Eat-In-One-Sitting game and leave [...] -
Last week the kids and I tried parsnips for the first time and I've made them 3 times since. I wanted to figure out the best way to roast them. Yeah, that's it, the best way to roast them. You'll buy that right? Right? The truth is, I'm obsessed. I found myself [...] -
Yesterday just felt like a good day to stuff an acorn squash. I had one sitting on my counter for quite some time and it was just begging to be cooked. Since both husband and child don't like it I made a solo meal just for me and, well, it was DELICIOUS! [...] -
I bought a fennel bulb on a whim for the holidays not knowing quite what I would do with it. Of course I forgot about until yesterday when I was rummaging through the fridge trying to figure out what I wanted to make for breakfast. I pulled it out and stared [...] -
I probably should have warned you I was taking a holiday hiatus. I've been soaking up every moment of family time imaginable these last few days, leaving no time for anything else. Not even blogging! Shocking I know. ;) So I return not with a new recipe, per se, but to [...] -
Here's a quick idea for when you find yourself with a spaghetti squash but don't quite know what to do with it. Come on. Admit it. That's happened to you too. It's sure happened to me! I roasted this squash on Sunday... [...] -
I'm not sure if this will be a crowd pleaser, but I liked it and thought I'd share in hopes it inspires you to have some fun with kale. I loved the combination of sweet pear, earthy kale, salty bacon bits and creamy hummus. The only issue with the wrap was [...] -
I'm going on day 2 of counting Weight Watcher Points and I'm already inspired to come up with light, healthy meals for myself. It's like I needed the constraint of points to motivate me. Isn't that weird? Anyway, all morning I was brainstorming what to make for lunch. I wanted something flavorful [...] -
I have a friend who patiently cleaned, peeled and cubed a fresh pumpkin and then selflessly gave me some. Scratch that, a TON! I would have never even thought of doing something like that! But now that I have it in my fridge the ideas are flowing. First, I roasted some [...] -
CHRISTMAS COOKIES! YAY! Sorry. I'm so excited! Little Guy and I had tons of fun making and decorating cookies today. It may just be my favorite part of the holiday season. I loved it when I was a kid and now I get to do it with my own kids. [...] -
This may be my simplest idea yet, but it was so tasty and satisfying I had to share. Plus you guys know I'm a Laughing Cow Community Leader so I'm all about sharing fun ways to use their products. You guys may also know how I feel about pausing and making [...] -
I made this on Thursday. THURSDAY! I hate when I can't post something I've eaten within 24 hours. It just bugs me. Not sure why, it really doesn't matter when I post it, does it? Anyway, I did whip this up to cure a pizza craving and I couldn't be happier. [...] -
It's been awhile since I jazzed up a tilapia fillet. I've breaded them before, coated them in oats, flavored them like one of my favorite drinks and topped them with a fun salsa. It was time to bring nuts into the party. You are going to think I'm crazy but I've [...] -
Fun leftover turkey idea #2! Click here for leftover turkey idea #1. I had a little Gouda leftover from this years Harvest Salad and decided to put all the same flavors from the salad into a quesadilla. I just can't get enough of the smokey gouda/sweet craisin combo. It goes [...] -
It's the day after Thanksgiving and my refrigerator ROCKS! I have leftover turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, roasted Brussels Sprouts, a bunch of veggies and tons of miscellaneous fun stuff. I've already made stock from the bones (like this) and my first batch of soup, Classic Turkey Noodle. I hope to share [...] -
I'm so sorry I've been slacking in the Thanksgiving recipe department. I feel like a bad food blogger. Everyone else is posting festive ideas and here I've gone missing for a few days. Maybe it's because I'm not doing anything special for Turkey day. I finally got my holiday cooking [...]

Oh my goodness, Irish is adorable and that is the cutest picture!!! I love, love, love cats. They are the coolest pets. Congrats on the new addition to your family!
HI Roni.
Irish is too cute. So glad to hear “the toddler” is smitten. We had a cat but he passes on almost three years ago. My dd still remembers him and talks about him often. I would love to get another kitten, but I think we will wait until the baby is a little bit older. Thanks for sharing.
