First Training Run with a New Mix
August 24, 2008
I FEEL GREAT!
I ran for 35 minutes and honestly, could have run more! I can NOT believe how much I’ve grown to love running. This was the first run of (what I’m calling) my official Baltimore Marathon Relay training.

I think I may go for 40 minutes without waiting for week 2 because really, I was in a zone. I’m a little mad at myself for actually stopping. But it was getting late and it was dark and I was home thanks to the Nike+. I turned around right after it told me I was at the halfway, 17.5 minute mark and viola home in 35 minutes.

Not only did I have a great run but I love my new running mix! Every song get me moving and I found myself lip-syncing more then a few times.
I figured out how to link to the mix itself in iTunes but I also linked each song. I tend to mix a few of my older songs and for some reason iTunes doesn’t always find them in its database even though I know they are there. So I’ll link to each song as well.
| Song | Artist | Length |
|---|---|---|
| Unsung | Helmet | 5:57 |
| Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa | Vampire Weekend | 3:34 |
| Bread & Water | Ryan Bingham | 4:07 |
| Here It Goes Again | Ok Go | 2:59 |
| Anxiety | Black Eyed Peas | 3:38 |
| Cocaine Blues | Johnny Cash | 3:01 |
| These Boots Are Made For Walking | Nancy Sinatra | 2:46 |
| If I’m a Man | Burning Brides | 3:41 |
| My Little Demon | Fleetwood Mac | 3:33 |
| Violet | Hole | 3:24 |
| Gloria | Van Morrison | 2:37 |
| Total Running Time: | 37:12 | |
Other then the run, I made an awesome salad for dinner. It needed to be lite as I splurged a bit at Fuddruckers and on Swedish fish today. Darn those stupid swedish fish!

A girl I worked with years ago loved swedish fish! I had never even heard of them before her. I can see how they would be addictive.
!Glad your run went well. Music really is a great way to keep going! Can you use ipods, etc during the marathon?

You’ll be running 6 miles in no time! When I started running towards reaching the end of my goal weight, I could only run one lap at the local High School track before having to walk the next lap. I thought I’d die. In about two months though, I had worked up to running 6 miles a day every day! I run a ten minute mile, which doesn’t seem very fast…but it works for me. I’ve cut way back now though. I usually run 4-5 days a week for 3 or 4 miles each time, depending on how my body feels. (I had torn my knee 9 months ago.)
I used to drive to a “spot”, park the car, run 30 minutes one direction then run the 30 minutes back! Hehehe! That kept me from getting bored with the same routine! It’s amazing how running with an ipod makes all the difference! I keep changing up my running list. You can also download podcasts at various tempos for running too. They’re not too bad either.
Good luck!

There’s nothing wrong with a little ipod Karaoke. I’m a huge fan :) I love how you created the itunes mix and the fabulous table. Congrats on 35 minutes!!!!!

You go girl! That’s great.
I did want to warn you though. I have found in my own research as a running newbie that you should only increase your distance by six percent per week and no more. I think they call it the rule of six or something. I would google it. Apparently, it is to help prevent injuries…
Happy Running!

Hi Roni-
love your site! just wondering…did you notice your weight number go up a little when you started weight/strength training? i have been working with a trainer for about 10 weeks for an hour per session. he is wonderful and now part of my life-meaning i will go to him 1x per week for the rest of my life-i am always learning soemthing new from him. in the beginning, i lost 5 lbs, but now i’m up that same 5. I have been eating healthy, strength training 2X per week-1 with a trainer and 1 X on my own, and i run 3-4 times per week for 3-almost 4 miles per time. I am actually training for my 1st 5K-you were an inspiration to me on this one… I look and feel thinner and have moved down a size in clothing and have muscle definition-which i never thought i would have…but the darn number is driving me nuts! i read that muscle weighs the same as fat, but has more density and takes up less space. what does this all mean and should i just disregard the scale number. that scale really has a hold on us emotionally.
thanks for all of your support with your wonderful site!

Way to go! I bought the nike+ sportsband because I don’t have the nano. I love it. Makes exercising fun and I love to view my progress. Keep up the good work.

I’m glad you became a runner, Roni. It’s the best feeling in the world (after you get through the pain, that is!)

Hey Roni,
I have been following your site and I am a member of BTL so I have been reading about your running and it’s sounds like you are really getting into it. I love to run and I have some great workouts that I have downloaded that really get me moving…and I love to look back and see how far and how much faster I have gotten since I started running again in Jan…Nike + is the way to go!! Anyway I just wanted to drop a note to say congrats on the running success and tell you thanks for all you do and keep it all up!! Maybe I will drop another challenge online to push myself a little harder…hmmmmm….
