we are all about the toads in this house lately. My 6 yr old hunts for them and then scoops them up :) He always brings them in to show me but only for a sec ;)

Lightning scares me too. I heard that if you hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

Hi, it's Melanie, the one who always calls you a Rockstar :-)

I just wanted to tell you how proud of you and psyched I am for you that you discovered the world of running! We have had similar weight loss journeys, and I also became a runner after losing and maintaining the weight..... It started with 4 mile and 10K races....and the time has flown by and I am now getting ready to run my THIRD marathon! Have you considered doing the full 26.2????

Also, you should try, just once, running at sunrise. Getting out of bed to do it is tough, but once you're out there and moving....you'll love it. No bugs, either :-)

Keep it up, Rockstar!!

Just a question about the Nike I-Pod Tool, it looks AWESOME! I heard that you can program it so that higher paced or faster music kicks in when you are struggling... is that the case?

Great post btw -love when the stars unite ! It sounds like a great day had by all!

first - I love the CLOSER too!!!

second - I was out all hours of the day night with kids and their paper routes - if you are running in anything but the brilliance of the noon sun - you need to be blazing like a christmas tree.

Reflective stuff helps - but is NOT enough!!!

you need to be wearing WHITE and have lights on you. I think there are crossing guard type vests with light on front and back. or there are hats with lights on front and back.

Unless you are always on a sidewalk - this is a must - you have a child/husband that need you in one piece for a long time.

I can not tell you how many bikers/runners we used to NOT see.

And every once in a while there would be one that a newspaper person would comment (at the warehouse) that they were going to get themselves killed and then within a few months the notice would be in the paper. And in EVERY article - the family would comment that the runner/biker was so careful/knowlegeable and they actually were NOT (they were invisible).

Don't you hate the elements and every other factor except *wanting* to? The weather, the terrain, fueling, etc. All factors. And quite annoying, especially when you just wanna GO! :)

PS: I got a gnat in my EYE yesterday on mile 4. It stayed there until 30 minutes later when I finally got it out (TMI, sorry).

Poor gnat.

[I'm so proud of your running! Maybe I'll run into you at a race one of these days lol!]