Tanya.
P.S.
WE ARE…
…Penn State!!!!
Them fighting words!
LOL
I used to cheer for PSU, then I met the husband. 13 years later he has me bleeding blue and gold.
Hi Roni,
I have been reading your site for about a year now….love it!!!!!!!! I have never commented before until now….We too are huge ND fans…….MY husband eats, breaths and sleeps Notre Dame!!!!!!!!!!!! Love the cats name…of course!!!!! You have been a huge inspiration to me in my weight lose journey and I thoroughly enjoy you and your website!!!!!!!!!!
LETS GO IRISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awww, so cute! My oldest toddler isn’t so fond of cats, but my little one is obsessed! Our poor cat runs whenever he is around. And all he wants to do is lay his head on her like a pillow. She looks just like a cat we adopted years ago who only had 3 feet and was the sweetest thing you’ve ever seen. Just like yours, she liked to sit under the heat of the desk lamp.
OK, sorry for going on about my cat. Hope the little one is feeling better – it’s terrible you just can’t make it go away, right?
Soooooooooo cute! She looks so cuddly!
your kitten is ADORABLE! aw she looks so innocent =)
Hi Roni,
Your new kitten is very cute. I wish my kitten liked to snuggle while I was on the computer, but instead she only wants my attention when I am cooking in the kitchen. :)
Oh gosh, your new cat’s adorable! Why did you name her Irish?
She looks lovely!!
Cats Rule!
adorable kitty!!!!
Go Dawgs!!!!! Sic’ ‘em!!!
Awww… so cute! I think I need a kitten… my cats are all big and beastly now. Too bad kittens grow up lol
Go Irish :) First game of the season coming up soon!
Inny – Irish is the name of the husbands football team.
Thanks guys, she is a cutie!
Hey Roni,
Irish is so cute, I don’t know if your remember me telling you we have 3
cats, and they are just the best! She will bring so much to your life, I am allergic to cats as well funny enough. Becareful Roni I found it hard to stop at one that is the reason I have 3 LOL.
I hope your boy is feeling better soon, nothing worse then having a sick toddler.
Have a great weekend.
Your Canadian Buddy
Christine :o)
Christine is right, it’s hard to stop at one kitty! I used to have cats when I was little, but hubby is allergic, so we’re dog parents now. We have no kids, so she’s our baby. Anyway, Irish is adorable. I was just realizing yesterday that I never saw any pets in your videos or posts, and now you’ve got this little cutie. She looks like she’s adapted well already.
Have a good weekend!
She is adorable! I think it is great that the toddler now has a pet and is old enough to understand it all. Too cute! Glad to hear she is fitting in well! If you ever need a cat sitter – we are available Our dogs like cats…now how Irish will feel about them… :)
Oh I see…*blush* You have to excuse my college football ignorance…
What a gorgeous pic! Irish obviously become very attached to you in a short time. What a wonderful addition to your family. My kitten is 5 years old now and I miss lap-time.
kay – so I am NOT a cat person… but this one is pretty darned cute! COngrats on the addition to your family – and so happy you chose to “rescue” this little one instead of buying from a store (oh, don’t get me started!).
Your evenings sound a lot like ours. Though for us, it is me who is blogging and hubby is surfing the net (we take turns on the computer) for the latest Guitar Hero World Tour rumors… :)
Have a great long weekend!
Hi Roni,
Love your site. Your new kitty is really cute. I love cats but can’t live with them at all as my allergy to them sets off asthma attacks. I hope your son isn’t allergic to the new kitty, you said he hasn’t been feeling well.
Keep up the awesome work, and thanks for all the great ideas and inspiration!
Irish looks so sweet….she already loves mommy! :) I love the new addition to your family..is this the only pet you have? I’m sure the toddler will love having a pal around. I had cats but had to get rid of them because the dogs didn’t get along with them..and somehow the cats were the ones to go :( dad won that battle..and now that I’m on my own I could have taken them..booo
and my boyfriends cat….was the cutest thing he had his cat from the time he was three until this past january and my bf is now 25 so the cat was his “sibling” growing up since he was an only child and they literally grew up together…and was his pal forever..20 something years together with an animal that is a LONG time….which i’m sure will be the case with Irish and ryan….they will have a lovely bond…
P.S. Go purdue!!! Sorry but thats where I went to college… :)
roni, i love irish!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sooooooooo cuteeeeeeeeeeeee bless her. :) i adore cats soo much… i had one for 7 yrs…:( can’t get a new one now.. too emotional for that and it’s been almost a year.
Ah, so you suspect Ryan has allergies, you are allergic to cats, and you bring one into the house. I can see why that kitty is irresistible, but remember, it will grow up into a full fledged cat. I am allergic to cat dander also, and if I am in a house with one for more than an hour, my eyes get red and swell up and itch and then hurt, and my nose starts running, then it gets all stuffed up. It’s miserable. But hey…..it’s your life….tehehehe.
Another funny…..for a minute, I thought your upside down apple (from your Mac) was a “puddle” that the kitty made…tehehehehe…..isn’t that funny?
Your new kitten is too cute for words!
Thanks for the push ups link. I should do this program! It would help me so much I’m sure!
Have a great long weekend! :)
He is adorable! I love all things Irish so the name is perfect!
what a cutie! So, is Ryan in love with the little furball?
OH MY GOD!!! IRSIH IS SOOOOO CUTE.
Awesome kitty! We have four. We started with a stray who wandered up. Then I had always wanted an orange kitty, so we went looking for one. The orange kitty we found had a sister, and the adoption place didn’t want to separate them, so we took both. Of course we love the sister too, so it wasn’t a sacrifice. Then we went on vacation, and when we first arrived at our hotel, we saw this tiny kitten trying to get in the back door of the hotel. We thought he was lost, so we took him in to see if someone was missing him. It turns out he was a stray and the hotel staff had been feeding him. He was too tiny to put back out, so we kept him in our hotel room for the week fully intending to take him to a no kill shelter when we got home. Of course we fell in love with him, and he is now named Quincy as he is from La Quinta Inn!
I have allergies too. I take Clariton during the day and Benedryl at night. It keeps it under control. Also diligent vacuuming and washing help. I’ve also heard people suggest keeping the kitties out of the bedrooms to help control allergies. Sorry for the long story, but as an English teacher, I don’t know the meaning of short.
That cat is adorable! Congrats on the new addition to your family.
Awwwwwww, Irish is adorable! Her fur is beautiful. I just want to pick her up and cuddle her! I love cats.
O-H-
I-O!!!
Okay, just had to get that in. The kitten is adorable. Have fun with her.
Too cute! My dog always tries to get in my lap when I’m on my laptop–I think it is the heat. We debated naming our dog Georgia, even though she is a poodle and not a bulldog.
I, too, understand the college football mania. UGA’s first game was today and I became a football widow once again. (I’m joking–DH isn’t too bad about it, thank goodness!)
Roni,
I’m really allergic to cats too, and I have three! I give all of my cats baths every two weeks or so, and it helps sooo much! It cuts down on their dander by 75 percent. If you start giving Irish baths now while she’s young, then it will be much easier. All of my cats dont like it, but they put up with it. My allergist says this is a good thing to do, AND he also says that you develop some resistance to your own animals. So maybe Ryan’s symptoms will get a little better over time. I know I’m much sneezier around other people’s animals. :)
I hope this helps! If you need bath advice, shoot me an e-mail. There is a suggested technique! :)
She’s so beautiful. Having her will make all of your lives better.
Crystal
Love the cat! My two kitties are so spoiled. They are 4 years old, brother and sister, grey and white. I am a couch blogger too, btw. I catch up on any blogs that I was not able to read while I was at work. Many times if there is a video I have to wait until I am home. My husband enjoys the videos too. Anytime we see a mango in the grocery store he will mimic Ryan and say “My mango! MY mango!”
Hi there! Newish reader but longtime cat lady here to say congrats on your adorable new family member! And thank you for giving a home to an abandoned kitty!
Awwwwwwwwwwwwww! Sooooooooooo cute!!!- Pam
